Fonts, Nandroids and Lost Data: A Cautionary Tale.

Well, as a few of you may know, I've been on MikG3.0B2 for quite a while. Well, I was screwing around trying out the different fonts today... Then I decided that I like the default font a bit better, so I went back to it. Well, at first the download failed (I guess it needs to download the default font?! ).... so I tried again. Froze! "Oh... no," I say, "hope it doesn't need a wipe or anything..." Laughing to myself at that insane idea, I pull the battery. Much to my dismay, the phone doesn't get past the white Evo screen. "Damn!" I say. So I pull the battery, jump into recovery ("oh good, that's still there"). I wipe cache and davlik, thinking that'll fix things right up. Nope. No luck. Time for a nandroid restore. Unfortunately my last nandroid was almost two months ago ....

Lost a bunch of applications, the data to them, and a few high scores!

Moral of the story: Nandroid weekly! Also, don't screw around with fonts

Naahh.. but nandroid more often obviously. Now I've gotta wait for everything to update, and with my lousy signal, that'll take a while....

Thought I'd share that little tale for you guys to laugh at....

I think the moral of the story is if you dont have time to do a nandroid you dont have time to mess with things or you better find the time to fix it

thanx for sharing that little tale. any time i mess around with customizations i always make a nandroid backup and i also back up my apps with tb as well. i hate having to go back that far and sort of start over. such a pain in my arse!!!!! when it happens.

Normally I backup (Nandroid) once a week then I backup sdcard to computer. I will go in a rid myself anything that is older than the last three nandroids. (usually they are way out of date at this point)

For fonts I use font changer. Simple to use and free

Good call on font changer, I'll look into that - but to be honest, I find that the default font is usually easiest to read. I really liked the one from the old myn's warm 2.2 roms, but it wasn't as easy to read as stock font.

Yeah, definitely gotta do some more nandroids .... I just didn't think fonts were anything too serious.

i just did the same thing with mine, and this is the second time i figured it was the rom i was usin...i had no nandroid no nothin so now im bout to play around wit different roms n see which one i like better

yes we all have had problems we learn from...i myself have 4 nan in recovery all the time and switch over roms just to use and update every other day cause i like them so much and before i change anything on my current rom i charge up and do another nan just in case because u never know even though i use backup apps lol ...and yes i do guess i am anal but it helps sometime lol..never backup enough...lol

I use the scheduler from TB to backup data for apps. This way, if an issue like this happens again, your app data will be backed up.

Nandroids are essential for a rooted phone but I've always felt that having a stable, go to rom is also a good thing to keep on your sdcard. Just in case you have a corrupt nandroid. I always keep MikG on my sdcard just for these issues.

It also sounds like data partition got screwed up so, wiping the data partition probably would have helped.
