Help Email shows "Loading messages..." when I try to reply to an email

Verizon tech support told me that the latest Samsung update (Dec, 2017) caused the problem. The solution is to delete the Samsung email app and use the app associated with your email address (gmail, yahoo, aol, etc) to read and send your emails.

Go to settings>apps and tap on the menu icon (three dots) in the upper right. Select "show system apps". Then in your app list find WebView (it may be listed alphabetically as "Android System WebView"). Tap on it and select the "uninstall updates option. Then restart your phone. Your issue should be gone after that as long as WebView doesn't update again. You might want to turn off automatic updates in the play store app just to be safe.

I just joined today after a few days of struggling with this issue. Doing what you said fixed this problem on my Samsung Galaxy 4 phone. Thanks so much.

And how do you transfer the Samsung e-mail accounts to Gmail's app?

I am assuming that you are adding an Exchange account, since those seem to be the only type affected.

Open the gmail app, then tap on the hamburger menu (three lines in the upper left corner). You should see your gmail address listed at the top. If you tap on that you'll get a list of all email accounts that are setup (I'm going to guess you'll only have your gmail account listed) plus the options to add or manage accounts. Tap on add. From there you just pick your account type, enter your email and password and it should discover all the right settings for you. If not, you'll need to enter them manually.

Thanks very much! I will follow your advice, hoping the Android System WebView problem will be resolved afterwards.

Thanks! I will try that solution!

Woo hoo. On my S5 I went App manager then Android Web Viewer....then bravely pressed 'Disable'. A pop up asks if you want to uninstall and go back to factory version. I did! Emails now forward and I can reply without drama. :)
Call that relief! I'm glad for you!

Absolute relief. Its only with the help of this Android forum that you can 'lurk' around, learn and find the wisdom needed to get a remedy. Hope Samsung is lurking. Thank you all.

Uninstalling and/or winding back webview updates fixes the email problem, but causes numerous other apps (eg newspaper apps) to fail. The only workaround seems to be to save replies to drafts and send later from there. A real pain up the backside. Installing the outlook app was even worse - a bunch of sent emails just disappeared without trace. So several months on and Samsung have still not come up another a solution. Hmm....

May have just come up with at least a temp fix by searching similar issues. Went to settings- apps- app manager- android system webviewer. Hit disable which rolls it back to an earlier version. Seems to be forwarding or replying now on over ten tests
Thanks for the help jamie.

Jamie, i'm doing exactly as suggested, however uninstalling is taking what seems to be a forever time. How long should it take, and if it never completes, what's the next step?

thank guys, it worked, however i'm curios to know which all apps will be effected by not having android system webviewer?

I have the same problem. It's maddening. I've had the same phone (Samsung Galaxy S5) for about 4 years, and our company's email server is the same for longer than than. All of a sudden, this problem starts this week.

Turning off my WiFi and keeping the network smart switch disabled in settings seems to help. With WiFi off, I don't get the message or the message is only there for a few seconds. This is a strange solution, as I work at different locations depending on the day and never had to turn off WiFi before. I haven't tried it long enough to be sure this is a workaround. If any of you have luck with this, please post.

I'm frankly staggered that after four months they've still not sorted this out. That's enough for this to be the last Samsung phone I buy.

Be aware that rolling back webviewer scrrws up the interface for lots of other apps, for example newspaper and magazine apps.

I doubt Samsung has much interest in updating the stock email client. The real solution is to switch to something else. I use the gmail app for all my mail needs because I like the ability to have a unified inbox, but still keep the accounts separate.
