Root Froyo Development

My ally is my only source of Internet, I tether my laptop to it every day using PdaNet over USB. i would like to try the aosp roms because I am dissatisfied with the stock LG/Verizon builds, but I need either PdaNet to work or the built in wireless tethering to be rock solid. What say ye?

Or you could flash ANY of the custom ROMs or just root and install Barnacle for wireless tethering. Froyo is not required for wireless tethering.

My keyboard and front button backlights only work for the first fifteen minutes or so after I flash the rom. It has done this for every aosp build, is there a fix for this?

Out of curiosity, did you flash the Gingerbread for Froyo theme? I did notice that when I did so a few ASOP builds ago, it did the same thing to me. My guess was that the Gingerbread for Froyo theme breaks the back-light fix. This, in combinitation with the black text on black background within all 'more' menus made me decide to hold off on the Gingerbread theme for a bit.

I made that theme and in the thread it states its for a specific build. It is not to be applied to any other build. Sorry.

Thanks for the tip on Barnacle, works good. The WPA supplicant doesn't load though which is kind of irritating, but I can live with WEP I guess.

Still want app2sd, does that work on the beta Froyo builds?

Yes. froyos built in apps2sd works.

there are apps that cannot move, apps that will not move. I highly recommend using the app SDMove - Android app on AppBrain to check which apps can be moved. Its sister app SDWatch - Android app on AppBrain watches for when you install an app and notifies you if it can be moved.

- even apps that SDMove says can be moved may not be able to be moved. For example, many ROMs include free versions of apps that don't load into the normal user mem, but load instead into the /system space. If an app that can normally be moved to the SDCard is loaded in /system then it will not be able to be moved - even if it prefers being on the SDCard.

I have a custom built for ally wireless-tether for root users(I built it from source) pre installed on froyo. It works and works well. Don't use barnacle if you dont have to.

YES YOU DO!! LOL ...

From me (just your avg. modify~er of the Ally) I tether often and Drell's Tether app works flawless...haven't touched (actually uninstalled) Barnical and PDANet.

Thanks Drell*

*Is, "Drell" an appropriate nickname? ...I have no clue...lemme know what u like to be called...or name yu prefer.

Please..thxs

OK here is a newer build. Aosp30

More updated gapps here I made. Its unsigned. gapps-hdpi-20101229-unsigned.zip If you want to use newer market 2.2.6 (not included) works if you 1st setup/signin orig market and then power off and flash 2.2.6 via recovery. Market 2.2.7 does not seem to work on aosp roms currently.

Changes:
New kernel
Added smarta$$ governor.
Updated Interactive gov.
Now using BFQ I/O & CFS
GPU FPS up ~ 3fps as tested in neocore
Fixed vold at kernel lvl and removed userspace hack.
Updated .32 kernel low mem killer backport.

Changed webcore engine from v8 back to javascript with jit.
MTD's are now mounted noatime to hopefully speed up I/O.
All binaries are compiler tuned to processor.

I'm sure I forgot a few changes :(

I just saw this. but why is the latest gapps unsigned?

I was just wondering if the gps wasworking cause I use that a craploadd for my job. But who knows if I should even install it cause I fell off while I was longboarding and shattered the shit out of my screen and I gotta get the 50 dollars for my damn insurance

Just turn off signing and install anyways...why as pointlessness? lol

and for the post above me...why long board with a phone on you? and if you use your phone for work dont use a testing rom such as this one!

On topic, mmmk - always ok to open other threads for other interesting chats.

Devs count on high signal-to-noise to work with everyone on this.

Cheers, thanksAlot.

I have swapped over from Velocity .4 to aosp30 and while performance is faster. I don't believe it's running as smooth as aosp23. It often feels sluggish. I don't have a task killer as I think that you do not need one for Froyo. Am I correct on that or would it be advisable to get one?

Its never advisable to get or use a task killer.

Ha well I just took out my phone for a second but then I hit a rock and flew backwards and my phone just flew straight up and smashed the screen. I have no scratches at all on my phone either... sucks ass ha but thank you for the help!

I noticed that same sluggishness as you. Apps still ran fine but it was mostly UI sluggishness, like opening the app drawer, or going through the system settings, or browsing the sd card in Astro, or File Manager.

A new era has emerged!!!

If you didn't catch it thats CM7 on ally. I'm going to sit on it for a bit waiting for Lg to release froyo for a newer kernel source and newer proprietary libs that I'll need.
