No lag for me...I'm using optimized

Optimum settings worked great for me on both the DX and Samsung Fascinate. AutoKiller really is great, and it won't harm your battery life. I had stability issues with anything above "optimum" on my Fascinate, but it might be ok with the DX.

If anything it helped my DX battery life ... I completely recommend it. Worth every penny! :D

I use "aggressive" as well. You can try using some of the higher presets, but if you notice instability issues cropping up set it back down to something less intense. I honestly don't see any need to go any higher than aggressive. But that's just me.

I used to freeze all the bloat as well with TIBU but now I just deleted them...It frees up more memory under your system. Plus, you can always reinstall them with root explorer.

How do you delete them? Im thinking of this as well, but guess I need to back them up first and then delete them?

I have Titanium backup but to be honest all I've done with it so far it freeze apps. Have not done a backup yet either.

I need to learn this stuff so I can deodex (whatever that is) and theme my phone.

EDIT: To anyone really. Is AutoKiller really necessary for us root users?

If you know what the actually apk is called you can delete them under system/apps with root explorer. Make sure you click the "r/w" button at the top right before deleting...If you are going to use TIBU just click on the app you want to delete and select "uninstall"...I recommend you backup your system with Droid X Bootstrapper before you uninstall any system apps just in case you mess anything up.

I will try that when Im ready. So I need Droid X Bootstrapper for that?

Question on Autokiller. What is is supposed to do just manage memory? I've not seen any improvement so far. From a fresh reboot, I had about 212MB free (according to the app).

My phone has been up about 3 to four hours since (and I've not used it much aside from one phone call and two text messages). Right now it says I have 79MB free. Does this sound right?

The Android OS puts apps in memory because theoretically it doesn't affect the way it operates. What Autokiller does is let you set the parameters of the memory usage. If your phone is not lagging I wouldn't adjust the settings, if you find that it is lagging you can bump the settings up to free up some memory.

Thanks for the quick explanation. My phone was lagging a bit, so I set it to aggressive. I will keep an eye on it tomorrow.

Cheer.

Had my autokiller set to aggressive but had some force closes today. Gonna roll it back.to optimum and see how it goes. May try strict but will see. Battery life seems better tho have to say!

I've done a lot of things to improve my battery live, so it's hard to say which one is working better than all the rest of the things I've implemented, but I feel Autokiller also helped me out considerably.

The list of things I did was...

1. Got the extended battery (I consider this a must, as I couldn't get squat out of my stock battery... like 5 hours if I babied it).

2. Installed Autokiller and set it to 'Aggressive' (this cleared up just about all of my lag issues. I consider this a must as well for root users).

3. Installed and set up BatteryFU (I set mine up so that data is only enabled once the screen is unlocked. This can screw up Wireless Tether as data shuts off once the phone goes to sleep, but I plug my phone in while tethering anyhow and in my settings the phone never sleeps while plugged in, so it's not a problem).

4. Set my battery mode to 'Maximum Battery Saver' (Nightime saver did nothing for me since I plug my phone in at night).

5. Installed Titanium Back-Up and froze all the bloatware on my phone (so now things like Blockbuster and some of the other apps that I NEVER used aren't constantly running in the background. Not sure how much power they ever really used, but now they are using none).

6. Upgraded to 2.2 froyo (duh, a lot of people may have completely forgot by now, but I still remember 2.1 and what a battery hog that OS was. I definately saw a difference just from going from 2.1 to 2.2. Maybe not a night and day difference, but they told us once 2.2 hit we would see improved efficiency with the new OS and I for one feel like they delivered on that promise).

So, out of the box my battery life was complete sheet. I honestly was so disgusted I didn't know if I was going to be able to keep the phone. In the first week I had it I went out on 3 occasions and on all 3 occasions my phone ended up dying on me while I was out. This frusterated me to no end. The first (and probably biggest) step I took was running out and getting the extended battery as I found one at the Verizon store a few towns away from me. Forsure it made the biggest impact on my battery life, if not for that purchase I don't know that I would still own this phone. It truely made all the difference.

Tweaking it out I feel has improved it even more. And like I said, with so many different things going on it's hard to sit here and say, "oh yes Autokiller gave me another 2 hours worth of unplug time", because I don't know forsure how much of the improved battery life is attributed to just installing Autokiller, and how much of the improvement is its interaction with all the other variables. All I do know is this, when I unplug my phone at 100% charge my BatteryLeft meter shows that I have about 12 hours worth of unplug time to go. Now I know that there are tons of people on this board that claim to get 2 and 3 days worth of use out of their stock battery, and all I have to say about that is that they do not use their phone in the same way that I use mine. 12 hours for what I do with my phone is phenominal IMO. For one thing I've heard lot of people say that live wallpapers are a huge battery drain. Well I've been running 'City at Night' live wallpaper, playing lots of video games, and play on the internet quite a bit, and I haven't had it die on me since doing all these different battery saver techniques.

I've kept the stock battery charged and in my pocket everytime I've gone out just in case, but have yet to have to change it out since installing Autokiller anyways, maybe even before that, I can't say forsure. But at any rate, I'm completely satisfied with the performance I can get out of it now. If something else comes down the pike I won't be afraid to implement it as well. But as of right now, I'm not scouring the market for additional ways to improve my battery life anymore.

That used to be an addiction of mine, but I kicked that habit with the improvements that I've made to date.

Woooooeeee... I just discovered 'Webkey' for root users. How cool is this app? Why haven't I heard anyone else ever mention this app? This ****ing ROCKS!!!!

I was using moderate settings on auto-killer. Re-installed based on the recommendations in this thread. I'm now using aggressive and loving it. Thanks guys :)

I'm sorry but what are you doing with the device? talking over BT, while surfing wifi? cause I get a full day and messing around with the phone on a charge and have some left over.

Otherwise, deleting the added apps running in the back ground certainly helped, that and using screebl.

You have to be on it much harder than I am.

I'm a heavy user and when I use my phone heavily I get about 3 hours out of the battery. When I use it light i'll be down to around 30-40% after 14 hours or so. That is on the PTA 2.2, I just installed the ApeX Rom and I get just a little bit better life under heavy use but much better life with light use. By heavy use I mean play a game or browsing the web. The display is what eats up my battery, even on dim. If all I do is talk all day I don't consider that heavy because my display is not on.

What do you guys define as "heavy" or "light" use? For me heavy would be navigating while listening to music, with a few quick searches for gas or food. On a "normal" day I play angry birds for about an hour, 100-200 sms, checking gmail for the countless notifications of all my threads on here I keep track of, checking newsrob 3 or 4 times a day (20 or so articles each time), browsing the stories I found on the web, and talking to my wife for about an hour on her drive home. To me that is normal but to others I assume that would be heavy. With all that I ususlly get 14 to 15 hours before I plug it in (usually about 20-30% left). I have autokiller set at its highest level (optimum) I clear cache religiously with cachecleaner (virtually everytime I wake the phone up, and my newest addiction is fast reboot. Battery manager is set to performance with no animations, and LaucherPro set to its fastest setting (scrolling speed, keep in memory, etc..)
