Dropbox: best way to sync files you need on many devices

works great with my computer and my phone but from the seperate devices. and it's like pulling teeth to go beyond the camera for my phone.

dropbox.. sharing folders to friends and family....
i just tested it with sharing folders...from the parent folder..
if i have a folder full of pics that are about 1gb.. I share them with a friend's dropbox.. my folder's 1GB will be eat up his account allotment of space.
so then you can not share with someone that does not have enough space..and they can not keep access to that folder.. because it eats up their account.

I'm still eligible for another 500MB (Got the other 4.5GB), but it requires 4GB of video/images and 1GB images/video
I'm not sure how much I have of each, and, I'm not sure I could be bothered.
I also only have one referral left
I took 750mb of video on phone and uploaded it and STILL haven't got that last elusive 500mb of data... I'm still sitting at 26.25GB
You have to use the new automatic upload to add the content to your dropbox to get the extra storage. Either the desktop client or the auto feature on phone

I found this on the dropbox forum, from an official post: "Where are my last 500M of bonus space?

finally got that last 500... not sure when really, just thought to check for it yesterday and it was there... I'm up to 26.75.... it would be a even 27 IF I had facebook to link to it, arrrggghhhhh

and my account is 10gb large.
and they sdcard only has 2gb left.
if i move 5gb of pictures on my PC.. to the pc dropbox folder.
how will my phone react?
i thought the 10gb dropbox cloud account.. would be added to my SDcard.
16gb sdcard + 10gb of dropbox = 26gb of storage.

I just looked and don't see a Drop Box file on my SD card. I believe it relies on the cloud storage for the mobile app and only downloads to your computer.
Exactly. Unless you had previously downloaded it to your phone of course.
Up until recently I'd have said it never deleted files, because I'd usually have to clear out the dropbox folder on my sdcard every now and then.
But recently they changed it so that you can just open files, which I'm guessing are automatically deleted at some point, and you can also export files to anywhere on the sdcard, and those definitely wont be deleted.

- then i tried to do it on my PC. using the new version for PC. copied 1 GB of pics to "Camera Upload". it moved up the space... but no extra space was granted.

My experience has been it downloads then deletes the file on mobile devices.
I already got the space while it was in beta.
To do it from the computer you have to right click a drive and select 'auto-play' and use the dropbox option to automatically search for pics and video.
Once you said auto upload option on in dropbox app it should upload any pics in your DCIM pic folder on phone. Alternatively you can take a number of videos on your phone and let those auto upload to get the free space

No, it is not. If you got the 5 from the beta then you are not getting any additional.... i tried for two days just to be sure. I auto-uploaded 3gb of video plus pics.... No dice

I'll second this. It's not an additional 3gb on top of the beta 5gb. There's lots of misreporting of this out there.
Here's how dropbox intended the bonus to work: if you were a beta tester, you had the ability to earn 5gb total. If you were never a beta tester and you are now just trying this feature, you can only earn a max of 3gb. That means the beta testers can have a net 2gb more than regular users.
Now, if you never earned all 5GB while DB was in beta, you are still eligible to earn up to 5gb, only because you're in their system as a beta tester.
Example: during beta, you earned 1GB. Now that you have the GA version, you can earn 4GB bonus, while normal users are limited to 3GB. If you already earned the max 5GB for beta users, you will earn nothing with this GA version.
