The Evo 3D will be released in Europe, so there's a GSM model that can be unlocked and made to work on AT&T here in the states.

yeah, I really like this phone, but not enough to pay 700+. Yikes, I'll wait for the subsidized sprint version.

Besides the fact that GSM won't work on Sprint? What will having the phone here do for you (this is excluding I'm an AT&T or TMO customer)?

The price doesn't really shock me. Wasn't this about the price of the EVO when it launched? Unlocked iPhones sell for that or more, and they sell like hotcakes.

So why the variance of $150-$200? Does that imply there will be two models? Or does it imply they are undecided on the price and it will be either $150 or $200?
Personally I have read more negative feedback regarding phones that run over $200, so I wouldn't be surprised to see this phone at the $200 price tag. $150 would be shocking though.

I've said it a bunch of times on these forums and I have absolutely NO problem saying it again. TIER 1 reps are the absolute LAST ones informed about anything! That said, I can't imagine that the phone would be anymore than the $199 that the EVO cost at launch. Even with the upgraded internals, there's absolutely no reason for Sprint to push the phone's cost past what the competitors are charging (e.g. Motorola Atrix, upcoming Motorola Bionic, HTC Thunderbolt, even iPhone 4 OR 5 etc...).
Given the competition and how late this phone is coming out why do you expect it to be more than $200?
This looks like a decent phone; and there are arguments to favor it over the galaxy 2; but remember the thunderbolt, atrix, bionic and possibly the sensation will be out prior to this phone. We know the atrix is a bomb; and the thunderbolt is basically an evo with lte antennae but the sensation is basically this phone without the 3d gimick and it is thinner (i like thin light phones). Anyways I'm following this phone closely as I've been wanting to upgrade to a data phone for a while and I am currently a 10 yr sprint customer; but this is pushing the envelope time wise for how long I'm willing to wait and sprint seems to have something against thin light phones (i.e, epic instead of captivate/fascinate; evo instead of droid x; ...).

Almost. European GSM lines up better with T-Mo frequencies than AT&T. Voice works but you won't get 3G on AT&T. People who buy unlocked Nokias from Europe all go to T-Mo for this reason.
Somebuddy better at econ and marketing can put the right words to this - but it comes down to value pricing vs. what-the-market-will-bear pricing.
If I look at the iPod Touch with 8 or 32 MB, it retails for $230 or $300. And many claim that's a ripoff being from Apple - but it does sell well and has a lot of features, including wifi and an FFC as well as some HD recording.
Now - add in 2G and 3G radios, GPS and maybe even a 4G radio - and many people think such a device is normal to retail at $600 or more.
I don't.
Not enough silicon, not enough anything to double the price.
So - while I'm like most - happy to only buy on-sale or subsidized - the subsidized prices are not really all that low - given how much we spend on plans over a two-year period or more.
They could retail these puppies a lot less - and sell them subsidized for a lot less - and never lose a dime.
And to address the OP (many thanks for that info btw - and - Welcome to the forums!!) - is it just me, or didn't Sprint and others announce they finally bought a clue and were dropping the rebate nonsense??

I believe there will still be rebates, but they will all be instant; from my understanding they moved the extra $100 or whatever you'd get from a mail in rebate to the instant rebate. If you aren't eligible for the upgrade you have to pay full price though.

I'm amazed so many folks are definite buyers before reviews. Yea I'm interested in the phone but if it turns out ot be a lousy phone (even if it has great processing) then I'll skip it in a heart beat. Mind you HTC has a good reputation of producing decent phones (antennae, noise cancellation, speaker, clarity) so I have high hope but for me it has to be a good phone.
The big negative for this device seems to be form factor (i prefer samsung thin light) and possibly washed out screen in daylight; but I can live with those negatives if the rest of the package is good (good batter life, reception, gps, ...)
