Eris to v2.x, when?

I got a strange text message from number 6200 that had some odd scripting language at least the way it showed up in Handcent, perhaps I should look at it in the default text message program.. I would look now, but I have been using a BBStorm 2 for the last few days on my number.. Verizon must think I'm nuts in the last 3 weeks I have had the Eris, a Palm Pre+ and the BB Storm 2 on my account.

Liked the Pre OS alot but the apps are terrible, the BB OS 5 update didn't change much from the old v4 stuff...Wish they'd use more color..

You may get your wish.

BlackBerry OS 6.0 leaked? -- Engadget

Spoke with Verizon.

No update for Eris.....unable to run 2.1

Offered me one year pricing on any other phone.

I believe they're wrong (they usually are) but take him up on it and get the Incredible!!
If they told me 2.1 was not coming and offered me that deal I would jump on it even though I think they're wrong!

Here's what I don't understand.

How is it possible that every Verizon store has different info?

What kind of major company doesn't tell employees information like this??

If there's still no date set yet...TELL the reps that.

If there's not going to be an update...TELL the reps that.

I just have a hard time believing there's no credible information out yet...

The information changes constantly. They don't tell the reps anything until they have something FIRM.

If you think in terms of only 1 phone, then this seems like it wouldn't be an issue, but Verizon doesn't deal with only 1 phone. They deal with dozens of phones. Trying to keep the reps up to date on each and every phone that they carry, and having the schedule constantly change, would leave you with Reps who all had different information and none of them were right.

However, if you know that they don't tell the reps anything, then you can simply sit back and wait like they do. It might be a little more frustrating, but not as frustrating as hearing 20 different dates for the OTA, and none of them being right.

Good Afternoon, Mister kratzer, this is Liz calling from verizon wireless, Executive Relations. I walked checked up on the Troy terraced update for you and the plan was to really say within the first quarter, but there was some issues with the test software so we wanna make sure that it's good to go and up for standard up to standard, I'm sorry before we release it, so we do not. There's going to be a software update, we just don't have the date, so if something comes up alright. I am gonna be keeping your number and your information so that I can give you a call. Thanks and have a good day.

Here's an idea - Quit Asking Them!
They have 225,000 employee's. It is impossible to get that many people to have a single canned response to a question rephrased 1000 different ways. You'all know there is no date yet, why persist in sending retail employees emails, phone calls and pop ins? It will be here when it's here. Until then why don't you just install the leak?

+1.

I'm going to continue to ask them, mind you, as the months and years go by. But still, I agree with you in spirit.

lol, etc..

Well i was trying to wait for the update for OTA, but it looks like im going to have to cave, but quick question, when the update does come out OTA, is it going to erase all user info, just like the manual leak update? If so then there really is no point in waiting I guess cuz then i'll just update it again, but thats kinda the only reason i was waiting cuz i dont wana wipe my phone and start fresh, but like i said if OTA is going to do that anyway i dont see a reason to wait to be honest?

Impossible to say, but let's just think about it for a sec. The apps are different versions mostly. There must be something way different in 2.1 vs 1.5 for that to be the case. With me so far? So how can such an upgrade leave all user info in place? It just doesn't make sense to me. And then there is the "besides" I go back to. Besides, who wants all the old junk you have accumulated over the past few months? Wipe it and start over. It's good for the brain and will do wonders for your phone.

I spent my whole weekend asking Verizon employees what time it is.
Each one gave me a different answer!
These people really have to get their act together...

going from 1.5 to 2.1 ota will erase all data if it was done in baby steps then maybe you would get to keep all your data but since it such a huge leap be prepared and back up all data

they will be as clueless as you are so they will tell you anything to appease you. the only ones who may have a clue are the devs at verizon, if any wrenches cropped up to throw them for a loop they wont have a timeline for you. this is the same nonsense the root devs face. and to be perfectly clear about it: Until a DEV publishes a date there is no expected date.

Try to take what I'm about to say with no offense; anybody who spends an entire weekend "asking Verizon employees" anything, let alone the date/time of a coming update for one of the devices Verizon sells, might fall into the category of people who "really have to get their act together" in the eyes of some.

You really think they've all been informed and have memorized update details for all 200+ phones? They don't have photographic memories, and the Eris is not popular enough for them to know every detail. I've worked in retail and customer support for software/hardware companies before, so I know how it works. Sometimes you'll get a rep who knows about a specific product, sometimes you won't, but each knows something different from the rest.

Have some patience!

OK so here it is folks, the unequivocal, unarguable, not to be doubted, end all, answer to the question - When Will Eris be updated to 2.1?

Today whilst in the Verizon store picking up my 16 year old daughter's 4th phone in 1 1/2 years. I, after looking around to make sure no one else was listening in, asked my erstwhile salesman, who in this conversation we'll just call Nick (well it was the name on his badge) when we Eris owners could expect to get our, and here's where it got tricky, OTA to 2.1. Nick (may not be his real name) looked around and waited until another rep was out of ear shot, leaned into me and whispered... "we have no idea"

Very Strange, Very Strange indeed.

Maybe I'm wrong - but I thought he was making a Joke about asking different people what time it was and getting a different answer.

Then again OMG maybe you were?

Latest rumor from a store salesperson, who also claimed to be an Eris user, is that the update with begin to roll out April 24th. She claims that she received a text message from Verizon stating this. I'll believe it when I see it, but I just thought I'd pass that along.

Also, the holster clips from Verizon are pretty sturdy and I'm liking mine so far. I picked it up on Saturday. This was my reason for going into the store.

I'll believe it when I see it. But I love my holster clip thingy. Excellent hehehe.

OK --

I should have been more explicit.

"I spent the weekend asking verizon employees WHAT TIME OF DAY IT WAS.
I GOT A DIFFERENT ANSWER EACH TIME I ASKED"

This was an old joke. As the time of day changes constantly, one receives a different answer each time the question is asked, and the asker can't understand why he keeps getting different answers.

I tried to be funny. FAIL.
