For all those having issues. If you had a previous install you must remove then reboot. And re-install from above link or go here:

how do i used this barcode things?

never mind i got it...

Install root
install wifi tethering at the top of this thread
open wifi tethering app
set ssid, access control list enabled, DO not check encryption!
Close wifi app(i had luck opening and closeing app, might need a reboot)
open wifi tethering again
click to turn it on
should see ap in your connecting device, click to connect to the wifi of your ssid you set
on the evo, you will see your device in the menu access control list
check the box to allow your wireless mac

should be connected and going. Its kinda crude steps but that worked for me.

Did all the steps and got error 67 now I just put my xoskin on and will have to wait to turn it back on

Why not encryption?

I'm using WEP and it works just fine! :)

I have WPA2 on my Sprint Mobile WiFi HotSpot though -- oh wait, no I don't, I forgot I logged onto sprintpcs.com earlier today and canceled that $30/month service!!! PWN3D!! :D :D

What's your log file say? hit menu

Whenever I try to display logs it says can not find logs or something, I've uninstalled it awhile ago so I can't remember exactly what it says, but I've unininstalled old version, rebooted, installed new version, rebooted. I've done it all, it doesn't work. I find it really hard to believe I'm the only one having this problem.

i read on their site they have an issue with sence and wep on wifi tethering. I couldnt get it to work with encryption on but i only tried once.

Not sure what error 67 is. Is root installed?

I also disabled Y5 battery saver. It's an app that turns off wi-fi automatically when I'm not home. That seemed to mess with how the tethering worked. I'd disable anything that messes with the wi-fi automatically or 3G/4G for that matter. You guys really have to give a better description then "It doesn't work" give me/us details.

I have installed root successfully, i have installed the wifi tether app successfully...i have renamed ssid, i have access control ENABLED, and encryption is UNCHECKED...the i hit "start tethering"...it works i assume. it show to kb up and down as well as green wifi in status bar:

BUT NEITHER MY LAPTOP OR HERO SEE THE TETHER AS A POSSIBLE SOURCE TO CONNECT TO...any ideas? im restarting again to see if this helps..THANKS!

EDIT: do i need to go into sprint 30.00 a month thing too?
EDIT 2: I'm doing this over 3g NOT 4g

What prevents Sprint from determining that people not on the hotspot plan are pulling several gig's of data? Any fear of getting caught for this?

Don't think that'd be a big issue as wired tethering is free out of the box.

Also you can use the hot spot app for free if you have 4g access. However that's not the case with 3g access. I've confirmed this with several friends connecting their laptops/mp3 players thru my phone several times already. :)

Does anyone know why I wouldn't have internet access on my laptop through the tethering app. I am using Unrevoked and the pre14 with a laptop running Windows 7. The computer recognizes the Evo as a source and establishes a connections but there is no internet access. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Thats funny, because I've been saying we need more details other than "it works!" I've followed all the instructions that everyone has given to me to no avail.

Now I read above that someone changed the SSID, is that necessary? If so why? AndroidTether seems a good a name as any.

to no avail.

(rolls eyes) What KIND of no avail. I'm happy to help a little, but what errors out, or can you just not see wifi? what are the logs saying? Do I have to spell this out? Sorry I'm abrasiveness, but you won't get a clear response without a clear question/problem

Access Control is Enabled, I changed the SSID, Re-installed the binaries/configs. I hit "Press to start tethering" and I get "Unable to start tethering. Please try again!"

I go to "Show Log" in the menu and I get "Unable to open log-file"

I've restarted the phone before installation and after, both problems still occur.

Before starting the program I turn on my WiFi, after exiting the program I see that my WiFi is now shut off.

+1 same problem

access control list is empty

ok i unistalled everything al downloaded it from the phone browser and then installed through astro....it actually worked this time and didnt have to reboot...hope it stays this simple...

can i still do up to 8 devices?? or one at a time?

how come this doesnt work with toast?

I think I know Why. I just installed it on my wife Hero and notice that it wrote or changed some permission to /system/app... or /app/app...

And it works.

Rooting with Toast doesn't give you r/w permission unless you boot into recovery mode.

I guess we will just have to wait. Thats my guess...
