Froyo RUU update available

If you boot into recovery and pick nandroid and pick backup, it'll backup everything on the phone into /sdcard/clockworkmod/ so when you go back to restore it and choose the location it'll be in that directory. I copied it to my PC and zipped it for storage.

when i boot into recovery i get a pic of the phone with a red triangle and a !. if i plug it into the computer it says the driver was not properly installed. What am i doing wrong?
 
Oh interesting I hope that's not a brick, you boot into recovery by holding down the volume down button while pressing the power on button and pick recovery with the volume rocker and power button to accept, it should boot into it. Something's up if you're still getting that.

not bricked...i can pull the battery and phone boots to home no problem.

Nope same thing. there is some message that flashes before i can select recovery. it goes quickly but mentions something about no image found or something along those lines.

first line of the message is SD Checking.... and then something about no image found

BTW...my phone is not rooted.
 
i have a couple of questions before i attempt this:
what ota updates will i be offered; telus or stock?
does my phone have to be unlocked to do this?
will my phone work properly on the telus hspa network?

my phone is a locked, telus branded unit.

i tried this process and it worked out fine, but my data connectivity doesnt work anymore, no 3G? any ideas?

Also, i am trying to restore my settings, but i cant find the privacy tab in setting. i was told to click on the "setting" in search tab, and then use the hard key (bottom right) to search for privacy. but all i get is the google voice search. and if i use the google search type, it cant find the privacy setting... any ideas on that too?

check your apn settings. (settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks/access point names). if your telus info isnt there, press menu and set up a new apn with the following settings:
NAME: TELUS SP
APN: sp.telus.com
PROXY: 74.49.0.18
PORT: 80
USER NAME: <NOT SET>
PASSWORD: <NOT SET>
SERVER: <NOT sET>
MMSC: http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mmsc
MMS PROXY: 74.49.0.18
MMS PORT: 80
MMS PROTOCOL: WAP 2.0
MCC: 302
MNC: 220
AUTHENTICATION TYPE: NONE
APN TYPE: *
 
Big thanks to the contributors in this thread. I am now rocking 2.2 after following the steps outlined. I had an unlocked Telus on 2.1.

Just need to create my backup gold card. Loving it so far. :)

Hi all
Hoping someone here can help as I've searched the net unsuccessfully. I completed the update to 2.2 following the instructions in this thread. Since then my facebook notifications haven't been coming through as you would expect. For example I am only notified of the first response to a my status update, similarly If I comment on a friend's status I'm only notified of the next comment, I am not notified of all further responses. I am using the android facebook app, bloo and tweetdeck for android and get the same problem. The only place my notifications are correct is on the touch site. Could this be a problem with froyo? Any help would really be appreciated

I`m on Orange and followed the instruction and within 10 minutes I went from 1.21 to 2.2 with no problems.

anyone? I'd like to try this but I want to be sure that my phone is still going to work on my network properly.

Thank you, with the settings you provided, phone is working fine now. so i think you answered your own question...

this will work on a branded locked and unrooted telus desire...
 
I cant seem to understand one thing here ......

There is this thread at XDA developers that suggests a way to install "Rooted HCT Desire 2.2 ROM" from a rooted 2.1.. ...... which seems to work perfectly expect few issues .......

The question is ....

When the developers have this rooted official 2.2 ROM with them why can'nt we have the procedure to root the official OTA 2.2 ...... ???? After all the ROM they have created is based on the same OTA official 2.2 update????

Can someone plz clear this for me ...

hes got standard android/htc recovery and not a custom one.

I used the first one you posted a few weeks ago. what are the benefits of the updated radio etc you mentioned?

The updated radio is improved for most people (better signals). There are no details about the changes in the ROM itself.

There's no guarantee that this ROM will be released officially, it could be skipped for a later update.
 
I have a question? I purchased a Telus unlocked desire the A8182 and then flashed the rom that is on the first page and after checking the phone identity it now says that it is the HTC Desire A8181??? has anyone else had this happen with their phone and would this newest ROM possibly return it to the A8182???

Lastly would it be a improvement to flash this latest rom on my phone, when I start it up it takes a minute or so to get the signal from AT&T???

The a8182 is a HSDPA/WCDMA: 850/1900 MHz
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

The a8181 is a HSDPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

Does flashing the RUU change the operating frequency of the a8182 to that of the a8181? If it does change the operating frequency, then flashing to the stock RUU may not be a good idea, especially for Telus users as their 3G+ network runs on the 1900/850 MHz frequency bands. I apologize if I sound paranoid, but I want to be 100% certain that this will not have any negative effects before I install, because as i read it, i wont have the option to go back after i flash.

edit: AT&T also uses the 850/1900 MHz frequency bands.

Is this the unbranded one?
Is it official/unmodified like the first one? I guess so being an RUU...?

is this safe to use on an O2 UK Desire as before?

Yes to everything. Though if you installed the O2 froyo RUU (2.14.something) then you can't install this directly.

From what I have tested no it did not change the bands in the phone because when I put the phone into GSM only it connects to AT&T 850 Edge network and when set to WCDMA only it connects to the 1900 3G bands so no it does not change the bands just the markings from A8182 to A8181 this is very strange at best.
