Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

My grandpa was just in Washington DC. Said it was getting bad. I'm waiting on all this hooblah to get over with.

Anyhow. Headed back to the s3 hole to talk a little fooseball and pictures. Y'all have fun and feel free to come chime in. We love our sports. ;):D:thumbup:

We probably won't feel the truly bad stuff here, but they're predicting a couple inches of rain with tropical storm force gusts. Will make for a terrible Halloween for the trick or treaters though.

Morning folks! First line of really heavy rain is going to hit us in an hour or so. The restaurant is closed today so I'll be home. All Metro and bus service is canceled. Pretty sure the city will basically just be shut down. Made one last trip to Whole Foods last night and it was EMPTY! Got plenty of snacks though and the beer fridge is stocked, so we're good. :)

Good luck everyone, keep us in the loop. I'm slightly jealous as I am a hurricane nut, been through quite a few, they always fascinate me. Of course probably because I've never endured an eye wall of a Cat 2+. A cat 1 is really not that bad, especially if you aren't in the storm surge zone. Last few frames on satellite looks like she's turning in. NJ gonna get the worst of it :( stay safe BB and Steven.

Yeah, looks like we'll just get dumped with mostly rain. Only hurricane I really experienced was Bob in 91 in MA (sure Pup remembers it). Wasn't so much of the rain as that storm as the wind. TONS of downed trees and we lost power for a week.
This doesn't look to be so bad, but it's only begun. Been raining steadily all morning and it supposed to pick up any second now. I'll have to keep an eye on our basement storage rooms as they tend to flood pretty easily.

Yeah downed trees and no power are always a hassle, but most buildings can withstand 75-80 mph winds. So just in terms of people, hunkering down at home should avoid most tragic stories.

Yeah, we're on the second floor of an ancient brick house. All underground power lines (which, with all the rain, could pose an issue). 4 years of living here, power has only gone out twice, one of which was a scheduled outage. Not overly concerned. But, all the tablets and phones are charged just in case. ;)

Is anyone else here terrified of the dentist or am I alone in this? I really hate having those utensils in my mouth, it freaks me out.

Be safe everyone. My brother is in Virginia Beach, he is a boat captain. All power is out, the water has flooded the marina he is harbored in, the yacht is getting banged around quite a bit, the power lines and hookups for the marina are all under water. It was pretty bad overnight and getting worse.

Not terrified, but really don't like it. Last time I had to get x-rays, I was sweating to death. If you're going soon, I wish you the best of luck.

I was supposed to go to today, my first visit after moving and finding a new dentist. I was searching for my group number and member ID on Aetna and decided to look and see who else was around here and found a different place to go to. So now my appointment isn't until Nov.12.

Wish ya luck Halon! I went about 8 years between visits for reasons of lack of insurance and then laziness. Fortunately, my teeth were fine, no cavities. Got a reference from my boss at work. Doc is really friendly but the technicians can be a touch jerky with scraping. :o

I didn't have insurance for a long time also. I did, however, get braces during this lack of insurance...ex-wife paid for them :D

Just read that the troops guarding the Tomb of the Unknowns will NOT be stopping for this storm. The Tomb has been constantly guarded, with meticulous attention to detail and precision, since 1937. And they will press on through Sandy.

Now THAT'S dedication, folks. There's military people, and then there are the Tomb Guards. Those guys are in a league all their own...

Morning folks!! We are still just really gusty and some drizzle. Supposedly now going to get whatever tonight. Everything is closed - including half of NYC. I think Steven is in the worst part though so keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Halon - I hate the dentist other than a regular cleaning so you are not alone.

The daughter (16 yrs old), alone in her dorm in West Village NYC, says that so far it looks "normal" outside with some gusts.

Told her to stay inside :). Fully provisioned for the inevitable power failure. She is in Evac Area C, so hopefully they will stay put. Nothing like trusting your kid to 20-year-old RA's
