Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

I don't know exactly what I did to make mine work, but you're welcome to try my steps.

First off, my contacts (in the People app) were already linked to their Facebook profiles in 1.5, and every contact was a "Google" contact (not "Phone" or "Exchange"). So when I upgraded to 2.1, it downloaded all my contacts from Google, and they still had the link intact. What wasn't working was the profile picture automatically showing up. Some people's pictures were there, some weren't, regardless of whether their updates/events were showing up, and the profile pictures seemed to come and go. If that's the same problem you're having, maybe try the steps that I took:

1. In the People app, click menu>View and un-check "Facebook" contacts.
2. Go home, open the Facebook app, and sign out of the Facebook app.
3. Go to Settings>Accounts & sync>Facebook for HTC Sense and click the "Remove account" button. Confirm that you're sure.
4. Go to Settings>Accounts & sync>Google, and un-check the box for "Sync Contacts".
5. Un-check "Sync Friend" in Settings>Accounts & sync>Twitter. (Not sure if it matters, but I'm telling you everything I did.)
6. Visit the People app and make sure all the profile pics from Facebook are gone. If you're still seeing them, maybe you need to re-boot.
7. Go back to Settings>Accounts & sync and click the "Add account" button.
8. Choose "Facebook for HTC Sense" (NOT "Facebook") and go through the steps to set that back up again.
9. Make sure you check the box for "Sync contacts" in your new "Facebook for HTC Sense" sync settings. Click "Sync now" to force a sync. It will seem like it only takes two seconds. (This is a lie; it's still syncing, but it's backpacking on the com.htc.bg process, AKA Google calendar.)
10. Turn off your screen and go somewhere else for at least ten minutes.
11. Check the People app to see if the pictures have started showing up. If not, maybe leave the People app open for a few minutes.
12. When they're synced again, you can go back to Settings>Accounts & sync>Google, and check the box for "Sync Contacts".
13. NEVER sign into the Facebook app. (Once I signed into it last week, the pictures started getting all wonky again, and I had to repeat the process. By not signing into it for the past three or four days, the pictures have stayed intact.)

Hope it works for you!

I tried this, but the problem I'm having is the process com.htc.bg keeps force closing on me. Do you know what I need to do to fix this? This just barely started ever since I flashed the new 2.1 update. It says that the process com.htc.bg has stopped working unexpectedly and then force closes. If you can help me with this I would really appreciate it.

Yeah, I have tried it 3 times now. I'm beginning to think I might just have to deal with it.

Maybe try un-checking every single sync option (google, twitter, facebook, etc.) and then manually sync them one by one? That way at least you can figure out exactly what's causing the error.

When I first got my phone in December (still on 1.5 obviously), it had a huge problem syncing my contacts with Google because it can't handle a multi-line "notes" field in contacts coming over from Google to the phone. I had to edit every single contact on the computer, make sure none of them had multi-line "notes," and then it was able to sync. (Super annoying, and one of the reasons I've said that 2.1 is less buggy for me than 1.5 was.)

I was able to narrow it down by following this advice. FAcebook was the culprit. Is there some other setting I need to tweak to get this to work? Thanks for the help!

For me, it seems like I can either have the Facebook app or Facebook for HTC Sense set up, but not both. As soon as I have both accounts set up, I get weirdness with my contact pictures and awake time.

I will log out of one of them and see what happens. Thanks.

So of course there all the bugs with the HTC more widgets link-problem I have personally noticed and am still waiting to be fixed-and the cities coming up incorrectly-mine is usually right but every so often comes up as "caliente"-but i have noticed a few that are not so widely talked about. When using the flan gallery apk, the 3D picture gallery ported over from the Nexus One, ive had issues going straight to the camera. I haven't seen the landscape lag that everyone is talking about however. I have also had issues with the HandCent SMS. I refuse to use the stock messaging app for lack of customization. I love HandCent but have noticed a small bug. When sending a batch message FC continually pops up.

Overall i love the newest leak. phone runs much smoother, no more FC when using navigation. animated weather looks so much cooler now. love the new UI for the settings and the powerbar widget.
I only have one question. when, if ever, will this version be rooted? ive think i saw someone on here saying that this version may be impossible to root?

what's the difference between Tone Picker and Ringo Lite/Pro?

I tried Tone Picker but don't see the use of it, maybe I'm missing something?
If they do the same thing, I prefer Ringo Lite....

simpliest way ive always done it is to create a ringtone off of a music track. use ringdroid to create it and after save it will give you the option to save as a notification or a ringtone. it also gives the option to set as default or for a specific contact

One bug I've noticed, not sure if it was in the old one, but there are no badge numbers in the notification bars (i.e. with text messages)

yes. on 1.5 ,and possibly the previous version of 2.1 but i havent checked, if you had more than one message it would come up with a number in the message icon. also did the same for notifications. i havent seen any of them since i flashed the newest 2.1 that was released last night

Had 2.1 Leak, and now NEW 2.1 Leak.

Facebook contacts won't show up/sync. This is weird because -MY- personal contact card pops up with the little "f" logo on it and with my default picture. Went to view, see Facebook contacts checked. Went on Facebook on computer, accounts, applications and made sure HTC Sense for Facebook was enabled. My "Live" folder has all my Facebook contacts.

For some f***ing reason though, it won't sync. In Accounts and Settings, it will flash from "Syncing" to "Cancel Sync" a few times, but then stops. I tried just leaving my phone alone with the screen on no-sleep mode overnight with 3g on.

I noticed that Blabber, Dropbox and PhoneFlix all fail to connect to the internet with the new 2.1 rom. yet the links they are trying to access I can bring up in a browser just fine, seems like a permissions thing, but am unsure where to check this.

My guess is since the 2.1 update was not an OTA Rom sent out by VRZ that there is something missing from the leaked Rom. I suspect all will be good with an official update.

Verizon and HTC people are either following these reports closely -- if this is a legitimate and current ROM ... or laughing and calling us all idiots in case this is an "old" ROM. :p :p

what better way to QA the build then to "leak" it and let all of us do the work for them.
