Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

lol, ok, so im going to give a full rundown of what i have done in the order i did it to ensure it was correct...

1)installed all the sdk and correct drivers
2)got into fastboot and did oem unlock to unlock bootloader
3)downloaded the modaco superboot zip and put it inside my sdk tools under a folder i made(gnex superboot)
4)booted phone into fastboot using volume +- and power while plugged into cpu
5)double clicked file within the superboot file i downloaded called "install-superboot-windows.bat" , it automatically did everything from there
6)reboot phone and ensured superuser was there and indeed it was
7)downloaded ROM manager
8)opened rom manager and selected "flash clockworkmod recovery", and it now shows as 5.5.0.4 was the current and latest recovery

i think that is a much simpler summary than i have seen other places and might show people its not as intimidating as it seems

this is the exact method i used. honestly the hardest part was finding the right samsung driver (Samsung_USB_Driver_for_Moblie_Phones_v1_4_6_0.exe) and getting the adb folders set up correctly. everything else was a breeze!

EDIT: ok, so something went wrong somewhere. in an effort to see if i did it right, i rebooted into fastboot then selected recovery to see if CWM was done right, and i got a red triangle over the android with an exclamation point on it.... i missed a step or did something wrong somewhere along the line

It's not a perma root yet. You have to flash clockwork via ROM Manager every time if you want to get to CWR otherwise it sends you to normal recovery. I did it too. lol

I don't know for sure if this is still the case but your supposed to change permissions on some files to not rewrite the recovery on boot. What I did though was flash Pete's stock rooted rom and I had tluely55 do that as well in order to keep the recovery. You can get the rooted stock rom at peteralfonso.com in downloads, then toro.

Good evening folks! Trying to unlock Nessie, but I can't even get to first base (lol.) I apparently can't even get the SDK set up on my compter. I'm missing some files, such as apb.exe, fastboot.exe and possibly AdbWinApi.dll (needed?).

HELP! :)

this happened to me as well, problem was that i hadn't run anything else in rom manager to give it SuperUser permissions. i fixed it by opening rom manager the pressing "fix permissions", which didn't work, but did give me the "allow superuser access" prompt. after that, i flashed CWM through the app again and it worked fine.

Hey everyone! good to see familiar faces - I finally had some time today to unlock and root my GNEX today and just been fiddling with it all day. I can't tell you how excited I am for the phone - I finally have real 4G now! DIE THUNDERBOLT:D

then you sir, are the help i need. did you just follow these instructions or do it another way?
[RECOVERY] ClockworkMod Recovery *CDMA Edition* - xda-developers

i think my problem is coming in where i didnt do the steps under "how to install CWM", but rather tried to do it from the app by installing rom manager and flashing from there

nope, i did it through ROM Manager. it did not stick the first time, as i posted a few replies ago, but it has stuck ever since.

Alright I have been using Light Flow and for some reason the notification light likes to have a mind of its own. I got a Gtalk message, looked at it, replied, locked the phone and the light is still flashing...Anyone else have this issue?

did that for me occasionally until i changed "clear notification style" from "app entered" to "screen on" under the settings for each notification.

So I hate to be naggy, but does anyone know if they exchange at the store, or will they need to ship me a replacement?

I have come to the conclusion that I have a defective display, unfortunately.

How grey are your whites? I've noticed a difference between the phone & my *gasp* iPad, but I like the softer whites. I put the brightness all the way up and my husband & I BOTH said it hurt our eyes. So maybe yours is defective. Sorry for that :-(

Edit...yeah sorry. Late to the pahtay.

Is anyone using a task killer? I just had a laggy moment opening the app tray and i hadn't experienced it having a delay yet. I feel like there were too many background processes running from my switching apps quickly right before it happened.

Thoughts!

Okay. Works for me too. Must have just been making assumption without checking.

Guess I need to be more adventurous

Made my first call with the device a couple hours ago and cringed when the line started ring. Sounded sick almost like it was under water and the first 30 seconds the call quality made my shake my head. It started to sound better near the end of the call however.

I made my first real phone call with the Nexus earlier today, and I was pleasantly surprised at how good the call quality was. Very clear and louder than I'd been led to expect. I suppose the quality of the signal you have makes a big difference.

I was at my nephew's bday party and took a panoramic pic and showed everyone. Everyone was all "wow! how did you do that?!"

I have been blowing the iSheep away left & right. They have no idea what a phone can do. I'm not even a techie and will never realize the full potential of this phone & I STILL know it is capable of so much more than the iPhone.

I actually impressed someone with light flow and slide it today. LOL!

ok, after doing exactly as solidorange said, i rebooted again into recovery and indeed CWM stuck. i feel much better now, big thanks to everyone for the help. it feels much better to me to ask familiar faces these questions than asking them in the root thread

i hadn't tried it through fastboot until now, which does not work. i have been booting into recovery through ROM Manager, which worked fine. so much for CWM sticking, now i have to reflash! :p

haha, funy because after i did exactly what you said and fastbooted into recovery, it worked perfect

edit: i just feel better being able to get to it from fastboot knowing if i really botch something badly, i can most likely still get there even if the OS isnt booting fully or properly

just reflashed, working for me now too. both through rom manager and fastboot. :D

so now that i got that sorted out... just need to start reading and familiarize myself with rom flashing, or am i making this harder than it is and its as simple as going through "download rom" in rom manager and then "install rom" there as well

Hey guys a few things:

First I love my phone. I have had little to no trouble with battery life. It's at least as good if not better than my Dinc battery life and I haven't even rooted yet.

Second, my only complaint is the touch tones do not work to make a selection when calling customer care at Verizon Wireless, Time Warner Cable, etc. You can press til your heart is content but it never recognizes it.

Third, I installed the Google Wallet .apk Found Here. It installed and activated easy enough even giving me $10 on the prepaid card. I tried to add $100 to the card as well. It withdrew it from my bank account but immediately refunded it. Anyone else want to give it a try?

Finally, I can't believe that I'm seeing people return this phone already. What's the rush? We waited 90+ days for the phone. Begging and pleading with anyone that would listen to give it to us "even with bugs" and we'd be happy. Now, due to some "sub par" battery life (allegedly) they are returning it without even giving it 30 days.
