Froyo on Hero!

the only way that SenseUI will be included in a Froyo ROM for the Hero is... a Dev would have to take it from something like the Evo and then port it over to our phone. will it happen? maybe but don't hold your breath waiting for it. for now, give it a whirl without SenseUI... I REALLY like SenseUI.. but not having it hasn't killed me. besides you can always have a nandroid of your current ROM on hand and flip back and forth at will

What home replacements and other launchers are available for the Froyo build? Stock android just annoys me, I can't stand it lol. And I'd like to try out Froyo again, but want it to at least look more refined

Adw launcher comes with, and launcherpro works too. I like both, although lp seems to be alittle more user friendly

Alright, so what's the most recent instructions for flashing, because the links in the IRC seem to kind of be all over the place lol. Is it just flashing the ROM, or are there a bunch of fixes to flash yet also?

Nope, just flash one of the google shits zips after the initial reboot, so you can set up your google acct.
I did the 85 one, not sure if there has been an update to it or not...

here is the google shits that are in the op

I have a uh... 610 Discovery and it says it supports hands free profiles so....... Also it even tells me in the instructions how to do a voice dial call.

give it a shot..if it works great!!! I'll wait til the end of the year and get a ICON

I have to say I am very impressed with FROYO on my Hero. The only thing I would change is the FC on market and the camera/video issues, but its really smooth and fast. I played with Fresh but I am really happy with froyo. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

nope... it's all FAT32

So that means the apps would show up in windows, whereas right now they won't due to them being ext3 or whatever?

Do the apps automatically go to the card when flashing Froyo and installing new apps, or is there an apps2SD fix that has to be flashed first?

You have to go into settings, cyanogenmod settings, then app settings, and you get the option to install new apps to external storage. I don't use it, so I am pretty sure (not positive) that you need to do it before you restore your apps after the initial install. FWIW, with all my apps loaded, I still have 99mb internal free....

Ok, I was just curious. I still haven't gotten around to flashing Froyo lol. I'll probably do it at work when I get bored tomorrow.

I don't have enough apps for apps2sd to make much of a difference anyway, but it's worth playing with some days

Just wanted to chime in and subscribe to this thread.

I initially downloaded an alpha version and it would either not boot up, or get a ton of FC's, so I tossed it for a week while on vacation. Came back and downloaded the newest update "RC0" from the IRC link, booted up fine, no FC's yet.

Battery doesnt seem to be better, I will know for sure after a couple of days of running it. It does seem smoother on first use, but after bogging it down with Pandora or a few other apps, it gets very laggy.

Kudos to the devs working on this, cant wait for a fully working release.

I flashed it last night, and played around for 15 minutes before running my nandroid, I forgot to even try the voice dial.

I dunno, I'm just so happy with the way my phone runs right now I just can't see using anything else, I even went back to 2.1.2 after the Fresh 2.3.3 update because I like the way it runs so well.

Maybe if Flipz does a sense based port of it i'll check it out...

OK, read more on XDA and IRC, seems RC0 is being deemed a step backward from Test 5 which I cannot find, so I just flashed Test 4. Will update tomorrow on experience.

I played with test 4 last night since that's the build the IRC folks recommended. It's alright. That's it for me, just alright. Turns out I really do like the Sense UI over all the others I have tried. I will patiently wait for a Sense build of Froyo before I get all excited over it.

I just miss the HTC People app, the native Android Contacts app doesn't really do it for me. I did find an app called SyncMyPix that will grab Facebook pics for your contacts. What's everyone using as the camera replacement to get previews?

N/M on the camera app

So today's adventure led us through Santa Monica, Venice, and Hollywood. My phone died just as we came up on the movie premiere of SALT and Brangelina were walking by.

So to recap, using Test $, phone left the charger full at 10 AM, completely died by 7-730 PM. Way not as good as my previous ROM (Fresh 2.1.2)

I used Camera Magic to post up a few pics that I got, but it wouldnt stick the rotation edit to Facebook, and they still came out sideways.

I really really like this ROM, the keyboard, voice input integration, and just how smoothly things run when needed. Its a shame that it is definitely a battery hog. Using spare parts, and Android settings menu, it doesnt really have anything keeping it awake, or using more than normal CPU, it just dies.

Still cant wait for the final release!

In the screen settings I noticed that my default setting was not set for auto brightness, changing that greatly improved my batter life thus far, and the screen timeout was set for one minute as well

running test4 I got a total of 7.5 hours on a charge..that was with JIT enabled. as a comparison, on Fresh 2.3.3 I can go 26 hours and still have 10% left.. Today I'll try RC0 along with a battery tweak that adjusts the polling and see how it goes
