Eris to v2.x, when?

I thought is saw somewhere, that the ota release date was march 26th. I don't remember where I saw it. Forever optimistic, maybe we will wake up on the morning, and the official ota will be waiting for us. I realize that realistically there is like a 1% chance of it actually happening, but I like the odds if there is a chance. End of the quarter Is next week, and they did say before the end of quarter 1. 1% is better than 0% lol.

Gruss is right no one would even know 2.1 was late if they didn't hang out in these forums. I am grateful I have been following what's happening because I would have never had such sweetness on my phone so soon. 2.1 is running rock solid. This latest leak fixed a host of issues people were having with the first 2.1 leak. I am more than pleased. I think people who didn't surf these forums also wouldn't care much about having 2.1 anyway. I hope for the rest of you that your wait is worth it.

I had a few minutes to kill yesterday, so I went into the VZW store and dutifully asked the manager when the 2.1 OTA would occur. He stared at me for a moment then started into a (literal) song and dance routine, singing "Real soon now. Real soon now." He asked if I wanted to see it again. I said "No thanks."
On another note, as of yesterday afternoon, MOT's facebook was reporting "Though we don't have the new deployment date to share just yet, we do promise we are working to get you updated information and will relay it as soon as possible (etc.)"

Some of those stores must have meetings and discuss issues brought up by customers, especially the same issues being brought up day-to-day about the same devices.

They then likely discuss what a good, pat response would be. The song and dance must be what they settled on at your store.

At mine it's quite helter-skelter; over time I've heard four entirely different answers to the "have you heard anything about the Eris software update?" My kid got, "what update?" I got, "I heard it was supposed to be in the phones by now." A colleague got, "they're testing it in the Philippines and China until Summer." That response caused me to go back to the store and ask again. I got, "it's already out, keep an eye out for it to go into your phone any time now."

No meetings about it at my store I guess.

Other than the snappier response I'm not sure why everyone is so anxious. I find it hard to use a 1.5 phone but if I wasn't used to the leak I doubt I'd notice. Seriously if your such a power user you need the features of 2.1 then load it. If not kick back relax and hope they perfect it. Seriously if ya'll weren't hanging out in phone forums you wouldn't even know its gonna be late!

I absolutely agree.

It's April 26th already? Wow, I knew I slept well last night, but a whole month?

I really could sleep the month of April away and be okay with it but you got me. So I'm a month behind right now. Gotta fix that watch! :o Sucks for Hero owners but if this is true, at least they were told early Q2 then they may be sticking to it.

this is the official word, at least what they sent to me in an email

New Response From [ Alvin (North America Support (Tech)) ]Hello Sam,

Thank you for taking the time to contact HTC America Technical Support via E-Mail with your inquiry about when the Verizon Wireless DROID ERIS by HTC will receive an update to Android 2.1 (

so now it is within the 1st 6 months of this year, rather than Q1.
On one hand I am about to give in and just download the leaked version. On the other hand I am very glad I didnt yet, because for anyone who does not like it, it looks like you can be stuck with it for a few more months.

(warning....possible dumb question here....)

will the official OTA version, whenever released, override any installed 'leaked' 2.1 version on my phone, and if so, will there be any major surgery required (by me), or will it be a simple process?

thanks.

as long as it has a higher version than what you have installed, it should install with no issues, and since you are going from 2.1 to 2.1, should be pretty smooth, but since none of us have actually been through this yet, no one knows for sure.

yeah, i realize that no one has gone through this yet, but i kinda wondered, considering that people were doing the leaked upgrade anyhow, so they must 'know' something i don't in terms of doing themselves 'permanent' harm, etc. i figured that it must be ok to do the leak upgrade due to it being overridden by the verizon OTA version eventually, etc.

thanks.

Like mentioned already, if it is a different version number, then there should be no problem upgrading to it. On the other hand, if it is the SAME version number, then it will "probably" be the same as the leaked version--including bugs, so you then it wouldn't really matter if you could then get the OTA version.

you can change things in the OS and not nec. change the build number. Doesn't matter, if going from leak v.1 to leak v.2 taught us anything its that even if the OTA doesn't come to us "leakers" we can upgrade to it manually by downloading the file. So all in all no worries mate.

I honestly think that we won't see an OTA update until at least Motorola Droid users get theirs...so seeing how their update is still being delayed...we've got some more waiting to do

FWIW, I'v personally heard a VZW store mgr. say that the ERIS OTA was waitng on the MOT Droid OTA. (But I've never believed him before, so why should I start now?)
