Froyo EC05 (DI18 users - Install instructions post 39)!

Sorry for the NOOB question guys.....

After the update, my phone is not recognizing my USB cable plugged in. Any tips on how to mount my phone? :X

Nevermind guys, I'm a noob! Just chose the option 'Mass Storage' when prompted and I was able to transfer musicz over =0).

I just had a short twitter convo with @sprintcare and he told me that it the EB13 users SHOULD get an update today. He also sent me this link Sprint Community: 3/21 - Samsung Epic Maintenance Release...
Note the update in red.

It's nearly 5:00pm on the West Coast, and still, nothing. I'll believe it when I see it and I'll post when and if I get the OTA for EB05

FWIW, my phone worked just fine on DI18 (the last version of Eclair). Since Sprint pushed EB13 to my phone I've had nothing but problems. My battery life is hosed. My compass doesn't work at all. My phone force closes many applications at the worst times. Now entering text is a major pain and the gui is extremely messed up and buggy no matter what browser I use. I'm using my pc to write this because I'm tired of trying to input text on my broken Epic. My phone freezes. I've had to take the battery out of the phone and put it back in to un-freeze the phone. I never had to do this before.

I read many posts from users of EB13 on the thread linked above who are very angry at Sprint too. We deserve to have our phones fixed by Sprint since they messed them up.

Samsung sends the updates to Sprint. Sprint gives it to their developers so that they can add all of Sprint's proprietary crapware into the update. Once the Sprint developers have deemed the update "bug free" they push it.

This is Sprint's fault. I'm holding Sprint accountable if this isn't fixed.

I don't want to root. I have no interest in rooting. I shouldn't have to root. I don't want to void my warrantee. I don't really know much at all about rooting or developing on my phone and I don't want to take the time to learn because my phone should just work out of the box when it is sold to me. I don't have time to teach myself all about rooting and development. I'm a very busy man.

I shouldn't have to wipe my phone clean of my own personal information to fix something that Sprint did to my phone.

You can call my lazy all you want. As a customer I deserve a phone that works as it is when it is sold to me. I deserve updates that actually fix problems instead of making things worse and adding more problems. I shouldn't have to work harder than Sprint to fix problems that they caused on my phone. These are my rights as a paying customer. Sprint didn't give me a free phone as a development phone to test their latest faulty software. I bought a phone from Sprint with the reasonable expectation that it would work and that any updates to my phone wouldn't cripple my phone.

This isn't too much to ask. We pay these people. It's not the other way around.

Are you crazy? Really? Just march yourself to a sprint store and have them restore you to eclair. I think a class action suit over software upgrades will fail and is ridiculous. It's not a great thing to have happen, but if theyre having issues going from eb to ec and that ruined your phone, you'd probably go even more nuts.

FYI, sprint will not restore your phone to eclair. They will exchange your phone for a refurbished one that still has eclair on it. And that can result in a whole lot of other issues. And yes, I am speaking from experience.

After receiving the update, has any one tested video recording specifically in low-light situations to see if the reduced frame rate and laggy quality have been improved since EB13.

I had the exact same issue on EB13 and on EC05, it seems to be a lot better. It is definitely a big improvement over it on EB13.

I received the update at 1am this morning. After the install, I was awoken by my epic playing "have a holly jolly Christmas" and then another random song that has come on whenever it wants to throughout the day! ugh. I came to this forum to see if anyone is having this issue since the update hit and for any help.

The song randomly plays for 4-5 seconds or continually whenever it wants. MAKING the song stop is interesting as well, you can click anything and nothing happens UNLESS you pull the top menu bar down, once you go to swipe it down the music stops.
Thanks sprint, thanks samsung FTW

B1zzle, did someone hack into your phone? I ask because I thought someone had done it to me this past week. My phone went berzerk and it started opening browser windows and copying bookmarks onto my home page. The only thing that stopped it was taking out the battery. I tried hitting all sorts of buttons. Then I was forced to yank the battery in desperation. It worked and I haven't had problems like it since. Could it just be the gift of EB13 that just keeps on giving?

2300 hrs. (11:00pm) in California and I still have nothing. Sprint has 1 hour left in this day here to fix my phone. If I don't see a fix then, I'd call it another EPIC FAIL!!!

You realize that Sprint in Sprint community said "today" days ago as well? And the sprint twitter people are PUBLIC RELATIONS people with no connection whatsoever to anyone in product tech or testing?
By the way that says this:
The OTA push for EB13 users has been started and should reach your devices today. If
I can tell you for a fact that not one single EB13 user got an OTA for EC10. They don't have it working.

So true. I called Sprint about an unrelated issue and they wanted to send me another phone. I told them they could as long as it's not a refurb. They said, " Our refurbished units are as good as our new ones".
I told them "How can you let me pay xxx.xx for a new phone just a month ago and now you want to replace it with a refurb?"

My second question created havoc and a disconnected call.
I asked them if they sent me a refurb if I would receive a discounted price for my first phone and cash back or store credit? DIAL TONE....:D
We all know refurbs are sold for way less......

They i.e Sprint or Samsung will blame the users. If it was not for user input these companies would not survive. They depend on the consumers input to help them improve service and product.
Since I've read complaints about Sprint and Samsung not doing their part, confuses me.
Why do we not blame Google? They made Eclair and Froyo.

If your computer crashes you instinctively blame the operating system and not your computer, Correct?

I know that Samsung and Sprint add their touches but so do computer manufaturers. So would it be wrong to start calling and emailing Goolge with your issues also?
When you read the forum complaints it all reverts to the operating system. I read people say this caused a problem so I RESET my phone and it was fixed, etc.
If the phone turns on and operates normal, How can you blame the phone?
Now you have to blame the operating system.

FFT (food for thought)

;)

Spoke to a knowledgeable guy at the repair store. He said they're doing it in slower waves to reduce traffic in the repair stores since they are having to fix upgrades. He said they have been able to do so but Sprint is starting and stopping the push to see how each batch goes. He fully expected all phones to get it besides DK28, but the timetable has expanded and that it is going in version order of DI18, then EB13 when DI18 push is nearly complete. Don't know how true it is but fits the pattern we see.

I was just relaying what I was told...

It's 21h20 (9:20pm) Pacific time on 3/26/2011 the day after the alleged update. I'm still stuck running EB13 that cripples my phone. I had to pull the battery yet again to get the phone out of a freeze again today. OK, Sprint, where's my fix?

I am having some randon music play as well every 2-4 hrs.If you find the solution please advise. I was told that we might have to do a hard reset.

I have an epic with froyo EC05 and I almost like the stock version better. All the icons suck, the music icon is pink/purple. There isnt a music player widget anymore which sucks, and the blue and yellow speech bubbles on the messages are a real eyesore. Not to mention its hella laggy, and some of my apps no longer work. Oh and since yesterday my messages have been perpetually "sending" with no avail.

This shouldnt of been an automatic update imo (to froyo)

I've had enough. 14 years on Sprint and this is just an inexcusable disaster -- especially after they had the nerve to initially charge an extra $50 for a phone they can't support.

Sent a message to Sprint support. Either trade straight-up for a Nexus S or wave goodbye. The Epic 4G is a lost cause, no matter how good the hardware. After the ATT-TMO deal, Sprint just can't afford to lose any more subscribers. Mind boggling.

Say what you will about Apple, they do *not* have these support problems, nor do they impose crapware on you. The only alternative on Sprint is the Nexus S, where it's straight Google. Everything else is at the mercy of Sprint and the handset manufacturer.
