Root Full 4G signal but Data not working?

Metro has been doing tower upgrades. Ive had 0 data not even 1x for the past 3 weeks but now i have 4g everywhere i used to get 1x.
 
I have been losing 4g since 2 days ago it has been falling back to 3g I guess they are doing something or maintenance
 
Okay. First there is no "full" 4G signal. It's just 4G on or off. The service indicator is separate from the 4G. So you do have a 4G icon present right? I think Metro has been messing with the network lately as I've been having issues off and on. When I have 4G issues I dial *228 option 5 and reset the PRL. Works every time. Other than that give Metro a call and see what you can find out. It's prolly on their side.

Wouldn't hurt. I know it wouldn't be an issue with the phone or with a ROM or anything. It's def on Metro's end. They are supposed to be upgrading their data network this year so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people continue having issues. For 10Mb Ill have issues all day long :D

Oddly enough I was at work 11hours during which my 4g worked but it switched from 4g to 1tx. I for one have not seen 1tx on the esteem. So I went about work"playing a game on my phone" when I saw 4g so I instantly speed tested it which it was at 8.5mb down 2.2 up. The rest. Of my shift it stayed on 4g "working" get off work to go home sit down to poo and no 4g ugh At least metro manager saw my bday was the 29th and my Bill due date was the same and credited my Bill due. Lol I think she likes me
 
I had that issue for a while, 4G signal, no service. It used to have issue with a specific location. When I moved to a different area, no problems with 4G.
I called and did the reset multiple times. they stated that they would have to reprogram my phone. I told them it was a tower issue, they said they had to reprogram my phone first.
They couldn't tell me what they wanted me to do unless I was physically doing it at the time. I didn't have another line to call them on, so they sent me to the corp store.
The lady at the counter asked to see my phone instead of filling out a maintenance request, and told me that they would have had to replace my handset (at my cost) but it was rooted, so there was nothing I could do.
She also said that since I was using Juice Defender, that it was the cause and until I removed the program, it wasn't going to work. I uninstalled it to show her.
She then read off the screen that they could not stop me from using a rooted phone (from the MetroPCS branded program they were using) and finally filled out a request for the tower.
It was working a two weeks later in that area.

As stated in the forum, it is likely a Metro issue, but it may take some finagling to get someone to fill out a maintenance request on the tower.

Check to see if it is always that way, and see if checking the 4G in another area might fix it. If you can localize it to a specific area, then that might be the cause.

Sincerely, good luck. Metro isn't always the easiest company to work with.

PS- Juice Defender works just fine on my phone....
 
Thanks but currently not rooted and using. Default apps still no 4g tomorrow ill go to my friends how's to " reprogram " we all know that's verifying mdn min and sid

I did they compensated my full Bill and are looking into it lol I just realize my 3 g is in the 1.5to 2mb download but oh well I may be leaving yall.if this ain't resolved by Wednesday .... my bday.. or Friday when I get paid.

I hear ya. Straight talk is the way to go honestly. Just buy you an s3 and run it on 7mbps for 45 a month.

Being that I'm buying the s3 when it comes out for metro, if metro doesn't up their data like they say they are doing, then i might take the s3 to straight talk

I never like having music on my phone so i stick to my little Phillips mp3 player. I gotta have my music all day at work as well so i understand totally.
 
OK, here's the likely answer:

a rom/kernel/launcher/tweaker/power saving app's settings and/or widget may be the culprit...or some file corruption somewhere...

There are several options:
1. Call Metro...rotmfflmmfao, visit your local Metro store--not if you want to get a stroke and possibly die on the spot.
2. Laboriously sleuth for culprit, not recommended.
3. Hook up phone with LGPNPST and sleuth network settings, not recommended...there's a ton of them, may damage something else, fix may not stay permanent...ixnay.
4. Restore a recent working backup done say, thru cwm, titanium, etc....ehh....

orrrrr.....drumroll please......

5.
a. Use MobileGo to back up whatever you wish to PC.
b. Redundant backup(s) with your preferred android apps to external sd.
c. Download to external CWM bootloop recovery fix...thank you ShinySide, in case you get stuck in one.
d. Factory reset.
e. For Rom, try to restore the most recent trouble-free cwm, nandroid, etc. backup or Stock Bloated Rom(after problem over, then change to Rom of your choosing).
Take this opportunity, just in case, to flash a different Rom where you never had this problem(although likely culprit is an app).
f. Restore all thru MOBILEGO edited...this app is so easy to use.
g. Stay away from or be careful with the app 360 Guard, offered by 360 Launcher install. In one of the various installs flashes--wound up with settings choices NONE of them WITHOUT alternative to NOT turn off Data...or restore it once turned off(it prompts you to go to download site if you need more options...hard to do with no internet).
h. PS when backing up with Titanium or others, if you must have complete call log, contact, sms history, do not select to 'not include Data for speed's sake sic'
i. added benefit of this option is ur phone winds up cleaner, leaner, faster...other unrelated issues possibly fixed along the way.

That's it...restored 4G very quickly...and that with getting stuck in a CWM bootloop(just apply exitrecovery.zip for quick fix while in recovery)...
did not lose Root, did lose any data or apps---and this in spite of having missed the last scheduled android backup while troubleshooting....
did not have to downgrade / reupgrade ZVx versions or any copious reinstalling of anything else.

Please feel free to critique(up to and including inserting an obscene avatar), add, edit, request i be suspended, etc.
 
Mind you, it's not as easy as a simple toggle data or 4g on/off, :p

Something is being done to the network settings.

What works for sure(or only easy way) is utilizing the culprit(if known) to reenable...if the guilty app has been removed since, reinstalling to toggle on will do the trick...

thanks man, you said had good idea, but, to be honest with you if you read my notes, its not my phone, I have and had 4g at my work leaving my work anyways, not in my house anymore or with in a 4 mile radius of my house, my 3 g works as well as my 4g just no data near my house, so I dont know what to do. I did a factory reset to very factory settings, no apps no rom no cwm, and still same issue, just no service within the 4mile bubble, I watched the service cut out.

this has been going on since 2006, with metro and my service, and I really think its cause I have had the same number since 2002.

Do they still have the policy of buy another phone and get full refund if returned with less than xx minutes used?
Does same happen to relatives/associates?

lol my phone has 456:12:36 on life time calls, lol can I delete that. lol This phone looks new in its case and cover, but lol its has been around the block, I may be just leaving metro soon, or stick around if by thusday, this isnt resolved I am bouncing....

SORRY GUYS its been going on for 4 since I had the Imprint and ascend and the esteem I cant take it 22 networking related trouble tickets in the past 4 months.

Seriously, i would make the switch.

I was thinking you could troubleshoot with a new phone, say the Motion(or the Metro phone of another coworker/family member)...then return it if still same issues....but after 4 phones it'd likely be a waste of time / or they have it in for you.

Good luck, hope you can port ur present number seamlessly to next carrier...or in the meantime to someone like Google Voice, etc.

I am getting the motion Friday no ifs ands or buts . But I understand metros update processes since sat night which the last update they did I lost my signal to my local tower my ip. Telecom address changed so from my knowledge of networking my service was change by metro I'm willing to out money on it metro will find out the bumped me off my local network tower.

So ya guys I did one better and tested my theory and changed my friends esteems. Ip address to mine but changing the last digit BAM same issue .

Changed his back back to normal

Can't change mine or I get service disabled ... 23gigs of used data my be a problem to metro
 
You can clear your call timer by upgrading or downgrading the software version. Might be an easier way but idk.
