Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Just turn on Wi-fi. Even if you don't have a wi-fi network to connect to.

My extended battery was dropping power like nothing I'd ever seen until I did this. Seems to have extended my battery life by a factor of 2 or 3!

but if you turn on WiFi, you'd be off LTE. I am getting almost 8meg upload speeds, vs 400k on WiFi.

what am I missing?

I think the point is to have the wifi turned on, for better battery management, but necessarily connected.
.
My battery has always done tremendously better when Im on wifi, but I just assumed it was because I wasn't using the radio. I have a few more hours with 4g so I've changed my settings in Juice defender and will give it a try

Yep, I went to plug my Nexus into the wall charger for the night and nothing! I was so afraid that the phone's USB jack was... uh... jacked. Fortunately, I tested the phone with my PC's USB cable and car charger with great success. So it's the cable!

Hey, cables DO go bad from time to time. And Verizon covers it 100%, so tomorrow I'll go pick another one up.

I know, this rant has nothing to do with the thread BUT it's the Lounge and I felt like sharing

Agreed. There is a trade off. I don't like the idea of sacrificing 4G at home for better battery life. So I will just continue to swap batteries.

But it's a great fix for those not in 4g areas.

Have you tried forgetting your networks and leaving your phone on wifi without being connected? It would be interesting to find out whether the battery life is still better with 4G AND wifi polling on...

That's what I'm trying today. It doesn't make sense that it would work better with both wifi and 4G, but we will see.

I have been leaving wifi on throughout the day. It auto connects to my home network and the office network but otherwise scans throughout the day but never connecting (by choice). When away from work and home, I just use 4G or 3G -- whichever is available.

With these settings, I have gotten the best battery life of any Android phone I've owned. I never would have thought to do that in the past with the OG Droid or the X2. In fact, I got rid of the power control widget since I now just leave everything on all the time...

The puppies chewed through part of my cable the other day but it's still charging! But boy was I mad at them though.

Oh and happy new years all!

Yeah well, I finished off all my collard greens and black-eyed peas for dinner, so I'm hoping some of that good luck will translate to kids moving out.

If I need MORE luck, I have a whole other bunch of collards to cook ;)

I love collard greens. We didn't have them though. Our dinner tonight is a choice of
Chili, Cream of Chicken soup, Beet soup, Manhattan Clam Chowder.
There was also meat and cheese platter, crackers.
Dessert is chocolate covered pretzels, meringues, snickerdoodle cookies, strufoli, roasted nuts.
And homemade eggnog or doctored sangria.

Well, I made cornbread too... but nothing like the spread YOU had!

We live purdy simple down in these here parts... :)

New Years dinner around here consists of pork and sauerkraut. I despise it so. I like pork. I like sauerkraut. But the two together just isn't my cup of tea.

What I just ate, +cornbread. I love my greens! I'm a good ole boy minus the accent :p

Finished it off with homemade apple pie and Breyers vanilla ice cream wow!

I keep trying to get mom to do simple. She is Italian and doesn't grasp simple meals for company.

Uh, no. I lived in Italy and they know how to do food! Company, I imagine, would call for an 11-course meal that leaves everyone so full they have no room left for a digestivo like Amaretto!

Exactly. She has pared down some over the years but we can still feed an army

I prefer kielbasa and sauerkraut with apples. :D

Gosh I love the kraut! Just had a Reuben (about 5 inches tall) the other night always get extra kraut & thousand island on the side. It's warm and delicious :) Now I'm already hungry again...

Ha ha! Reminds me of the Darling Bride when we first got married. She was a Culinary Specialist in the Navy and I came home one day to find 3 pots of stew on the stove... for the TWO of us! Apparently she had difficulty converting meals for 1000 down to 2 so we had stew for like... years :D

I miss thousand island dressing. I cant eat mayonnaise anymore. It and my stomach have a grudge. So now I eat my reubens with mustard.
