Root Gb miui

Hmm, having a problem with handcent. It ends up keeping my screen on, even after double checking all the settings and rebooting the phone. As soon as I uninstalled handcent, the screen turns off normally.

Is it possible to get the default sms app to turn on the screen with a popup like handcent does? It's kind of annoying to hear my sms ringtone and just see a black screen.

Are you on the GB or FroYo build? If you're on GB the lockscreen is the AOSP version right now, until the Chinese dump that into the code. Then you can pull down on the right hand text icon and be taken right to whatever sms app (I have used both handcent and the MIUI version) you choose. Very handy; hope this helps.

Yeah, I'm on the GB version. What do you mean by right hand text icon?

Bugs I found:

The Mail application is hogging CPU (about 30%) with my exchange account. It's constant no matter what interval I get mail.

Widget settings are forgotten when first reboot. My volume locker doesn't work; clicking on my clock widget isn't taking me to the clock app, etc. Open the widget settings and close them, and then that widget settings will take effect.

GPS didn't work out of the box for me. I had to flash to a Sense ROM and clear my A-GPS data. The other way (downloading GPS tools and reset/get a-gps directly on MIUI) didn't work for me. CM7 users apparently have to do this as well.

When on a call via speakerphone, the screen off timeout is very short and ignores your set interval. This happens when the screen goes off normally, but when you turn the phone back on, the lock screen is behind the dialer, and the screen timeout for lock screen is very short. This is probably tied in to the lack of lock screen support.

Volume settings don't work. My phone rings at full volume even when set lower. Likewise for notifications, alarms, etc. Sometimes, if I change the volume while something is playing, the setting will stick. Still trying to figure this one out.

That said, GB provides LOTS of little enhancements in the UI that really polish the experience. The stock browser is much approved. Bookmarks is now only 1-click away. Windows/tabs are handled much better. Rather than having each window taking up the entire screen forcing you to scroll around, they are now in a list. Much quicker to switch. The stop/reload icon is now much larger and much easier to tap with the finger.

Pinch-to-zoom has been enhanced so you can scroll the screen WHILE zooming in or out. Previously the scrolling was not possible unless you let go and then scroll.

There's tons more that I can't think of right now.

And MIUI-specific apps are very nice.

Back to my rooted stock again. But will check back on this ROM as it matures some more.

When the MIUI lockscreen is added, there is going to be a right hand icon of text message, and left hand icon for phone. When you touch that icon and pull down, you go right to app.

Aaaawesome, gonna flash the update right meow. Hopefully it fixes the few bugs that are bugging me. Anyone else have an issue where you hit the power button and the 4 buttons at the bottom of the screen light up but the screen doesn't turn on? Hopefully that's fixed in this update.

EDIT: And has anybody had problems with usb transfers on MIUI? I'm transferring the 1.3.25 zip to my phone and it says 10 minutes remaining. Files transfer soooooooooo slow on MIUI, wtf? :(

That was the last problem I had that made me decide to try a different rom. My transfers over the usb cable were like 300 kb. per second. The same Micro SD card will do 10mb. p.s. in a usb card reader.

I'm running Virus Rom Infected right now - but the file transfers are still buggered to slower than a snail. Koni's Elite and VaelPak had decent transfer speeds, if I remember correctly.

Does anyone have any idea as to what MIUI GB 1.3.8 buggered, and any idea how to fix it??

Thanks,

Jack

Ok, now I'm on 1.3.25 and it won't let me use my own ringtones, it's only what's in the rom and my music. Anyone know how to get my own ringtones back? I have them in media/alarms or something, I forget the exact location. They worked fine in every other rom, including MIUI 1.3.18. :(

Also, is there a way to change the clock on the lockscreen slider from 24 hour to 12 hour? It's nice to have the new slider, but it's annoying to see 4:00 up in the notification bar and 16:00 in the slider.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just copy/pasta'd my ringtones from media/alarms/whatevers to MIUI/ringtones. Now they all show up.

Also, midmadn, the USB speed seems to have increased, but it's still nowhere near typical usb 2.0 speeds.

EDIT 2: uuuuuuugh, evidently it's now impossible to have different notification sounds for different apps. -_______________-

I figured this would be an appropriate place for this rather than starting a new thread...

Just downloaded and flashed this over the weekend and love it! First experience with both GB and AOSP. After I re-installed all my apps with Titanium Backup, I noticed that only 4 of them appear in the Google Market under My Apps. The 4 were TB (obviously) and 3 others I purchased. All of the free ones don't show up, however. So now I have a feeling I won't be prompted to update my apps, which I try to do religiously.

Any ideas on how to go about solving this? I could manually re-install all of them from the market, but that's like 50 apps, and I would lose all the data. Should I delete all of them and try to install again via TB? Is this possibly due to going between Sense and AOSP?

For the record, I also have about 9-10 apps I dl'd from the Amazon Appstore and all of them installed perfectly (via TB like the rest) and show up in the store under My Apps, meaning I can check for updates. Ugh, I really wanna stay on this ROM but this might be a deal breaker....

Adam Bomb. Nice! Garbage Pail Kids :)

I had that issue too. can't remember offhand how i resolved it. It could have been that I manually reinstalled them... Is the market interface the new one or the old one? One thing you could try is to go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Market (I forget if that's the path in MIUI, but you get the idea) and clear cache and app data. I might have also used app brain in some manner to fix the issue. I really can't remember. sorry if none of this helps.

Haha never made the connection w/ the name, I'm more clever than I thought! :D

It's the new market interface, or at least the last one I had on a Sense ROM. I'm considering re-downloading everything through the Amazon Appstore, b/c at least it worked and I know I won't have this problem in the future going in between ROM's. Besides, May-mester doesn't begin 'till next week, so it's not like I have anything else to do! Just really peeved about losing my app data...

Edit: was trying your fix as I typed that and it totally worked. Thanks man!
