Isn't a program like Tasker or Llama easier than setting up the NFC tags? Plus, you can't very set up a tag at someone else's house, for example.
Maybe...but not as cool

Same reason you should never leave Home programmed in a car GPS. Nothing like a turn by turn guide from you to have your house robbed.
Grrr, I can't seem to get any service! No clue why. Tried turning the phone on and off a few times, tried switching airplane mode on and off a few times, even tried turning off 4G as well. Nothing.
EDIT: Checking out the Battery menu shows that I stopped the radio stopped functioning earlier today after I turned my phone off; I'd noticed that there was a glitch in my apps drawer, two of the screens were partially black, obscuring the apps. It was very strange, so I turned the phone off. I thought I'd tried turning the phone off again when I noticed the problem, but I guess I hadn't. Here's the battery stats:
Very strange! A little bit worrisome, but the problem seems to have disappeared.
I don't think so. Have you ever used Tasker? Yes, it will do some of the things that tags will do, but I don't think as easily. Tags give you options to vary as you can read the tag, or choose not to do so.
Tasker is VERY cool, but I think I will use these tags more often. For example, when I get in my car, I want my BT to connect, my navigation to come up as well as Pandora and my car dock app. With Tasker for example, you pretty much have to leave your wifi to make it do those things, as it can't read when you get in your car (I stay connected to my wifi until I leave the driveway). However, with a tag on the car dock, it can set your phone how you want.
Well, considering I have full exterior lighting, all doors and windows sensored, and an interior motion controlled camera system which records anything which moves while the alarm is armed "away", I might just catch the losers who stole my car this way
But no worries, my car's nav system has old maps, so doesn't have my neighborhood, so I have it programmed to an address near the entrance to my neighborhood
Couldn't you make the trigger the phone connecting to the car bluetooth?
Yeah, I know they're reboots, I was turning the phone on and off myself when I noticed the glitch. I do have JuiceDefender, but it's not active at the moment. I dunno, the problem seems to have fixed itself, I think I'll leave well enough alone, at least for now.Weird. Showing you that you have no signal at all. Like the cell radio cut off. Are you using juice defender? The blips of black in the battery stat are reboots. Why don't you try re-programming your sim card. Power off, pull battery, pull sim card out (click it out) leave out for 10 sec, re-insert, put battery in and cover and power up. It's like a *228 deal on a sim'd phone.
That's great! I guess no one gets close without you knowing it.
My bedside table where I charge it turns volumes down low, enables desk clock, and turns on the alarm.
Geek/dork heaven!
And thanks out to Stiggy for aiding me in getting this working!
Sure you can. But tasker uses GPS/positioning to tell whether you are in the car or not. NFC doesn't require this "positioning" aspect and I have not seen any variance in battery life with it on or off. I just got mine all setup today and it's amazingly convenient, lazy you could say I guess.
My car cup holder has a sticker inside. When I set my phone down, wifi goes OFF, gps is enabled, Pandora app opens and begins streaming, volumes are maxed out vibration turned off, and Car Home/Maps initiated.
When I walk inside my house my BT is turned off, GPS off, WIFI enabled, volumes lowered, Car/home and pandora closed, and Phandroid app opened .
Being a Worship leader at church, I've created a church tag (in the audio closet doorway) that enables WIFI, turns off all my car profile thingies and puts all tones on silent and enables vibration for rings so I won't forget as I have in the past

Can it control apps? browser? I always put my phone in the same place in the kitchen when I cook, could I have it load to a certain bookmarked page (i.e. allrecipes) when I put it there?
What desk clock do you activate - just the 'clock' app that comes stock? Does the Nexus have a desk dock mode like the DX did? (that was really nice!)
Hmmm, and where did you get these tags? Amazon? Or is there a cheaper place?
