Root Froyo Development

Not working for me. Back and search softkey just reset the launcher. Doesnt matter where I am it just restart it.

Edit: Worked, had to wipe cache and dalvik tho.

Wouldn't mind trying this tonight to see if I can help with some input, but I do need my phone for work tomorrow. Does this build support ClockWorkMod or some other recovery so that I can easily flash back to my current ROM at the end of the night?

Your recovery should stick when flashing. I use drellisdees but i have had no issues with it disappearing so i will "assume' clockwork is the same.

Thanks, now I just have to be brave enough to try it. If it wasn't for needing the phone for work, I'd jump in head first.

Good news! Easy fix for the button mapping both on the hardware keyboard and on the front touch screen.

In /system/user/ there are two folders, keychars and keylayout

In keychars, change aloha.kcm.bin to qwerty.kcm.bin
In keylayout, change aloha.kl to qwerty.kl

If you don't have these files, let me know and I can send these to you.

Oh, copy the originals to another folder in case you mess up

Dumb question i'm sure.

I was going to rename these two files ahead of time before flashing. When I looked through the .zip file for these two files to rename them, there are already files in those folders with the correct filenames. I see the two aloha files, but like I said, there are already two other files with the correct qwerty name.

Do those need to be deleted and rename the two aloha files or do I already have the two qwerty files I need?

yes delete them and rename the aloha ones to qwerty

Got everything installed and setup just like my old ROM to compare the difference. Really nice and snappy overall. Doing some quick fooling around, I didn't actually notice anything that wasn't working right except for wifi (which is already known), but two minor things I noticed which may have already been mentioned.

Screen rotation is really slow. Probably a hardware issue more than a ROM issue. And the video player will not play movies\videos (.mp4's to be more specific) that I have previously played. Probably not the kind of debugging info you were looking for i'm sure, but thought i'd mention these things. Back to playing a bit.

Just curious if anyone tried to install flash player yet?

Awesome work everyone getting this rom developed.

A small note, since this is a new oc kernel, has anything been implemented to make it more stable? Example, adding higher voltages to maintain higher clock speeds? I've noticed about the same in way of overclocking (768 stable, panic over that)

Either way great job to everyone that contributed, and ofcourse to drellisdee for making this happen.

Just curious if anyone tried to install flash player yet?

Official player does not install. I assume because this is kernel version 2.6.29.6 and froyo is 2.6.32, or because or processor is not supported in 10.1

So this isn't technically froyo, just the froyo userland running with an eclair kernel?

Also, how can I help? I feel like all the important logcats are posted already. Ill make sure to post if I do find a bug that is not already documented. If there is any way I can help out just let me know.

Question?

Will Launcher Pro work with this Froyo Rom were deving?
Seems like I read somewhere that Launcher Pro does not work with 2.2.

I could be wrong.... happens alot.

At least that what my wife says....

Just did a quick install and basic funtions test and yes it works. ADW works too.

I can confirm for sure that LauncherPro will work flawlessly on froyo. I have been using it. THe froyo is amazing and after you fix the keys with the fix above, it totally makes this rom usable for everyday use. One thing I have found with the orientation switching being slow is that it seems to "Learn" or compensate for it as you use it. In otherwords. In the beginning, it seems like it takes forever to switch back, but as you use it, it speeds up.

Ran a quadrant OC'ing at 768 and Got to the top on the graph above the nexus one (I think is what it is.) but only by a few points. Very impressed with the rom. Thank you dres, trident, and dots and everyone else who is debugging.

One minor thing I found is the Facebook Sync service. I cannot get it to create the account. If this can be fixed or something, please share. I like being able to have all my contacts pic's synced with facebook and being able to see their status in the messaging app.

Once again... Thank You so much.

You might not get that with an AOSP rom. that feature is a socialite/LG feature. My contact pics don't stay updated with facebook pics on my Droid. someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this. does your facebook app itself work?

On the contrary, I've seen Facebook and Twitter accounts and syncing in basically all the AOSP and Cyanogen roms I've used on my Droid Eris. Don't have an Ally yet, so I haven't taken a look at this rom, but I think its supposed to be part of the OS.

As posted earlier this post is 0% helpful as you didn't post a logcat like instructed.

This is 100% froyo there is no kernel source for .32 for us and its a bit** to try to foward port all of lg's changes and rewrite them. Its a possiblity but in distant future. My 2.6.29.6 kernel is a hybrid of .29/32 anyway. Without it we can't use built-in tethering options for froyo and we would need newer wifi firmware too that we still wouldn't have.

this is something im very interested in, waiting for a final version with instructions before i try. also i have no data connection/phone service only wifi connection, will this rom have wifi?

From my understanding, wifi currently doesn't work on any of the builds made thus far.

Maybe I missed it somewhere but when I wen to download the rom aosp10 it redirects me to mediafire and it says its a password protected file, does someone have the password?

Yep thats where it takes you and the password is the same as the aosp8.zip post, getitnowmarketing.

Take caution with flashing as it's not 100% ready for everyday use as stated above.

Hello again!

Not sure if anyone's built-in usb or wireless tethering is working, but mine isn't (which is cool, no complaints, you all are doing amazing work on this!)

But, if it's not working for everyone yet, i've found a workaround for the time being. Tried loading barnacle and using it, but it kept throwing errors at me. To fix it, I went to root explorer, navigated to /system/etc/ , longpressed the file init.qcom.sdio.sh , selected the permissions option, and checked all of the unchecked checkboxes, giving everyone/everything full read/write/execute permissions for the file.

I then went to Barnacle, hit menu, and checked the option "Skip wpa_supplicant"

After doing this, I was able to tether my laptop wirelessly.

Hope this helps!

[Edit]
You can grab the Barnacle installer, Barnacle.apk, from the Velocity 0.3 installer under data/app/ . It's all zipped, so just extract it to your phone's sd card, then run it from root manager

Does anyone feel like uploading aosp11 with wireless and keys working now that it sounds like those bugs have been fixed?
Also does anyone have source for *.30 kernel "the real froyo one" I've got quite a bit of experience compiling linux kernels I'd like to give a new one a shot.
