Endmao just informed me about new kernels by Slayher: Froyo Kernels by slayher - CyanogenMod Forum

He says they're running really well and have a new "interactive governor." I'm getting ready to DL and try myself!

Thanks endmao!

UPDATE: I tried these kernels. The 1200 LV and SV wouldn't boot, but the 1100 booted up just fine. However, it caused Goggles to FC (as did the P3Droid kernel I had been using) -- ChevyNo1's kernel does not cause this issue, however.

2ND UPDATE: Slayher has a module that needs to be inserted to fix the Goggles problem so I'm going to try his 1100mhz kernel again. Also, this is what he says about interactive governor:

"The CPUfreq governor "interactive" is designed for low latency,
interactive workloads. This governor sets the CPU speed depending on
usage, similar to "ondemand" and "conservative" governors. However
there is no polling, or 'sample_rate' required to scale the CPU up.

Sampling CPU load every X ms can lead to under powering the CPU
for X ms, leading to dropped framerate, stuttering UI etc..

Scaling the CPU up is done when coming out of idle, and like "ondemand"
scaling up will always go to MAX, then step down based off of cpu load.

There is only one tuneable value for this governor:

min_sample_time: The ammount of time the CPU must spend (in uS)
at the current frequency before scaling DOWN. This is done to
more accurately determine the cpu workload and the best speed for that
workload. The default is 50ms."

3RD UPDATE: I'm really digging this slayer 1100 LV kernel. In fact, I've run the 1.1Ghz LV kernels from ChevyNo1, P3Droid and now slayher on my current ROM (Liquid Frozen Yogurt v1.4) and I'm averaging Quadrant scores of about 100 higher on slayher's (in interactive mode) than my average scores for Chevy or P3 (in ondemand mode). And, forgetting the benchmark, my phone is running cooler, feels smoother and snappier and is rock stable. Amazing!

I feel ya, buddy! My Droid is really picky, too. I tried every kernel listed in this thread of 1.0Ghz and above. None of the ULV kernels would boot. The couple of jdflg kernels I got to boot showed 0% battery. Most LV kernels wouldn't boot or were unstable. The Chevy 1.2Ghz MV kernel (which I could run just fine on my Droid in the pre-Froyo incarnations--although I couldn't run any LV kernels of any kind pre-Froyo) was unstable. After trying all of them, the only kernel of the bunch that I can run with no heat, battery or performance issues is Chevy's 1.1Ghz LV.

Interesting, my phone idles cooler with the chevy 1.1 ulv than with the 1.0ulv, 08ulv or the P3 900lv. I guess each phone has its sweet spot. Seems like Chevys 1.1ulv is a winner for me. We'll see how it passes the test of time.

**Update. The phone rebooted while opening and app with the chevy ulv and would not load weatherbug properly so I have gone to a P3 900LV kernal and it seems fine. The P3 1100lv also had a problem loading weatherbug.

Ultra, low, and standard voltages. Battery drain can be less with ULV/LV since less power is used.

Thanks for the answer on kernel voltages, and thanks for not treating my question like it cam from someone with brain damage.

does anybody else feel like the slayher kernel is eating battery like crazy? i'm using the updated version of his 1.2ghz kernel and batt seems to be dying faster than chevy's ULV 1.2ghz. i'm only trying slayher because the interactive governor sounds really nice. but i might have to change it back to chevy's.

I'm running Slayher 1.2 for a few days now.. The batt life isn't too bad. I have to charge about once a day..

I have only heard of one other person having issues with battery life, and I suspect his issue was due to some profiles he had.

I will give you this. The interactive gov is kinda between the performance and the ondemand. So if you are doing alot on your phone, or constantly playing it battery life may go down. I did compile all the available governors into the kernel though. So if you dont like the battery life you are getting from interactive, conservative and ondemand are there also.

Slayher, I tried using your kernel with the watermark'd lithium mod rom and was getting the reboot when using either wi-fi or wireless tether. Wi-fi isn't a big deal but I use wireless tether a lot. Is there an update coming that will fix the issue. I'm currently running a p3 kernel and both wi-fi and wireless tether are working fine.

When did you try this, and which version of the kernel was it? If it you haven't tried the v1.6 try that and see if that works.

Alot of people have reported better wifi performance from 1.6

Hey all, I just rooted recently(bout 4 days now) using the sticky here. I was coming from 2.2 ota. I rooted and used the FRG22 build in the intructions. I havent yet done any flashing of any other kernel or rom. Im trying to get a better understanding of kernals by reading through this thread.

Before I thought kernels came with the particular rom you are running, but now i think im reading that you can run different kernals with diff roms? Mix n match type deal where you use what works for you best?

Since rooting my batt has been draining pretty quick. I know going from stock batt to rooted is gonna be a difference, but is having to charge a few times a day normal?

I downloaded setcpu and have my speed at 700 right now(had it at 8 but took it down some). For screen off speed i set it to the lowest in an attemp to save batt.
My current kernal is 2.6.32.9-g103d848android-cuild@apa26#1 is this old/new?

Another question: Are there current kernals that run better/worse with specific roms? And is there any other download that can be used besides kernals and roms that you can use to modify your system?

Oh yea, I thought that when rooted you can delete unwanted stock apps. I tried to delete twitter(im not one to twat that much) and it still wont perform the uninstallation. any steps to deleting stock apps that i need to take?

The last kernel i tried was the 1100lv v1.5. I'll try the new 1.6. Thanks.

You're asking a LOT of questions here! Kernels do come with the ROM you're running, and it seems like these days, most are at about 800mhz. If you want to go higher, you need to install a higher-speed kernel. All those posted or linked to in this thread are compatible with any Froyo ROM.

As for which ones are best with which ROMs, there's really no good answer to that. Every Droid is different and responds differently to different speeds and voltages, and may even respond differently to the same kernels on different ROMs. You just have to try some for yourself and see how they work for you.

You can delete stock apps that you don't want when you're rooted, but you can't uninstall them in the same way as Market apps. The easiest way, for me, is to use Root Explorer (available in the Market for a couple of bucks -- and it's well worth it for the convenience it provides), go to /system/app, tap the "Mount R/W" button at the top and long-press on the app you want to delete and delete it (then touch "R/O" at the top when you're finished). A word of caution here -- it's a really good idea to save a copy of the app you're deleting to your SD card before you delete it, so you can easily put it back if you find that you shouldn't have deleted it. Also, it's a good idea to do a backup of your ROM before you start deleting, in case something you delete wreaks havoc.

A WORD ABOUT THE POLL: I see that slayher has been added, but the poll has not been reset so that those of us who love the slayher kernels, but have already voted, can cast our votes for slayher.

I want to make it clear that if I could vote at this time, my vote would without doubt be cast for slayher.

There, I voted for myself, maybe that will help :D lol

Trident is going to reset the poll for us. Sorry I meant to get it done last week but ended up going out of town for most of the week and forgot about it.

Slayher,

I seem to be having the same issue. I am also using Watermark'd theme but on CM6 RC3, I've tried all versions of the kernels including the new 1.6. I tried what you recommended in your thread on CM Forums, which was to shut down wifi before flashing. This did work! I got the kernel flashed and began doing things to test its snappiness. After about 15 minutes, I turned my wifi on. My phone ran really laggy for about 20 seconds then shut down and began bootlooping. I had to reflash a P3 kernel.

I'm not sure what the issue is, I'll try connecting to someone else's wifi to see if my router is affecting my outcomes.

RC3 Had known Issues with Wifi. Update to a nightly, thats all I can really suggest.
