Galaxy Nexus vs Galaxy Note

Does anybody think that the stylus thing will get old fast?

Other than for DRAWING, editing? and screenshot stuff... I haven't heard about other things they can use the stylus for.

Are the specs practically the same as Galaxy Nexus?

@ Bold text, definitely not. Having a stylus is great.

As for the specs, the Note is wayyy faster than the Nexus.

Note hardware spec is actually better than Nexus. 1.4Ghz Exynos vs 1.2Ghz OMAP 4460, 1280X800 screen vs 1280X720 screen. It's got bigger MP camera sensor than Nexus. Though it's not necessarily better camera on Note, a lot of folks still perceive larger MP sensor equals better camera.
But the most notable spec differences are screen size and OS. 5.3" vs 4.65" and Gingerbread vs Ice Cream Sandwich. But I'm pretty sure Note will get ICS upgrade next year and it would be great device running it.

Note is definitely getting ICS soon, it was rumored to possibly have an ICS update shortly after launch.

Also..

Note = 2500mah
Nexus = 1750mah

I'm going to take a guess and say that the Note is going to get a comfortable 2 days of usage.

Gotta remember that the Note GPU is also way better than the Nexus GPU. The GPU in the Nexus was a major turn off for me... (I'm not with Verizon anyways :p, who knows when AT&T is getting either one of these.)

I'm interested in the Note as well...however, my understanding is that it won't hit the US until "1Q12" which means probably March (I'm a realist here) and then may/may not be on the carrier of choice (VZW for me) and I just need to upgrade from my OG now.

I really like the look of the RAZR, that's the competition for me right now. Was briefly looking at the HTC Vigor/IncHD but with the historical battery issues, that pretty much killed it for me.
Mobicity on the net have the Note for sale right now. Unlocked $890 AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS. Getting mine in the mail tomorrow.

My main reason I won't go for the Note is Samsung is horrid with updates. Wife has a Fascinate and still isn't on GB and she got hers 5 months after I got my DX. The only reason I am considering the Galaxy Nexus is the updates come from Google, and I can count on them.

For the longest time I thought I'd be upgrading from my Nexus One to the Galaxy Nexus...But when they finally announced the GNex and that it was going to get the 1.2GHz OMAP, I have to say I was disappointed. I felt so sure they were going to put the newly announced Exynos 1.5GHz in there, with the supposedly monstrous GPU. But no.

At this point I'm pretty well sold on getting the Note. I've got big hands and fat fingers, so the oversized 5.3" is a BIG selling point for me. The fact its' also got all the "goodies" that the GNex has (Barometer, NFC Chip, gorgeous screen) , a better CPU/GPU and the stylus is as accurate as a Wacom Bamboo (it's touch AND pressure sensitive!)...Well, that's a lot of wins in the Notes' corner for me.

The BIG downside though, I'm sure, will be cost. When you break the 5" barrier (and under 7"), you're in niche territory and hence in niche pricing. I'm on TMo now and it already seems like I'm going to have to jump carriers to get a decent Android phone and even subsidized with a 2yr contract I can't see the Note being less than a $400 investment.

Are there any rumors or information on whether Verizon will be getting the Note? Gut feeling is no...

This is my fear.

How many of us would jump from the VZW ship to get the Note? I've seen some ads on TV for more and more carriers going to unlimited data plans...

Wut?? None of the Big 3 are going towards unlimited, in fact, none of them have true unlimited right now unless you're grandfathered.

As for the Note...DO NOT WANT. I held a Galaxy 5.0 in Best Buy today and it has me rethinking the Nexus even, talk about a GIGANTIC device. I would need a purse to carry that thing around.

So far no US carrier is confirmed to carry Note. If it ever comes to US, AT&T is the most likely one as Note passed FCC with AT&T bands before.

With my unlimited plan & Verizon's better service, I'd never jump. They are now selling data plans with megabytes.

However, I do want the Note or a similar sized phone. If you have tiny hands and 16 year old eyes, the Note is not for you but if you use Excel and do anything that involves extensive reading on your phone, you have to be nuts not to take advantage of the larger phones...if you can handle the size. For the same reaasons the tablets exist and are flourishing, so will larger phones for people who want them and do not want to carry a table. Ask not if the phone will fit in your pocket or pocketbook, ask where the tablet fits?

It is the same for me that I have unlimited data with Verizon and I am not going to give that up.

With that being said, the carrier's capability is a large part of your mobile experience. You could have a killer phone but if your carrier cannot provide the service, it will be a moot point. So far I am very happy with Verizon's excellent coverage and their customer service. Every time when I go to a professional conference and see the other attendees struggling with the reception because they have some other carriers, I know I have the right choice. :)

This is why I went with the note.

First of all the Note has been deemed to have ICS update in the near future. So, I kept OS out of my buying equation. Plus the Dev team is already working on a Note ICS Rom if I didn't want to wait.

Hardware:

CPU: Note has a better CPU, the Exynos processor has been proven to be the best mobile phone CPU on the market today and set at a healthy 1.4Ghz, it's a no brainer.

GPU: The Note has a better GPU, with this HD resolution of these phones (Note, G Nexus) we're gonna need all the help we can get. The 4-core Mali400 GPU in the Note has proven itself inside the GSII. Why the Nexus got the SGX540 that was in the Samsung Fascinate (S phones) is beyond me. This make no sense at all. Yet another reason the Note was a clear winner.

Screen, I wanted the largest screen with "pocketability". It has slightly larger resolution at 1280x800 than the Nexus but less PPI. Not that the 285ppi is anything to look down upon the screen still looks amazing. The 5.3" screen is quite a bit of real-estate over the 4.3" "usable" space on the G Nexus.

Cameras, the GSII 8/2MP shooters have proven themselves in the marketplace to be great shooters. Well, I'm glad they shoehorned them into the Note. From what i've read/watched about the Nexus cameras, I think I made a great choice with the Note.

Storage, with either 16/32GB built in to the note it matches the Nexus. But dominates it with the ability to add a 64GB Micro SD card. The Note has 80/96GB of theoretical storage. The Nexus is stuck with 32GB.

S-pen, I never thought this as a reason to buy the note over any other phone. But I have found it to be very useful. I use it more than I don't.

The Notes battery is amazing. Sure, it has a larger screen so that's a disadvantage, but the 2500mAh battery is 43% larger in capacity over the Nexus so it's a warm welcome. It does last me all day in heavy usage.

Good reasons. What did you pay for it? Where you able to get it on contract? I'd go for the note in a heartbeat if I could get it on Verizon.

I also agree about the many choices for an Android phone, but the problem with Androids is that you see a new phone with better specs relatively too often, and you'll be compelled to upgrade yet again. At least for the iPhone, you'll know you have the best iOS phone for about a year or so.

That being said, I'm switching to the Galaxy Note once it comes out, and ditching my iPhone 4. The iPhone's screen size just doesn't just doesn't cut it anymore.

new phones too often ? Don't think so. The competition is so intense that it promotes technological advances. Compelled to upgrade ? You're free to not do so. I'm on my og droid. Granted it won't run the demanding apps that well, but overall it still gets the job done ok. Sure it's slow.. sure it's got the nagging lack of ram notification pop up all the time now. I'm sure I will do another 2 years with my Nexus.

The lte nexus has 1850 mah battery.

It isn't really "way faster" if both were clocked the same I think the nexus would be close if not win in some of the benchmarks.

I'd have to doubt that. As long as we're talking ICS vs ICS.

Exynos CPU vs Ti OMAP CPU @ 1.2, I'd think the Exynos would come out on top.
Mali400 GPU vs SVX540, not even in the same league.

The Galaxy S II is one of if not the fastest 1.2Ghz android phone on the market. Am I wrong?

I paid $729.00 shipped from Amazon off contract.

imo, its the best phone on the market today.

I would probably agree with you on that one. Sadly, for me that isn't worth it when I can pick up a G-Nex for $199 - $299 on contract.

I sure wish Verizon would offer this phone and soon.

Yes, you are. CPU wise, clock for clock OMAP4460 is as fast as Exynos if not more.

It is only the GPU that is weaker. Everyone is judging the OMAP4460 based on the GPU performance alone, because mobile benchmarks mostly revolve around GPU performance mostly, this has caused people to think that Exynos is "way faster". It is not.

Also, don't forget that OMAP4460 default clock is 1.5Ghz, for some reason it is underclocked to 1.2Ghz on the GNex. If you're thinking 1.5Ghz Exynos, well this isn't far off at all.

I have the perfect solution. I plan on getting the Gnex and the Galaxy Note. I've seen how verizon dicks around with new releases way too much! I would hate to pass up the Gnex for a phone that may take forever or may never come to verizon.

I have both, so probably in a good position to comment here.

Note takes it for me because it is better suited to my use (and the size is no issue for me).

Brief run down on the things the Note has that I need:
Better battery life
Better video playback
Better GPS
Storage - I have a 64GB card in my Note and while your use might not dictate needing that much storage mine does (and don't talk to me about the Cloud, network data coverage is too poor here and FLAC-encoded songs aren't good streaming fodder, in short it is not a viable option for me)
Better GPU (again, important for my use, YMMV)
Better camera (agree with earlier sentiments about "it's not all about megapixels", but fact remains the Note's camera is MUCH better than the Nexus camera)

Too many compromises in the Nexus for it to hope to be my day-to-day phone.

Things I like about the Nexus:
ICS really is much better than GB, I can sacrifice the better user experience for the above factors, others may not be prepared to
Ignore benchmarks and relative CPU speeds etc, the Nexus in general use is noticeably smoother and more responsive than the Note (sure in some stuff like gaming and other use-case specific scenarios the Note wins out, but for most general use will be what informs their impressions of how responsive the device is... of course once the Note updates basically all of the Nexus advantages are gone and only reason to opt for the Nexus is if the Note is too large and I readily accept that it will be for most people).

Hope that is helpful, feel free to ask questions.
