Galaxy S3 Watering Hole

I don't mind. I am the director of sonography for a major Houston hospital and the sister clinics that are associated with it. By trade I am a ultrasonographer , but rarely get a chance to practice anymore. Essentially I am the liaison between physicians patients and 38 technologists.

Unfortunately i work for a big Hospital out here too .

After doing a bit of thinking, I think I may bow out from Samsung after this set of devices I have. :o

No, I am being serious. I am probably in the minority with my issues with the devices, but there are a few other things I am starting to ponder about, things that have been said and things I have read. Wether true or not, I am unsure if I will continue with sammy.

A few reasons for this conclusion. One major one is the obvious issues I have been having with my two main devices. The first was the Galaxy Nexus Verizon version, which jmar now has, well, his wife I think. But it has been problem free for them.

The next is my note II. having issues too, which I have blabbered about on this thread off and on.

Perhaps it is me. I am not sure, but something in the mix don't seem to be working well. Me + Samsung = love hate!? I am not sure. But I have come to the conclusion that I can no longer trust my device. How bad is it when I feel I need to carry a spare phone in case my daily driver has an issue!?

Well, perhaps it is Me and not samsung. Most of my Devices have not been stock, but I often change stock to a rom, I did so on the note II because I figured I could make real use of the multi window while chasing or doing a few other things, only to learn a bit later that it was only for certain applications. Perhaps a misunderstanding on my part. I probably should have taken the phone back right then and there and kept the SIII (which is no my moms and she has no problems with it, nor does my sister have any issues with hers). But anyway, I am digressing....

Other things I have noticed is the amount of stuff samsung has crammed into the S4. The S3 was pretty much a 10, so what could they do to the S4? Thats right, bells and whistles that, not everyone wants or needs. Earlier I had thought about taking the offer on the Note 8 LTE to replace the nexus 7 I had and picking up the S4 to replace my note II and to leave as is, but on one condition...

The S4 has way too much bloat, stuff I don't want or need. And if I want something other then black, I am stuck with 16gb of which, only I think 7gb is available (may be a bit more or less) So the condition would be to root the device and install a custom rom on it - or get the GPE device. Kind of defeats the purpose of keeping things as is.

Also, probably a totally unfounded thought, I started to wonder, could Samsung actually limited storage space on the device by bloating up touchwiz that gave users less then half available space to keep users from installing 3rd party (read google play) applications?

Think about this for a moment. Samsung knows that most people will not root and android will not allow you to install most apps to the SD card anyway, and even if you do, it would be slow to play games from the SD card (slower then onboard memory). And the amount of stuff they keep cramming into their devices, and rumors about them wanting to start their own competing OS.

They want to dominate. Apple has NOTHING on them on this. Washers, TVs, computers, phones, android phones, Boxee. etc.

Okay, that was a tinfoil hat moment but still...:)

Enough rambling.

What does this mean for me? I am not sure. Perhaps I need a fresh start. Perhaps I just need a new daily driver and use my problematic note II as a test bed since that is basically what it has become.

What would that daily driver be? At this point, there is not a whole lot of options. I am still looking into things, perhaps change up my lineup.

I can't help but wonder what features from the S4 will be crammed onto the note III along with extra bloat.

Sorry this was so long, another venting-ish post I guess, not sure what I expected out of this post, other then to get it off my chest :o

Not 100% sure I am dumping samsung, but I am seriously thinking about it.

Battery life and SD card storage hard to give up. If I knew what the note III specs were, it would be a heck of a lot easier.

Just about to hit the adult beverage store & maybe grill out some brats ;)

And you my good sir?
Doing great! Been chillin' today. Doing a little laundry, hanging with my little guy and praying that my interview yesterday turns into the blessing I know it can be for my family. Yeah, I'm working for Best Buy right now but it isn't a great long term step for us. So I had an interview yesterday at 24HR Fitness for a Club Manager position. If I get it, my Wife can quit her job and we can have another kid. Super hopeful.
Anyone not really enticed by the Motorola X phone?
Yes, I am, because I'm a phone geek. I wouldn't mind having a third phone. Currently posting using the G1 I just copped off of Ebay. Gingerbread FTW!

AJ: Get a Moto X. :vroam:

Seriously though, sounds like you've just had some bad luck.

.

Best of luck amigo. Remember... everything has a way of working itself out.

Not to mention, it's your turn to play sugar daddy ;)

Yeah, bad luck, I am sure. I have wondered if I got a lemon Note II or something. Anyway, I do have the last known tar file for the AT&T note II on my SD card and mobile odin.

I am running rootbox 4.1 on the thing right now, flashed last night and its... meh. Its okay, but totally kills the purpose of the device other then a huge honking screen.

The 1.22gb tar file I have is: Kies_Home_I317UCALJ2
REV04

I wonder if there is an updated version.

You may be wondering why I don't just flash that very first nandroid I made right after I rooted the device and installed TWRP. That is because TWRP did NOT make the backup, just gave me an empty container and thus I lost the original firmware right off the bat :(

Wowsers, seems as if even independent devs are only opting for one or two updates before ditching the device and going onto something new.

Seemingly like actual device manufacturers. :(
