Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Our flags weren't at half staff this morning or I probably would have.

Also...It's sad that I had to Google the Nov. 22nd 1963 date.

So many dates to keep track of, it's hard to even keep the US Military history dates straight, now keep all the Presidential Assassination dates, yeah, that list gets large very fast.

I think you should be excused for not knowing exactly what each date refers to, if you weren't say age 7-8+ at the time it happened.

It's amazing to me that there are kids in middle school who have no living memory of 9/11. It happened before they were born. Just blows my mind, too, that the last Apollo mission to the moon, Apollo 17, was launched 40 years ago today.

Certainly wasn't around to remember Pearl Harbor. Hell, I was a junior in high school when 9/11 occurred. Tragedy either way. And, it looks like pretty much all flags around DC are half staff.

My earliest disaster or major event memory was hurricane Andrew. I was 8. I think that's about the age that awareness of the world outside of your own personal experience starts occurring.

Age 8, hmmm. Looking into '92. Interesting events:
-Bush vomits into the lap of the Japanese PM.
-Jeffrey Dahmer sentenced to life in prison.
-Clinton wins presidential election
-Hurricane Andrew hits, kills 23.
-Earthquake in Nicaragua kills 116

Wiki is fun. :)
Can't say I recall any of these events in real time though.

I vividly recall Hurricane Andrew and I was 8 as well. My real name is Andrew so I associated with that event in that way and I think that's when my fascination with hurricanes really took off as well.

Eventhough I wasn't alive for Pearl Harbor, D-day, Kennedy assassination, etc...I do not excuse myself for not knowing the dates of those events. If you ask me when Pearl Harbor took place, I can tell you, but it doesn't always dawn on me on the day of the anniversary until I hear or see something in the news about it.

Now 9/11, I think about it about a week or sometimes a month in advance. That day, the events, the emotions, etc are absolutely burned into my mind and I don't think they'll ever go away. I'm sure that's how those who were alive for Pearl Harbor feel. My wife is more amazed year after year with how little her 4th grade students know about 9/11, but then she reminds herself they weren't even born yet.

EDIT: The one historical event that I'm extremely ticked off that I missed was Halley's Comet. I'll be 74 if I live to see the next one.

Geek, I'll bit a touch older but would love to see Halley's Comet for the first time. 2061!
The next predicted perihelion of Halley's Comet is 28 July 2061,[1] when it is expected to be better positioned for observation than during the 1985

My bad, I mis-calculated. I'll be 77 according to that date. If it's 76 years between occurences, I'll be 78. I subtracted 2 instead of adding 2. :P

Odd, I just set the alarm for one minute out and it went off without crashing anything... Sorry you had a problem :(

Downloaded an app and thankfully woke up in time (hey, I deserved a nap!).
Clock is still crashing. :(
I'll give it some more work tomorrow, on my first consecutive day off in FOREVER! :)

I use Alarm Clock Extreme with Sourcery all the time and haven't had a problem dread.

I'm enjoying SwiftKey Flow, but I do miss the shortcuts of SlideIt.

Happy Saturday for those of you who have the day off.

Holy smokes - what was I doing, taking a nap or something? JBSourcery 4.2 Pre-Release 3 is in IRC :D

Thanks to Satellitez for dropping the hint!

Happy weekend everybody!

Everyone see that Google Now is coming to PC Chrome browers? Pretty cool.
Personally, I don't rely on it for much but it's certainly handy for some situations.

SwiftKey Flow works great...except it does NOT function within search and address bars. Kind of WTF. Known bug in the beta. Hope they fix it in release version.

Google Now is a pretty cool feature, but I don't think it's quite worth the battery drain that comes with it. I gain almost 1 1/2 hours of battery life by not even activating it after a rom flash.

Yeah, I was surprised to see the bug myself. I use to be such a wiz with swyping, but became complacent in normal typing after it took swype so long to get out an ICS compatible version. Now I'm no longer fast with it.
