Power down your phone and on the restart go to Menu-Settings-About Phone-Battery- What has been using battery- and then look at Cell Stand-by. If it is showing 50% signal loss, then you have it...

Thank You.... yup I got it :/

So there's no fix for this right? But does it actually affect anything? Like, does it actually cause any problems or is it just a little glitch?

I used to think I never had it, 'cause I never saw any issues. Then, I started checking and saw I had it.

Never did anything about it and now I just don't worry about it  (I have never seen any detrimental effects as a result of it (battery, etc)).

Seems more of a perception thing to me, lol.

I can confirm that the 50% without signal bug WAS NOT fixed. Still had it after automatic reboot with the update. Had to do the airplane trick to get rid of it.

Try this.

There is a fix:
1) Go to dialer, put in *#*#4636#*#*
2) Press Phone Information
3) Press Menu, and pick Select Radio Band (ITS NORMAL TO GET A FORCE CLOSE)
4) Go down and change GSM Auto(PRL) to CDMA Auto (PRL)

The reason this is sucking battery is because the phone is connected using CDMA PRL but its set to GSM so its looking for a signal via SIM, which we don't have.

I've seen posts from folks that had the "bug" and already had CDMA Auto (PRL) on their phone (mine did/does).

Yea, you are right, I am upset. I am just fed up with the issues this phone is having. It's embarrising when you go to make a work phone call and the silent call issue rears its ugly head, or you drop the call because the Eris dislikes 3g coverage in LA of all places. I think I did get a bad cs rep, cause I had one guy who was super nice and offered to upgrade me to the INC. I wish I would've accepted that offer. :(

are you rooted or running any of the leaks?

if so answers itself

Sorry, still not getting it. Cell Stand-by shows 56%. That seems OK to me, because I haven't used my phone much at all today. So I guess that's OK? When you say "Showing 50% signal loss", is there a message that says that? Like a separate text box or something?

Thx :)

Yesterday, I was getting the notice to update. I was unable to do so because I was at work and kept telling it that I would install it later.

Well, I went home and tried to install it, and wouldn't get the popup. Figured it was because the battery was low (almost dead, what a surprise). So, I let it charge overnight and expected to see the popup again this morning.

Nope, not a thing - How do I get it back? ):

Go to Settings>About Phone>System updates. I think that it should be there.

Have you attempted to force the update via phone > *#*#checkin#*#* (don't hit the green call button; just wait)?

Perhaps I'll get it while at work again (haha).

Yes, that hidden "user activity detection" app in the device can be a lot of fun for the update managers as they decide precisely at what minute to send the prompt to your phone.

It's not based on where you live, how old you are, your height, how much money you make or how good looking you are.

Maryland no update, There was also no update when I drove through DC as well, And when I got into Virginia no update either.

I am running v18 of 3.1. I am 29 and pretty dang sexy looking, I am not sure if willdogs is smart, but he does seem to be pretty on point here.

I am going to Pennsylvania tomorrow. Maybe when I go up there Verizon will get confused and give it to me. Yippie.

Just checked this as I never have. This is what I see:

Cell standby 66%
Phone Idle 22%
Android System 9%
Display 3%

So I guess I have this issue. Damn, that explains a lot.

Then click on "Cell Standby" and you'll probably see "Time without signal 50%". You can try the clevery named "Airplane Trick" to help with this:

Plug your phone into the charger.

Place the phone into airplane mode.

Allow the phone to sleep (screen goes black).

Unplug phone, and take it out of airplane more.

This would have to be done each time you power cycle your phone.
