Froyo 2.2 OTA is just around the corner

Well, Motorola announced that the Eris will not be getting the update. My thinking is that this decision was holding up the Droid X update. Maybe they wanted to update the Eris 1st, but were having problems. I think the updates will start taking place within the next 24 hours.

Someone mentioned a week or so ago that a rc was sent to verizon, and they rejected it because it still had some sort of issue. Maybe moto had to fix that last bug before release?

That would make sense... moto thought it was done a few weeks ago, but then verizon rejected it, and as a result, the release was delayed by a few weeks.

That's strange, especially because HTC, not motorola owns the Eris.

though this is only speculation this is being held up btw VZW for the simple fact they hold up all updates.

When i had my BB they would hold out on updates till at least a couple of months after companies in God knows where have released theirs.

Not sure on what the reason is but as i said before i don't see any logical reason for to be held up still...

Just a random thought. But NONE of us "know" what the hold up is, so my guess is as good as your's. Btw, the maker of the phone, such as HTC, Motorola, etc., plays a small roll in the release of an "official" os update. Unless you know for a FACT that the leaked version is what we're getting, and we're just waiting on individual makers to make it compatible to their devices, then you can't shoot my comment down. And who's to say that the CARRIER (Verizon), doesn't playy a roll in this? The Eris and Droid X ARE BOTH exclusive to Verizon. If any of us actually "knew" what the hold up is, this thread wouldn't exist.

The X is crippled hugely with multiple gmail personal and google app email accounts. If I didn't have the 2.2. leak I'd be SOL with my work emails. The difference in keyboard responce from 2.1 to 2.2 is also night and day. It still shocks the shit out of me they released this phone the way it was with 2.1

Now back to the reason I checked back in to this topic. I have an inside source who is right maybe 70% of the time. Good enough for me! She says verbatim (almost) "we didn't want sales of the Droid 2 to be diminished by the X, so the 2 (Droid), was purposely released far enough in advance to achieve its sales goals for the quarter, which ends in September, or when sales of either device diminishes, which ever comes first."
Don't bite my head off or ask me who. Just someone I befriended over the phone who works for Motorola because her brother worked with me.
Google didn't like this, so they leaked it in advance, so Motorola rebutted with warnings not to install any unofficial versions.

that makes a lot of sense, motorola would never this release that news, but you had to figure $ would play some kind of a role. The fact is, even without froyo, the X is backordered till the end of the month, so why would they care about ticking off a few fanatics?

All I know is that the Autumnal Equinox is Sep 22nd @ 11:09 PM EDT. We keep hearing "late summer." As this is written, there are now approximately 94 hours of summer left. Will they make it? ;)
