so i commented on the vid with some corrections referring to the car panel app and it not going into landscape. i'll be sure to mention it again when i get the second part done this weekend. i'm actually gonna try to get it done on thursday and upload on friday but we'll see. i'm busy with math tests all week.

I personally do need it. That's why I recommend the Custom Car Home. You can customize it with several different apps that you use while on the road, so I have it set to have phone/nav applications on the home page, page to the right is entertainment (e.g. video, music, etc.), and page to the left is emails and texts.

I have placed six orders so far for customers on this forum, and have shipped them all from the warehouse to their address of choice. I ordered two for myself, and just got them this morning. Placed the order on 8/20, delivered this morning 8/24.
 
okay, so i'm gonna shoot the second part on friday during my lunch break. by then i should have a stock ROM loaded and all that good stuff. if my cd player doesn't detect it then, that will lead me to believe something was changed when we updated to FroYo, as i'm positive it worked before the 2.2 update.

Received my dock yesterday and I love it! Yeah it was 59.99 but I say it's worth it. It''s strudy and I use it with the Custom Car Home App. The one thing that seems no one has mentioned yet is that it doess not shake or vibrate as you drive. It stays very sturdy. Just my 2 cents.
 
Ordered mine 2 days ago, received my confirmation yesterday, shipped yesterday with tracking. Thanks to the Spokane store for the quick and easy service, and I live on the opposite coast.
 
the fact that you would have to take your case off every time you put it on the charger is just stupid , that right there makes it a bust for me , having to snap off case , put on holder , take off holder , put case back on , i would not use a case at all then becase of the hasel , if you need a dock that will charge i would deff. get this one, as it does all the same things , and has 2 usb ports ,and can use a case , and is cheaper Innotraveler Car Kit For use with HTC EVO 4G

but if chargeing is not a big thing i have this one , wich is built well , and works perfect and only cost me like $23 at sprint after dicounts Sprint - All Accessories

i am happy with the universal one i got , and was thinking about getting the evo dock , because of the charge option built in , but the fact that you cant use a case , along with to me it kinda looks cheap built ? i know you all will dissagree but to me the seidioonline one looks stronger , and is way more usable , when the guy in that vid was trying to rotate it , it didnt look easy ...lol he had to wrench on it and if you had to turn it with force you would rip it off the window ... all in all im dissapointed a little , i was going to buy this , and had high hopes , and deff dont think it lived up to the hype , not even about the money but i just think there is better out there , that happen to be cheaper

it just knows automatically. has something to do with the usb pin connector on the dock. same reason i suppose as to why it won't let you play audio through the usb while in the dock.

As I far as i know this is still 'under development' and not generally available.

It doesn't look like it but does the HTC official dock have any USB ports to change other devices too?
 
Okay, so after debating for an entire day whether I should use the 3m sticker on my dash, I decided to hold off and try the bean bag I got from 1saleaday.com (a while back for $10) and it works fantastic with the OEM HTC dock. The only thing I don't like about the bean bag is that I have to mount the HTC dock a little off center due to the USB port being on the base of the dock. Other than that, works fantastic.

There is one HUGE thing that I noticed about the OEM dock that I'm hoping I can figure out. Right now, I'm using the 3.5mm jack to connect my phone to the car stereo (using a tape adaptor...Yeah, I know it's strange, but my car came with a tape player stock and it was before AUX adaptors were standard on most cars, especially mine...LOL). Anyhow, I noticed that when I plug the phone into the dock, it automatically bumps the volume to the highest level. Only reason I noticed this is, I've been used to lowering the volume to mid-level (phone and media volume), so that the clarity is better when transmitting through the speakers. I tested it out when I got to my office, while the music player was going. While the phone is in the dock, the music is completely distorted and TOO loud, but as soon as I take it off the dock (without stopping the music player), it sounds great because the volume levels are set lower.

Anybody else experience this and/or know how to adjust it so it doesn't automatically bump the volume level up on the phone while docked?

It goes into dock mode by grounding pin 4 on the micro usb.
The charging setup is pin 1 power, pin 5 ground.
 
I concur with everyone who has gotten the HTC EVO car dock. Works like a charm. Got mine last night plugged it on the way to work and it is a piece of art. Very sturdy, I would almost say elegant but that might be too metro for the men around here.

no. as far as width in the dock, it would work, but the fit with the rubber piece at the top is snug, and it would prob cause problems with fitting into the usb part correctly on the bottom. if you use one of those thin hard cases that only covers up the back and sides, that should work. i'll prob demo that in my second part review on friday since i have one.

really? lol
it takes like 2 seconds as long as you don't have one of those clunky cases on. i rock a TPU case and literally pull it out in a few seconds flat.

on trips when i know it's going to be in and out of the dock, i'll prob put one of the thin cases i have on it that just covers up the sides and back. won't have to take it out of anything then.

as far as that 7 dollr one , i hate to tell you bud but that will be the biggest waste of $7 you ever spent , thats one of those ones youd buy at walmart , in the cheap car accssories section ..... , that thing will be so flimzy it will bounce all around and fall off , in the pic they dont even use a evo in the charger , its a cut out of a picture of an evo ??? lol

I can't believe so many people would come into this thread, dedicated to the stock evo dock, just to say they wouldn't spend the money on this dock. And I'm even more surprised that people who'd spend 200 or more on a phone, would purposely go out of their way to tell the whole world that they wouldn't spend the money.

News flash for those that keep thinking you're making a point...we couldn't care less if you're too cheap to drop the cash on the product...lol

It's like the people that go into the seidio threads just to say, why would you buy the seidio 3500 battery for so much, when you can buy the 3000 mah battery from ebay for so much less.

Again...nobody in those seidio threads really cares about people goin for another product.

This type of comment reminds me of the car forum I moderate. There are always those people not willing to pay top dollar products and go the cheap route, but then come back to complain about how that cheap part they bought broke so fast or doesn't fit right...lol...unfreaking believable how many people just feel the need to say something just to say it and get attention.

Go post in the generic dock thread if that's what you got and stop messing up a good thread talking about the htc dock!

Uh huh.. I have had my $7 dock in the car for 3 weeks now, including 12 hour road trip.. It's yet to "fall off" or "bounce around". It does just just what it's intended to do. But enjoy your $65 dock - I am sure it sticks your EVO to the dashboard 9 times better than my "WallMart dock"!

Exactly my point - spending $200 on a complex state-of the art piece of electronics is fully justified.. Spending more than a third of that on a piece of plastic (when equally functional alternatives are available) is nuts.

And relax a little.. Many people who are looking for a car dock aren't even aware that there are alternatives to Sprint/HTC essentially gouging you on the price of what should be a $20 accessory.

If it works for you, it works for you. I'm not questioning that. There are 10 MILLION (of course I'm exaggerating here) other DOCK threads that have been made on these EVO forums since even before the phone released that you could've posted in and that people can post in.

Nuts for who? For you maybe. Sorry, but I live in L.A., so spending $65 on a dock is not that surprising to me. I know a TON of people in L.A. that spend A LOT more on stuff that I would find even more insignificant and unnecessary, but do I go out of my way to tell them it's a waste of their money? HELL NO. That's up to them how they want to spend their money. Get off your high horse about what YOU PERSONALLY feel is or isn't worth $. Like I said, go find the universal dock threads to polute.

Relax a little? Dude, you decided to post in THIS thread and the first thing you did was basically talk ISH about how many people actually want to spend the money on this cock. And you're telling me to relax? It would've been different if your approach was just to say that your Universal dock works fine for you, but hey...that's not the same for everyone buddy.

Let me ask you this. Find me another dock that has the micro USB connector on the BASE of the dock (and not have to plug into your phone) that costs LESS than this! If you find it, I'll give you props. So far, the ONLY other one I've seen that has the same format is the ProClip dock. AND IT COSTS THE SAME!
 
Maybe some people were expecting the dock to be better and are surprised at its limitations for the money when a $7 dock seems to do the same exact thing without the charging capability. I can't believe some people get angry and defensive about someone dissing the car dock. $200 for the Evo is worth it. There is a price to quality ratio it hits. This dock doesn't hit that ratio for them.

I'm not getting defensive about that at all. I'm getting defensive about someone coming into a thread specifically dedicated to the official HTC EVO CAR DOCK, just to tell me what is or isn't worth $65. To me, that's just someone trying to draw attention, not contribute anything constructive.
 
I like my Evo dock. Bought one for my girlfriend and my mother. Dad saw it, loved it, and ordered one. When you see it, you'll want it. It's just a very well built dock, and I don't regret buying it at all. It takes a second to figure out the whole snapping/yellow line thing with the suction cup, but once you get it, you love it.
Getting 25% off is nice too. $72 for a dock and car charger, that both have a one year warranty through Sprint. How can you really go wrong?
If you want to buy the cheaper dock, great... enjoy... but don't come whining to us when it snaps off and your phone slides off your dash out the window.

Seriously dude, get over it. I am not telling YOU how to spend your money, I could care less. This is an open forum last time I checked, and I am just as entitled to post here as you are.

I pointed out there is a much cheaper alternative to HTC official dock, and that I am happy with its quality and function. I provided the link to the eBay auction. Maybe some people (not you) find this info useful, and maybe they will decide to go that route and save a few bucks. I think my post was more constructive than most posts I see here.

And if you're seriously offended at my "I can't believe some people are willing to drop $65" comment - grow some skin. It's just an opinion.. You're happy with what you got for the money? Great for you, move on.
