Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

FYI, this won't work if you're on the 4.0.3 AOSP rom, regardless of whether you put it in data/local or system/media.

All you get is an ink black screen until it's booted.
Close call then, I haven't pushed it onto my phone yet. I was just getting ready to hit enter to push it when I decided to check the watering hole for updates. I just can't keep away from you guys! :p
I guess I will stick with the stock animation for now. It's alright for what it is. Better than a plain black screen anyway. Thanks for the heads up.

Hey guys...missed you all this past weekend while I was out in the dangerous "real world" celebrating my first of five, YES FIVE, Christmases. (My wife and I both come from divorced parents).

After catching up I'll share that I'm 30, been with the same company for 10 years. I have a degree in Programming & Database and my official title is "Database Administrator" although I'm more of a software specialist than a true DB guy. Anyway, I have been married for 5 years and have a 2 1/2 year old son and a dog. It's really cool to read about all of your ages and jobs because for some reason I make up ages/jobs for all of you based on your posts/username...it's hilarious how wrong I am about most of your ages/jobs. That's all for now. Still really getting comfortable with the Nexus, I'll be back later.

P.S. - Who needs an RSS feeder when we have RazorSharp! Thanks for all the news updates Razor.

P.P.S. - After spending sometime catching up in the actual Nexus Threads, I have to agree with BB that this Watering Hole is more on topic (and WAAAAAY more helpful/casual) than the actual threads. :) Nice.

I do the same thing. And was soooo wrong on 98% of my guesses.

+1 for Razor. I shall now call the daily list our RSRSS.

Yes. Go into system. Mount as r/w. You'll find the reboot-from-recover.p

BUT DO NOT DELETE IT.

Long press on it, click rename, and at the end, type ".bak" (no quotation marks).

You don't want to delete that because you will need that file once Google pushes out OTA updates (if you want to accept them, that is).

Also, don't forget to remount to r/o on your back out of the file system.

It won't let me rename. It says file system is read only.

first check in today, i see we are running down ages, jobs, and marital status for some reason, so i'll participate. :p

26, graduated from Clemson University with a degree in marketing in '07, now co-owner/operator of a sports bar. single, no kids. hooray for expendable income! ;)

at the top, if using root explorer, you will see a button that says "mount r/w". click that, long press on the file and a list will come up showing rename... just add .bak to the end

Ah. You see, I did that on the first screen. I didn't realize I had to do it again :o

hey guys and gals! stupid question but...i've unlocked, rooted, and "perma-installed" cwm and i've just made a backup. i thought for some reason it would backup to my computer but i see that it just made a backup to my sdcard. is there a way on the galaxy nexus to backup the backup onto a pc? i googled it and people said that (with other phones) you just copy the files but doesn't the galaxy nexus only operate on MTP? do people usually backup on the pc as well or only on the sdcard?

thanks!

iirc you can still copy from the phone to the computer like always, but its more tricky going from computer to phone. dont hold me to it, im learning like you haha but i think thats what i read

Sorry if I'm being a nag tonight :o

Are steps 2 through 6 done on the phone or do I have to connect to my laptop?

edit: i see you are using a different method than i use, so im not sure. this is how i did it:

after changing that file name, if you dont already have rom manager then get it from the market.

select the top option(flash clockworkmod recovery), reboot, flash again and you are done other than backing a backup. i suggest naming your recovery something to distunguish it from the rest, like "4.0.2 stock root" or similar
