Root Froyo Development

If adb is working you can use fastboot to flash drellisdee's recovery as per his instructions, as long as this rom has root. (haven't tried it yet):

http://androidforums.com/getitnowmarketing/146564-ally-recovery-img-here-custom-roms.html

5) Place recovery-RA_GNM_1.13.img in android sdk tools folder and give command Code:
fastboot boot recovery-RA_GNM_1.13.img
6) Once it reboots into my recovery use adb shell and once you get root # prompt type
Code:
/ # mount /sdcard

/ # flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA_GNM_1.13.img

/ # umount /sdcard

/ # reboot
7) Power phone off then boot holding SEND+MENU+PWR and let go when you see the LG logo

No I can not. Its as if my recovery is completely gone, would flashing a recovery work the same way? I noticed a lot of apps don't work due to this being the early stages of its build.

from phone booted with froyo rom

adb push recovery.img /data/local/tmp/
adb shell
flash_image recovery /data/local/tmp/recovery.img

Hot damn! That is impressive as hell. Good stuff. If this gets to the point of usablity for people, I hope everyone donates for all of the work he has put in to these phones. I see a lot of people saying they'd donate but they're broke, but just about everyone can cough up 2 or 3 bucks for the guy's efforts.

EDIT: I didn't just mean the post above... sorry, not calling people out, just seems like everytime something is accomplished, everyone posts "thanks but I'm broke" messages.

Im 16 and I lost my job so yeah. I'm legit freaking broke

Attempting to launch the browser from the app drawer and from the homescreen dock.
*Observation* opening the browser numerous times seems to drastically slow down the phone.

Browser opens, begins to load, then "crashes" as the browser disappears. It's not a force close though.

Logcat
kvm( 1829): | sysTid=1842 nice=0 sched=0/0 cgrp= - Browser launch

EDIT: Continued using the rom, browser is able to load html links received in text messages etc, without duplicating the behavior experienced above.

Try changing the default homepage in the browsers settings. May take alittle fooling with them. And chage the homepagee to something not google related. Like yahoo.com And it should load. Lemme know if that works.

Me and drellisdee we're debugging this earlier today and he thinks it might be something google related in the rom.

I'll give it a shot.

EDIT: Looks like it is google related. Setting the homepage to facebook for example solved the problem.

First, thanks drellisdee for sharing it with us and all the work you put into it.

It is much more usable that I originally thought. Wow, is it fast! Especially with no overclock.

Haven't psted in a while but I certainly have checked the forums several times a day easy. First. Thanks soooo much dres and dots. It is truely amazing and I only wish I had near the talent you two possess. I have a question though. Anyone is welcome to answer based on opinion.
Would you recommend this as a rom replacement for velocity in this stage?Ie. need I keep switching back and forth between them or what?

One Idea that came to mind was over at XDA, someone made a Dual Boot Script for android. I'm debating trying it. Here's the link if your interested:
unCoRrUpTeD Dual Boot V1 - xda-developers

No, it is definitely not a replacement. It has problems that make it useless for everyday use. You can flash it just to try it out, but many things still don't work.

I am having trouble getting adb to work. I have used it with velocity and stock, but I can't get it to work with this. When I run adb it tells me that an android device cannot be found, and when I try to install PdaNet, it says Android phone not detected. It is in usb debug mode. Not sure what the problem is.

yes I would not recommend as a replacement. phone does not recognize SD card. no camera front buttons don't work, wifi gps other than that its slick

I was curious as to how this Rom will be released? Will it be updated periodically with bugs still in it? I would be willing to test when its further along, aka button mappings and sdcard are working which is pretty major for normal use. I can live without gps and wifi so long as im able to switch back with rom manager if I need to.

This rom was only released so we could help Drellisdee with debugging, If you are not going to do that then it is probably not in your best interest to flash it, because it's not really everyday useable, as stated in the original post.

I just tried it. I just want to say thank you to all that are putting effort into this. While I dont have specific debug information. I would like to point out something I found odd. I read numerous posts about it being uber faster and very agile. well when I flashed it (cleared data, cache, dalvik cache first) and then flash the gapps, it seemed very laggy. Maybe its just something that i didnt catch in the reading. I do want to say that I went from raptor 0.1 with turbo 4 installed to this if it helps. I was able to download apps from the market and such and confirm that it works properly. Maybe this is helpful, maybe not, but I would like to point out also that it did NOT erase my recovery(I read the post saying it was removed because of an issue with particular roms before its flashed). Hope this helps somehow!

I have sdcard fixed, mass storage working, and kernel rebuilt to support android_secure which is froyo apps on sd. I also have full HW3D accel on too.

This was done @825mhz. See rest of them here and pic of phone to prove its an ally if anyone doesn't believe it. pics here

The 900 score in albumn was done at 600mhz btw.

Wow great work. Any chance I could get that ROM with fixed SD? I will be donating as soon as I deposit some cash into my bank account. I am truly amazed at your level of dedication.
Thank You

Great job dres. Its amazing how far you alone have pushed this community along with everyone else. I keep seeing people saying they OC over 787. How is this possible?
Also, If I keep getting kernel panics, is there any damage that could result from it?

Yes constant kernel panics mean you ar stressing your CPU too far. keeping clock speed at that level can kill your cpu

Technically clock speeds doesn't damage hardware.. It's the voltage and power draw or temperatures. You also cannot "stress a CPU too far" simply because there's no limit to where a Processor will shut off because its overloaded. The android OS, like Linux or Windows uses a Queuing system for processes which means if a process overloads a processor there will be a delay in using other processes.

I'm getting an Ally later this month, glad to see that people still cares about it. :)

Can't speak for everyone here, but I think the Ally is really a decent piece of hardware. I've enjoyed using the phone, and with the dev here, it has been fun to use on a daily basis. No LG and no Verizon within, and all is well...lol.

if you browse his mediafire there's a aosp10.zip but I'm not sure if that's the updated one or not or if he even wants us to have it :P
