Future phones for Virgin Mobile USA?

A slower processor, smaller screen, and less app space are not "issues". Contrary to what you believe, the phone was indeed built that way on purpose.

As I politely requested of you before, let's agree to disagree and leave it at that.

I am stating that they are "issues" I (and others) have with the phone, and they are things people take into consideration when looking at phones. You are entirely correct that the phone was designed that way on purpose and I never said it wasn't :).

A MIUI is a ROM... I think I'll have some RUM...LOL:D:p

No seriously now... Do I neeed to be rooted in order to give it a try?

MIUI is not available on the Optimus V. (I see that as you device under your avatar :)) So unless you have a different phone than what is listed there, you can't use it.

I don't understand why virgin mobile would release phones that underperform the Triumph (LG optimus slider and htc wildfire plus two new rumored phones) when the triumph is already 6 months old. The bump to 1ghz the triumph offers is unbelievable and is necessary to just make the android experience smooth. anyone else baffled by this? I would think they would have more phones with at least a 1ghz processor by now.

I'm not sure that anyone has ported any MIUI distros that would work on our phone. Someone probably has, but I wouldn't even begin to know where to look. XDA perhaps. If they have, I would think there would also be some reviews out there that give the comparisons between MIUI and CyanogenMod (speed, stability, battery consumption, and is the dev that made the rom for our phone actively supporting and updating his rom, what do current users of the rom say about it, etc etc etc). Id really research it before jumping in.

But to answer your question, yes. You always need root to install a rom. ;)

Pass the rum!!

I don't understand why can't we have the real good phones that everyone else seems to have.. :(

I am also with you on your comment... It does not make sense to downgrade phones after having a really good upgrade...

The cost of the phone. With a contract they roll the price of the phone into the 2 year agreement. Without a contract if they did that people would come, get a phone and jump all the time. Most people don't have $400-500 to drop on a new phone. Virgin Mobile is working on a purchase plan option as well. One of their new phones for the coming months is slated to be around $450.

With more and more people moving to prepaid smartphones hopefully we're going to be seeing more and more better phones for less.

The prepaid smartphone market is still really new. The Optimus V has only been out for less than a year, the Intercept for about 16 months (I think). I do not think any other prepaid carriers had smartphones (other than BlackBerries and hacked phones) before Virgin did.

Now with Cricket, Boost, Wal-Mart's plan, all the minor local ones as well as Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile's prepaid services and all of them having smartphone I think we will really start to see a huge increase in the quality of phones. Competition is great for the consumer.

T-Mobile does something like this with their contract and/or pre-paid plans. Not sure how it works with T-Mobile, but I have read about it.

What's wrong with the triumph? don't believe the hype. I love it. No doubt there was a bad batch that from what I read mostly came out of best buy. The only issue I did have was slow GPS when I first got it. After it locked on a few times it's fine now.

I would like to see bigger screen phones like the Samsung Galaxy SII or the Galaxy Note when it comes to the USA. Lot of money but I think I would have to splurge with my tax refund for one of those.

Ill spend $450 on a new VM Android phone that blows the Triumph out of the water. What was your rumor source?

Im a little annoyed that the new phones they released recently are so close in specs. The Optimus slider is cute, but I hate the slider. The HTC thing is not really any better than my LG optimus V. I would love to drop 299 on the Motorola, I love the way it looks and the specs appear to be right where I would like to be, but it only runs 2.2 and there has been a lot of discussions regarding how buggy that phone is. The optimus v is a really great phone, but it's a tad slow and a tad low on memory. Virgin mobile, please release something like the samsung exhibit II 4g from Tmobile. Its a great price and I like the specs on that phone.

VM is about low price, and typically its customers prefer cheap phones with cheap plans. They wanted to branch out and test out having expensive phones like the Motorola Triumph, but unfortunately because of the bad quality control of that particular phone, their sales numbers are probably below expectations. And if just going by the numbers, some bean counter probably used it to argue that VM customers aren't interested in buying "premium" phones to use on their plans. But I think there's quite a few of us willing to pay $250-300 for a mid-level smartphone, as long it performs the way it's advertised. Optimus Black would be a perfect choice, I hope VM announces it soon.

Root and install a custom rom (CyanogenMod 7.2 BACKside IHO). If you think the OpV is a nice phone stock, you'll think it screams with the BACKside IHO rom. After you install the rom, you can overclock it. Then you can follow MacFett's tutorial on Link2SD. ;)

My OpV is yummy! :p

Yes I think the optimus black would be a nice choice as well. I am not looking for cutting edge, but I really don't think the last two phones they dropped were enough of an upgrade (the HTC for sure is no upgrade) to justify them being added to the lineup. The LG optimus slide should have replaced that OLD samsung with the slide out keyboard. And just a spec bump and 2.3 on the optimus v (optimus v2 perhaps) would have made more sense in my opinion. Also the Motorola should have gotten 2.3 at least.

Regarding the CyanogenMod 7.2 BACKside IHO, I guess I could try that, I really hate that we have to do that though. Why can't VM drop an OTA update to 2.3? I am not terrified of doing that, just aggravated that I have to jump through a few hoops to get the performance upgrade I am looking for.

How much can the Optimus v be overclocked? If I could get it to match the slider (more or less) I think that might hold me over until something better comes out.
