Have you rebooted since the *228? I don't think *228 really fixes the problem. I think it's the fact that the phone reboots afterwards that fixes it.
I had the same issue, did a battery pull and it sticks around a bit longer... You try that yet?
Join the club. It's a known issue with Froyo. There's a 2-3 page thread on it a few pages back.
Just did and it solved it (for now).
Sorry for the duplicate thread thenI will keep up with the other thread for a fix....
The best thing to do for battery life is Root, install an undervolted kernal , download set cpu and make some battery saving profiles for when the battery is getting low and when the screen is off. I'm getting 24+hrs up and 6+hrs awake time on my stock battery now. PRetty much have doubled my battery life since rooting
Anyone have a more detailed guide on doing this?
UPDATE: I did a factory reset and everything seems to be okay...on towers that are not my own. At home I now have 3G again, but I have no location services. Google homepage does not find location. Weather and News & Weather Widget cannot find my location. Everytime I call tech support, they want to send me a new phone...WTF. I just want them to check my tower.
KNOWN issue?? Known by whom? VZW doesn't acknowledge it and the very nice, but mentally challenged HTC rep I talked to had no idea either.

Here is my Battery set up with SetCPU that has given me up to 30hrs uptime ona stock battery and gets me 12-16hrs of Heavy use (ie Turn by Turn NAV, Pandora, Lots of BT streaming, emailing, calls etc..)

I did a full reset, and took out my root. Went back to 2.1 stock radio and all but no go my 3G was still gone and my 1x data was spotty . Making an Asurion claim today
It's obvious a problem with my hardware not softwarre, bummer but atleast I learned alot during the trouble shooting process
I'm leaning towards a network/tower issue. For me the issue is location based. I only have the problem at home. I have been 4 or 5 different places where this has not been an issue. As a matter of fact, it works great just down the road a few miles.
i was in the 'applications' section...force stopping some background programs, that i felt i wasn't using. for some odd reason my 3G ICON is no longer showing, and i can't get online for market place, news widget won't operate. Wifi is the only connection i have to download or upload content.
can someone help me figure this? what did i force stop that would interfere with the 3G service?
thx in advance
disregard, i took the battery from the back for a few minutes, replaced it.... and VOILA!!!!
the icon is back, and i am back in service.
Does turning airplane mode on then off again do anything for you?I think a lot of people think that *228 or a battery pull fix the problem, but really they don't. The problem is fixed by them power cycling their phone. *228 and a battery pull both involve cycling the phone and that is what is fixing the issue.
I've been in contact with an HTC senior tech who has been reading this thread and another over at verizon's forums and collecting information to get this issue resolved. My 3G connection has been disappearing since upgrading to FroYo. I used the leaked Install.zip file and did a factory reset a day or two later. My 3G disappears randomly, not after a power cycle.
Toggling Airplane Mode will case 3G to show up again even if I don't move my phone - so I know that it isn't happening due to lack of 3G availability. Toggling Airplane Mode is a lot faster than rebooting (either just doing a power cycle or *228 or pulling the battery), but still a PITA.
Has anyone heard about a fix from HTC/Verizon? (I just read through the thread, but didn't see any suggestions other than rebooting, toggling Airplane or getting a replacement phone).
