EVO vs iPhone 4 Speed Test

Dude,

Stop being so defensive. I am trying to convince myself to keep the Evo. You with your "I hate iPhone, I love EVO" attitude is unnecessary.

I love everything about the EVO.

Screen size, better camera, Google app integration, Navigation, HQ YouTube, keyboard (and ability to install more like Swype), kickstand, customizability, Widgets, Shortcuts etc, etc.

I get it. Also it is almost $60 cheaper per month with my employee discount.

Having said that, why the hell am I seeing 1/3 the speed with the Speed Test app? Is it inaccurate? Is it the area I am in? Is it the way I am "NOT" holding the phone?

Simpel question. Answer if you know the answer or have proof. If not stop making dumb a.. comments.

Help me become and Android fan.

Thanks

How about just load some pages and see which is faster. If the Iphone is 3x faster then you have your answer.

I think you'll find what everyone else has. The EVO is as fast or faster in actual downloading pages and that's while loading full flash in addition to the actual page.

How about just using the phone and worrying less about tests, that seems like what anyone who's really trying to get to the bottom of something would do.

Every review I have seen, they are pretty close on 3G. Evo blows it away on 4G and when Froyo comes out, forget it. It will absolutely shred the iPhone times :)

Do you really think sprint will just give you froyo? It's already out, and you have to do it yourself.

I still do not see your point. Use the device and stop running tests! If you like what you see then keep it. If you don't then go with the iPhone. It couldn't be any more simpler then that.

You are fortunate to have both devices in your hand at the same time. Keep the one you like to use better! They each have there pro's and con's.

Now make a decision and move on! Or at least go bother the iPhone community!

he's talking about custom roms. We've had froyo for a while now. was playing with it last night with the 30 fps cap lifted and overclocked to 1.2. FAST, almost too fast . Silky smooth (the UI that is). Flash is cool too. I like the slight UI tweaks they made

Tethered a Touch Pro2 just now to my laptop. Here are the results. Definitely not Evo-specific:

What? Do you know what you are talking about? You have EVO 4g in your sig, I'm having a hard time believing that after this comment.

Yes, froyo is obtainable on the evo. No, sprint will not give it to you automatically. They are trying to charge $30 a month for the hotspot feature, and are making money off of it. Why would they give us an OS that took away $30/mo. from select customers?

Do YOU know what you're talking about?

Where I live in Waco, I get around .5-1.0 download, .5-1.0 upload on 4g. I was on the other side of Waco this weekend and got consistent 4-5 mbps download and 1 mbps upload.

Dude, where are you getting your information from? Wherever it's coming from, it's bad information. Coming directly from Sprint's Twitter account:

HTC EVO will be updated to Android 2.2; Samsung Moment & HTC Hero will not. Future devices launching w/ 2.1 will be also be updated to 2.2

Do I expect them to gimp the tethering ability in FroYo? Absolutely. Is there a way around it? There already is. :D

Man, if I actually tried to prove this noob wrong I think he'd cry from embarrassment.

Test results are in line with what I'm seeing on my co-worker's iPhones. They're getting 3mbps (3000kbps) on 3G while I typically see 500-800kbps if I'm lucky. This is in Houston, TX.

For what it's worth, I've yet to see 3mb even over 4G, which I usually can only get outdoors. 2.8mbps is the best I've seen so far.

Sprint's data network was almost enough to get me to return my Evo, but I liked the phone itself enough that I'm just living with it.

Really? My mom lives in savannah place hw 6 and Richmond when I go over there I see 3.86 mbps everytime that's weird your not getting better results.also the 3.86 isn't even full bars 4g I love going over there I live in beasley and 4g probably won't be in that 1 horse town for a While

you my friend...
are embarrassing us fellow DFW dudes! (Dallas / Ft Worth)

please check your info before you spread more mis-information!

OP, I have both.
The I4 consistently get speeds of 2.5 Mbps up and over 1.0 down.
On the evo in 4g, I get average of 1.7 Mbps up and under 1 down. I live in Portland OR and have strong signal for both, I'm not sure what's going on with sprints 4g. Ive tried different ways of testing and AT&T is always faster. Hope this helps, I'm on the same boat; still undecided what to keep.

Good luck

You obviously have not been paying attention.

requesting you do me a favor... since you can see the speed test shows that .... iphone is faster. Using 3G on iphone and 4G on EVO.

can you time the 2 phones loading big webpages? see which finishes faster.

To be fair, please do one set of test with websites that DONT have FLASH...
and another set of test with websites that DO have FLASH.

if you have time... try same set of test.. with both on 3G.

Thanks, I am interested to seeing the results.

ps.. I would do these test myself... If i had either of these phones!!! :P

Of course it's faster it's a Hummingbird, Snapdragons suck. If you want performance and not sell your soul to Steve Jobs wait for the Epic 4G, as far as a comparison is concerned the Evo will get owned everytime by a Hummingbird.

I tried gizmodo.com, i4 on 3G ad evo on 4g

iPhone 18 seconds
Evo 21 seconds

iPhone on 3G and evo on 3G

iPhone 19 seconds
Evo 20 seconds

Both tests with cleared cache, history, etc. What's going on with sprint's 4g? It seems like their 3G is faster!

Depends on the area your in. Remember, WiMax is still a fresh technology, and they are encountering fresh problems, and optimizations have yet to be made. 3G is been refined over and over again. When 3G first hit, it was 3x slower than it is today.

i think Gizmodo, the Gadget Guide has a lot of flash content.. right?
if so.. that would affect the test results? The EVO will be loading a lot of extra data, then process the Flash data!...right?

also.. looking at the speed test difference (big difference)... and the web test difference (smaller differnece)...
The web test shows that the Speed test is NOT accurate.
Why.. I dont know.
