hey guys im new to all these rooting stuff. i just rooted my droid recently and currently runnign petes latest bb rom. i see that my max cpu speed is 800 mhz ( setcpu). my question is, in order to get hgiher frequencies, do i just d/l one of the kernels from the 1st post and flash the update through recovery boot/rom manager? sorry for the noob question and thanks in advance!

Yes, the stock kernel in BB is 800mhz, so if you want more, you need to use a higher Mhz kernel. My advice is to download a selection of different voltages and speeds because every Droid is different in terms of what works. You install them as zip files (in ClockworkMod recovery, which you should have if you're using ROM Manager, you don't need to rename the zip file). If you go into bootloop with a selected kernel, just use Power + X to boot back into recovery and try another one.

thanks a lot! more reasons to slack off at work now :D! anything particular you recommend?

ohh noss i just flashed one of the jdflg kernels and it just DRAINED my battery upon boot up. its at 0%. is that normal?

def. will try somethign else, but does that mean my battery currently right now is completely drained? or if i flash another kernel it will bring my battery back to what it was?

I couldn't even get the jdflg kernels to boot up on my phone, so I'm not actually sure, but I believe it's a failure of the kernel to properly read your battery level, not an actual drainage of the battery.

ah i see. thanks. thank goodness for nandroid restore. aint trying that kernel ever again!

Just FYI, I don't think there was any reason to do a Nandroid restore. Just boot into recovery and install a different kernel.

good point, but my phone kept dying everytime it was started up, and im at work usign a usb charger, so its not charging fast enough for me to be able to browse the web to look for another kernel. it kept turning off after the phone loaded evenw ith the usb plugged in.

Oh, I understand -- that's why I suggested that you download a number of different kernel options to your SD card before you start trying new kernels out. I have a folder called Froyo Kernels on my SD card for this purpose.

good advice. yea i was gonna dl a whole bunch of kernels before flashing, but one of my co workers was amazed that my droid was rooted so he wanted to see it being overclocked so he was overexcited lol. but thanks for everything.

chances are good that you downloaded a 2.1 kernel rather than froyo, I did it too because the list wasn't organized well. Look for a kernel named "jdlfg.1200.v.32.2.0.zip". The 32 shows that it is built for froyo and the 2 is the version number... This set is built from asop code.

I searched and didn't find a separate thread dedicated to all the kernels available for Froyo, so I'm posting what Ive found in doing my research.

There are the jdflg kernels that redflea told us about here:

For ChevyNo1 (ULV/LV/MV):

For P3Droid (use those specifically for Froyo):

Jake's Froyo Kernels:

A Bekit (test) kernel for Froyo has now been posted. From his Twitter (2:50 PM Jun 25th):

"For those who have asked, here is a test .32 kernel for Froyo Droid builds - http://bit.ly/aoRUqR I will work on more features next week!"
New kernel choices up to 1.4Ghz by TopQuark that inssane told us about here:

If you know of any others, post them in this thread and I'll add them to the OP.

I was extremely happy with Kangerade 5.0.9 and had heard alot about chevy's kernels. So I downloaded his 1.25 ghz kernel and it changed my Froyo. I had a different boot screen, my drop down menues were no longer clear. When I ran set CPU it only detected 800 mhz. Battery life plumits on chevys kernel when it hits 70% then almost instantly it jumps to 50% and then the next thing you know.. 5%

Changing the kerrnel shouldn't have any effect on your boot screen or drop down menues. I've tried just about every Froyo kernel and, with respect to those that booted up, not one changed those items.

does anyone know if jake has any new kernals that work with wifi? i am getting remarkable speeds with his 1.2 but wifi is a must for me! thanks

i just uploaded Chevy's ULV 1.0Ghz (was using his LV before) but when I look at my phone Kernal info it says:
2.6.32-lowV-1.0 Ghz
should it say ULV?
I just want to be sure I have the right one loaded. It says ULV on my SD card when I upload via ROM Manager.
thanks

it should say "2.6.32-ulowV-1.2Ghz
chevyno1@ubuntu #4"

I have the ultra low voltage 1.2

Chevy 1.2 ULV
30 minutes of use + 9.5 hours of standby = 70% battery left.
WOW

My JuiceDefender widget shows x2.55 and I have never gotten beyond x2.2

It heats up too much in the car and reboots :(
Went back to Jake's kernel = poor battery life

Now I wanted to try Chevy 1.2 ULV and LV again and the replacement Droid won't take it!!! :(

I feel ya, buddy! My Droid is really picky, too. I tried every kernel listed in this thread of 1.0Ghz and above. None of the ULV kernels would boot. The couple of jdflg kernels I got to boot showed 0% battery. Most LV kernels wouldn't boot or were unstable. The Chevy 1.2Ghz MV kernel (which I could run just fine on my Droid in the pre-Froyo incarnations--although I couldn't run any LV kernels of any kind pre-Froyo) was unstable. After trying all of them, the only kernel of the bunch that I can run with no heat, battery or performance issues is Chevy's 1.1Ghz LV.

Updated the OP for the P3Droid kernels made for Sapphire ROMs, which have been reported to be working on other ROMs, as well.

http://p3designs.info/sapphire/

EDIT: Although these kernels SAY they are only for Sapphire, I've now tried them with BB V0.4 and can confirm that the 1.1Ghz SV and LV both worked (1.2 SV booted but was unstable, 1.2 LV wouldn't boot) for me, and Pete's CPU scaling worked with them, as well. I ran the cpuinfo script, which showed 125Mhz min available, but 250Mhz min applied, which shows that Pete's 250 min from the install-recovery.sh file was applied to the kernel.

UPDATE: I ran the P3Droid 1.1Ghz LV Sapphire kernel for about a day and, while the speeds and stability were comparable to the ChevyNo1 1.1Ghz LV kernel, the P3 kernel ran quite a bit hotter, even at idle, than Chevy's and I couldn't get a CPU clock speed reading in System Panel (which I have to admit, really bugged me). I'm back with Chevy.

I am just used to my Droid being a whore and taking whatever I give to it, so long as it's not too big >1250. :D

I almost had a meltdown in the car today when the phone went into a reboot loop while navigating somewhere. 30 minutes of flashing 10 different kernels I keep on my SD - then finally a restore and a shaky startup for 10 minutes. Then I got to go home.

My phone will never know how close it came to becoming part of the pavement today. Just don't say anthing. :)

It really amazes me how mod for mod it comes down to hardware and each phone is a bit different.
