Root Evo 4g root issues

sweintrub

Newbie
I have searched the site high and low but can not seem to find anything specific to the issues I am having. Tried both the August 14 Revolutionary thread and andygu3 posting of October 27. I have read extensively and believe I have the chops to finally root my evo 4g. Trouble is when I download the HTC drivers and attempt to open them I get an error message and can not complete the install. I run windows 7 and do not have HTC sync or any other HTC drivers installed.

While I am certain this is not a new deal I would greatly appreciate any help or direction you may have to offer.

Thanks in advance.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i moved you to the rooting section.

what is the error message you get when you try and install the driver? have you tried and re-download the driver?

when you look in the device manager of win 7 (while the phone is connected) does the usb device have a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it beside the device? If so, youshould be able to right click it and update the driver. If that doesnt work, I think HTC has a manual download available for the driver... Holla back and let us know whats going on, we're here to help!! Plus, OCN is already on this for ya, and if he cant figure it out, the God help us all LoL

Thx for taking a look at this for me.

I tried multiple time to re-download the driver. Even tried running as admin, saving to desktop ect. Regular install process starts then is interrupted.

Error is as follows.

Error 1305.Error reading from file
C:\Users\Steven\AppData\Local\Temp\{CR3DD&DC-6F1B-4FD6-9CEB-9EA4DD27E348}\HTCDriver.mse. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

Strange thing is I followed the path and get only as far as C:\Users\Steven then there is no Appdata\Local ect. These (Appdata\local\Temp show up in the public user chain. But in any event no love for our temp file.

I went as far as to try to cut and paste the path Appdata from Pubic users th Steven and strangely it tells me that path already exists but to my surprise I have no view of it.

I know this all seem kooky (despite what anyone may think I have modest computer skills) But I am truly lost. Seems to me on another occasion I had to search a similar path but had similar results. Appdata is just not visible on this path? Not sure how much this helps but thx for trying.

Just for fun I used a facility called "take ownership" of Steven. As it processes in a dos format I can see the pathway in question. Why it is simply not in the list ia still a mystery.

Again not sure how affects us but thought you would like to know.

Thx

Thanks youdoofus I appreciate it. Mounted phone both in charge only and as a disk drive, checked device manager no problem. No triangles so all seems well.

Glad to know you all are here to help it is greatly appreciated.

O.K. changed file viewing in control panel to allow hidden folder viewing. Path can now be seen but our specific folder is still not there.

As I attempt to install the drivers, I checked the path and there is indeed a folder (name changes with each attempt) that seems to have all the data we need there. Tried to run the installer from the inside of the file and no joy.

Just for kicks I tried to install the drivers on another computer in the house. Went in just like butter so rather that waste every ones time I will just complete the root from there. Can not do it today but sometime over the weekend.

Would still like to know why my machine has issues with this so if you have a fast solution I would be grateful.

Thanks for all the help...

Ok, if you went into device manager(while phone is plugged in) and you do not see the yellow triangle, that means you alread have device drivers installed.

If you want to install the ones you downloaded you would need to unistall what is already installed.

When I installed this on the other computer a program file was created.
On the computer I am having trouble with I can not find any trace of these drivers to uninstall. Searched for anything HTC and can not find a thing.
