Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

I imagine it'll be in the fall as usual (Oct/Nov).
Still haven't read much into the G3 but I love my G2 as it is and don't see a reason to upgrade.

G3 was going to be my next phone. However, I think I'll hold onto my Gnex a little longer and wait for the next big thing. I'm a bit underwhelmed with this. However, if this is easily rootable, and if it has 3gb ram for big red, I may reconsider. The final unveiling of the G3 didn't live up to it's hype.

Steven, if you prefer your GNex to any of the current offerings, I don't think you'll EVER find a better phone!

;)

On a side note, I'm a little underwhelmed with phones myself, these days. I don't use the S-Pen on my Note 3 nearly as much as I used to, and I basically use it just like I use every other phone, except that I watch many more videos on it than I did any other, because of the huge screen.

So my only requirements for a good phone, it seems like, is a big, gorgeous screen with as high a resolution as possible.

I'll wait til the Note 4 just to see if it has the flexible, wrap-around screen. If it doesn't, I may scoop up the G3. I like the tiny tiny bezel and the great, laser-focused camera.

Granted... there is NOTHING FIRM in this. These are RUMORS. Everything about the Note 4 is a rumor, except for the fact that it's coming out with a "different form factor", which was a quote from a Samsung executive. But I feel it's a very accurate rumor, since Sammy is usually good about introducing the next Note at (or just before) the IFA.

:)

I'm all but certain I'm going with the G3 myself. Unless Verizon pulls a GNex at launch and makes us wait forever.

Thought I heard in one passing review/once over it was quite a bit of time to get to carriers (July/August).
Even still, should be a nice upgrade from your DNA. :)
Love my G2, and seriously, you get used to the back buttons if you use em.

I'm like 80% sure I'll sell my G2 and get the G3. Assuming Verizon will offer the 3/32, I think they will.

Is there something about your G2 you don't like enough to buy a G3?
Mine is doing just fine and I think I'm coming to a breaking point where I honestly don't need something more powerful/bigger/better to replace my phone. The camera could be a little better, but I think it does everything I need it to.

Admittedly, the G3 is tempting in its technological wonder... but Gina the Note 3 is exactly the way I want her, she does everything I need her to do with style and grace, and it will be a bittersweet day indeed when Aleshia the Note 4 arrives in my hand and I retire Gina to the phone archive... along with Ginny the Galaxy Nexus and Droidette the Motorola Droid.

I've revived her from a brick state twice, rooted her three times, and tweaked more stuff than I have any business tweaking. And she just keeps plugging along :)

TWO DAYS, no posts. Is the Watering Hole drying up? :(

Tomorrow a local living legend turns 95. He stormed the beaches of Normandy in the first wave of D-Day during WWII and not only lived to tell about it: for heroism and bravery on that beach, he was promoted from Private to Second Lieutenant by General Omar Bradley himself.

He then served in Korea, where we was captured as a POW. Twice. And escaped. TWICE. He has bayonet scars, bullet wounds all over his body; and a perpetually cold left hand, on which he wears a mitten even during the summer. He had to pull three bullets from himself with his bare hands... including said left hand which suffered permanent nerve damage causing the cold sensation. He stormed behind enemy lines more often than he can count, and always mercifully left an exit route for enemy troops.

I will visit him at the assisted living facility, where he is staying while his home is rebuilt. It was completely destroyed by fire last year: lost are all the medals and ribbons he was awarded during his illustrious career.

As Commander of the local DAV, I am working with two Congressional offices to restore as many as possible, in a stunning shadowbox that will be custom built. But due to a fire at the St. Louis Records Center in the 1970s, we fear most of his records are long gone. However, I will pay him a visit to wish him a happy 95th birthday, humbled to be in the rare air of heroism that defies the imagination.

:)

My FIL served in the South Pacific theater. He was 90. His funeral is later today.

Steven, I am so sorry for the loss. These people are treasures with valuable lessons in their stories. We're losing them way too fast. May he rest in peace :(

Keynote has been pretty snooze inducing. Since I don't have one of those fancy Apple machines, I'm just (sorta) following The Verge's live blog. Looking forward to their wrap-up afterwards.

I went to the local electronics store (kinda researching for Black Friday) to eyeball the difference, side by side, of 1080p HD to 4K UHD. My jaw hit the floor.

Okay, so there is a Samsung UN65HU9000 in our future this fall :D

If you don't know, 4K content is very sparse. Like Sony(my 4K tv), Samsung will have a media player for downloading movies. Sony's media player cost $700; or $500 if you preorder now. There might possibly be 4K blu ray movies by the end of the year? Netflix has House of Cards and Breaking Bad in 4K.

I would highly suggest going to the owners thread on AVS forum for that Samsung model. I was on there for mine for about two months reading up on it. Unfortunatly mine has a limitation that can not be corrected with a firmware update. I knew that going in, but I feel Sony has the better tv.

If you've never been on AVS, just know they can be rude on their at times.
