I just had a short twitter convo with @sprintcare and he told me that it the EB13 users SHOULD get an update today. He also sent me this link
Sprint Community: 3/21 - Samsung Epic Maintenance Release...
Note the update in red.
It's nearly 5:00pm on the West Coast, and still, nothing. I'll believe it when I see it and I'll post when and if I get the OTA for EB05
FWIW, my phone worked just fine on DI18 (the last version of Eclair). Since Sprint pushed EB13 to my phone I've had nothing but problems. My battery life is hosed. My compass doesn't work at all. My phone force closes many applications at the worst times. Now entering text is a major pain and the gui is extremely messed up and buggy no matter what browser I use. I'm using my pc to write this because I'm tired of trying to input text on my broken Epic. My phone freezes. I've had to take the battery out of the phone and put it back in to un-freeze the phone. I never had to do this before.
I read many posts from users of EB13 on the thread linked above who are very angry at Sprint too. We deserve to have our phones fixed by Sprint since they messed them up.
Samsung sends the updates to Sprint. Sprint gives it to their developers so that they can add all of Sprint's proprietary crapware into the update. Once the Sprint developers have deemed the update "bug free" they push it.
This is Sprint's fault. I'm holding Sprint accountable if this isn't fixed.
I don't want to root. I have no interest in rooting. I shouldn't have to root. I don't want to void my warrantee. I don't really know much at all about rooting or developing on my phone and I don't want to take the time to learn because my phone should just work out of the box when it is sold to me. I don't have time to teach myself all about rooting and development. I'm a very busy man.
I shouldn't have to wipe my phone clean of my own personal information to fix something that Sprint did to my phone.
You can call my lazy all you want. As a customer I deserve a phone that works as it is when it is sold to me. I deserve updates that actually fix problems instead of making things worse and adding more problems. I shouldn't have to work harder than Sprint to fix problems that they caused on my phone. These are my rights as a paying customer. Sprint didn't give me a free phone as a development phone to test their latest faulty software. I bought a phone from Sprint with the reasonable expectation that it would work and that any updates to my phone wouldn't cripple my phone.
This isn't too much to ask. We pay these people. It's not the other way around.
