Root GAPPS questions?

before i flash latest GAPPS to my MIUI rom:

1. will i get duplicate Maps if i already downloaded maps from the market?

2. does GAPPS include Sprints Voicemail app?
---->or can someone recommend a better VM app to use? (so i can stop the annoying texts)

Some of the gapps includes the VVM but on aosp roms you will still get the text . You can blacklist the text and it will stop it. mapps i dont think is part of gapps so that shoulnt be an issue

I use Youmail and/or WhoAreYou ... both are free from the market. I like them better than the stock vm because you have more options and control over your calls.

As far as the annoying texts, you may still have to blacklist them like mikem0269 said. I don't have that issue since I don't use Google voice.
 
Well If you find your self having to flash VVM then you should just be able to uninstall any unwanted apps... I am really not understanding you question

i guess i didnt think you could uninstall the other apps that come when you load gapps ( i honestly dont know what exactly comes with it..)
since i just want VVM i thought someone might have extracted just that app and had a file i could put on my phone, this so i dont have to load many unwanted apps then uninstall said unwanted apps...

that clarify?
 
Gapps... is Google apps

asop roms do not come with this preloaded ( I belive it is a trade mark issue as asop roms are open projects) so you havew to load them your self and VVM is a google APK
 
If need be, nandroid back to your latest sense rom and backup the VVM app with Titanium Backup. Restore your AOSP rom, and restore the VVM app with Titanium.

I used to do this on the old Hero to get VVM on AOSP roms.

Also you can blacklist the 9016 texts to make them stop. ;)

yes that one should work as well. yeah i tried searching for gapps for miui and it seems that you do not need to flash gapps any more. so yeah all you need is sprint's vvm. also some here use google voice have you looked into that?

+1 to GV

So simple after initial setup of GV
 
ok, update, i rebooted the phone, was running damn slow, so i tossed the GV app

then...

called my phone, google voice picked up, i left a message, got the SMS...

now i want to trash the sprint vvm app and try the GV app alone, how do i uninstall the sprint app...??

I havent gotten rid of system apps yet and not sure how...

i would just use tb and freeze the vvm.

but..just for learning purposes, can you tell me how to get rid of something like that for good...you guys got me hooked on learning stuff like this...

i figure i learned how to put stuff ON i should know how to undo what i did!

I may have asked too soon, now i will ask my "teachers" to "grade my paper" (ie did i screw this up?)...

so..i just bought the pro key for TB last night so hadn't played with it yet...went to "freeze" vvm as per your instructions, couldnt find "freeze" function...but did find "convert to user app", so i did, then on MIUI if you drag icon to trash you have the option to "uninstall" app so i did....so, how did i do?

also saw, "force remove app by recovery" would this have done the same...??

i guess its nice to "remove" rather than "freeze' just for space purposes...

Not sure about the way u did it but in titanium just go to backup and restore and there you can freeze and remove apps. The reason ocn said to freeze it first is because when removing apps some may mess up the system. This way you can just unfreeze it if it causes a problem and if all is working fine in a couple days just remove it
