The speedtest app on our EVOs do not give accurate results
Dude,
Stop being so defensive. I am trying to convince myself to keep the Evo. You with your "I hate iPhone, I love EVO" attitude is unnecessary.
I love everything about the EVO.
Screen size, better camera, Google app integration, Navigation, HQ YouTube, keyboard (and ability to install more like Swype), kickstand, customizability, Widgets, Shortcuts etc, etc.
I get it. Also it is almost $60 cheaper per month with my employee discount.
Having said that, why the hell am I seeing 1/3 the speed with the Speed Test app? Is it inaccurate? Is it the area I am in? Is it the way I am "NOT" holding the phone?
Simpel question. Answer if you know the answer or have proof. If not stop making dumb a.. comments.
Help me become and Android fan.
Thanks
Every review I have seen, they are pretty close on 3G. Evo blows it away on 4G and when Froyo comes out, forget it. It will absolutely shred the iPhone times![]()
I still do not see your point. Use the device and stop running tests! If you like what you see then keep it. If you don't then go with the iPhone. It couldn't be any more simpler then that.Dude,

Do you really think sprint will just give you froyo? It's already out, and you have to do it yourself.
What? Do you know what you are talking about? You have EVO 4g in your sig, I'm having a hard time believing that after this comment.
Yes, froyo is obtainable on the evo. No, sprint will not give it to you automatically. They are trying to charge $30 a month for the hotspot feature, and are making money off of it. Why would they give us an OS that took away $30/mo. from select customers?
Do YOU know what you're talking about?
HTC EVO will be updated to Android 2.2; Samsung Moment & HTC Hero will not. Future devices launching w/ 2.1 will be also be updated to 2.2

Test results are in line with what I'm seeing on my co-worker's iPhones. They're getting 3mbps (3000kbps) on 3G while I typically see 500-800kbps if I'm lucky. This is in Houston, TX.
For what it's worth, I've yet to see 3mb even over 4G, which I usually can only get outdoors. 2.8mbps is the best I've seen so far.
Sprint's data network was almost enough to get me to return my Evo, but I liked the phone itself enough that I'm just living with it.

I've generally had poor results from the speedtest app on the EVO. I'll get 1Mbps on it and moments later I'll go to the Speakeasy speedtest site and get 7-11 Mbps . I think there are issues with the Speedtest app on the EVO.

OP, I have both.
The I4 consistently get speeds of 2.5 Mbps up and over 1.0 down.
On the evo in 4g, I get average of 1.7 Mbps up and under 1 down. I live in Portland OR and have strong signal for both, I'm not sure what's going on with sprints 4g. Ive tried different ways of testing and AT&T is always faster. Hope this helps, I'm on the same boat; still undecided what to keep.
Good luck

requesting you do me a favor... since you can see the speed test shows that .... iphone is faster. Using 3G on iphone and 4G on EVO.
can you time the 2 phones loading big webpages? see which finishes faster.
To be fair, please do one set of test with websites that DONT have FLASH...
and another set of test with websites that DO have FLASH.
if you have time... try same set of test.. with both on 3G.
Thanks, I am interested to seeing the results.
ps.. I would do these test myself... If i had either of these phones!!!![]()
I tried gizmodo.com, i4 on 3G ad evo on 4g
iPhone 18 seconds
Evo 21 seconds
iPhone on 3G and evo on 3G
iPhone 19 seconds
Evo 20 seconds
Both tests with cleared cache, history, etc. What's going on with sprint's 4g? It seems like their 3G is faster!
