Eris to v2.x, when?

I saw a post earlier in this thread that made a lot of sense. They said that the 2.1 update will go out after the Incredible is released. When I had my BB Storm everyone over at CB was raving about when the 5.0 OS would be released. Leaks were everywhere but they had issues. Then the Storm 2 came out and within a day or two the update was pushed to the Storm 1s. The whole 2.1 thing seems fairly similar. :)

I just called Verizon and hassled them for about 3-6 hours about the 2.1 update and they let me in on a little secret. Version 3.0 is secretly being developed for the eris right now so I should just stand pat and get ready for a totally tubular user experience in say the next 18-24 months.

I'm waiting.

Well, the Eris 2.1 OTA starts in about 10 minutes. No time for Hero stuff for several weeks.

:D

Update starts when????

Not sure if serious.

At any rate, I've been running 2.1 Leak v.2 for several weeks. The only problem I have is that I cannot expand the notes field in contacts. It only shows the first 3/4 of the first line and cuts off the rest. I have to "edit" the contact to view the rest of the information. Is this normal, or can everyone else view notes without having to do this?

I had a related problem back in 1.5. When I first got the phone, my Google contacts syncing always failed after the first time. I read somewhere that the phone couldn't handle multiple lines of text in the "Notes" field, so I went into each contact in Gmail and removed any carriage returns from their "Notes," and then it sync'ed correctly. So it doesn't surprise me that it also won't show them correctly.

It kills me because I actually use the notes field for people. For my wife I have gift ideas, etc. For accounts I have with service providers I have account #'s, etc and contacts. I don't have a novel in each contact mind you, but it is a shame I can't view them without having to fudge around and "edit" the contact.

Should I try deleting my contacts and resyncing?

No, if your sync is actually working, you should probably leave it alone. You might want to verify, in fact, whether changes to contacts on your phone will show up in Gmail and vice-versa. It's possible they fixed whatever bug I was having back in December, but it might be a good idea to check.

Perhaps there's another app that can help you view your notes more easily, like some kind of "People" replacement. Maybe search the market for a "phone book" or "contacts" app?

All I have to say is that those of you who have nothing better to do with your time than to sit there reading a phone forum several times a day... Oh! Never mind. :o

No guts no glory buddy. And what are doing? Do you have something better to do, obviously not!!!!

You have GOT to be kidding.

What has happened to people in here? "Starts in 10 minutes" is taken seriously now?

People are getting mean about this stuff. Folks, lighten up about the OTA.. especially on each other.

Sorry, but I just registered today. I skipped to the end of this thread to see if there was anything relevant. I came across your post and met it with a truckload of salt.

I didn't have a Joker GIF handy otherwise I would have used it.

Thanks, wamsille.. and welcome to the Eris forums.

I think Eris owners are tensing up over the past several weeks in abject indignation over the lack of real information about the anticipated Over The Air ("sent to your phone") update for the device.

Some were promised that update in a short time as a way to sell the Eris to them; that is the worst tactic by a Verizon rep I've seen posted in here. And, so.. we have angry people.

And.. so, ;) angry people, even those on the same "team" so to speak, will turn on one another and dump their anger in the wrong place, accusing each other of all sorts of near-demonic motives, etc. :D

Hang in there, wamsille. I've seen this same stuff over in the Blackberry forums, a vast place, quite diverse; it is not just an Android/Eris community problem.

I was one of those told that the upgrade was going to happen by year end. I purchased the phone in November. Only reason I am not bitching is because I installed the leak. Both of them. Otherwise I would have probably brought this back to Verizon and gotten the Droid.

Don't know if I'm allowed to do this (I guess the mods can/will delete this if I'm not), but here it is.
Official 2.1 Update: News and Updates - HTC Droid Eris Forum

Says in two weeks, and that the V2 2.1 leak is the official one that will get pushed out. Says that if you have the v2 leak, you will NOT get the OTA. But, still, take it for whatever you want, I just came across it on google today.

There's no way that they will release the second leak as the official OTA. There are way too many bugs that should be fixed before it's official.

I really wouldn't know, I was just spreading the word. I don't know anything about any bugs since I didn't do the leak myself. But if there are a lot, I'd have to agree with you.

Remember that the original software that came with our phones kept the phone awake 100% of the time, among other things. That particular bug was fixed in the December 11 maintenance release (MR1), and the workaround before that was to use a third-party SMS client.

Here's the full list of bugs identified by HTC before the phone's release, and you'll notice some of them indicate they would be fixed on either December 11 (MR1) or January 22 (MR2):

So... it's not beneath them to release software with bugs.

Just more hearsay, amigo.

Those same notions have been posted before, as "official word." But, as usual, no links to HTC rep quotes, let alone Verizon, who will ship the OTA to Eris devices once approved by them.
