Root GB OTA has started if you are rooted stock please read this

Yeahha

Usually off topic
So the official GB OTA has started for the bolt. It looks like due to the security issues this OTA is being pushed to all phones running stock firmware. If you are rooted and running either stock Froyo or stock GB from the prior OTA you need to flash the new OTA rom ASAP to avoid issues.

If your phone tries to accept the update automatically and you get stuck on a recovery screen you just need to boot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache to restore your functionality.

You can download the rom here [Rom][Rooted] 2.11.605.5 Full Stock - RootzWiki

Since I know people still running stock may not be familiar with flashing a rom I will provide a quick how to without referring you to the sticky ;)

1. Download the rom and verify the MD5
2. Backup your apps using titanium backup or a similar backup root program.
3. Reboot into recovery
4. Make a backup in recovery
5. Wipe Data (factory reset), wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache (under advanced in CWM) and format system (also under advanced IIRC)
6. Select the option to apply update from SD, select to choose update from SD, navigate to the rom zip and flash it.
7. Reboot
8. Sign into google, use the backup program to restore your apps.

This will prevent you from having issues with your phone trying to accept the OTA. I think you could actually apply the update zip without having to do the factory reset but until someone can confirm (scotty or worm) I don't want to suggest doing this. If you are running any custom rom then you should not need to do this.

if you have rooted with revolutionary, you have the unique option to simply recieve the ota, after replaceing your recovery with the stock one. the revolutionary hboot will not disapear after the update, and it will allow you to easily reroot.

biggest advantage of doing this is that it will not wipe your data or require you to re-setup your phone.

check your firmware in settings/about phone.

if you have 1.70.605.0,then use this recovery:
MR2: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!
md5: a3320797390e3d746a67fda915854b16

if you have 2.11.605.3 then use this recovery:
GB 2.11.605.3: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!
md5: a3f6155023f3c928d0cd229516a441e1

download, rename PG05IMG and flash in hboot,as you would a radio or any other recovery.

*MAKE SURE to double check your MD5 sums to verify the integrity

*MAKE SURE you are on one of those 2 firmwares. if youre on something else,i cannot gaurantee that mixing the recovery with a different firmware is acceptable and will not cause issue.

going from froyo to GB i would not reccomend applying it without a factory data reset. you can try it,but make a backup and be prepaired to reflash it if you have FCs,broken wifi,or other small prollems.

Sorry for the newb question. I rooted using the revolutionary method and am running Synergy Nightly. If I am reading this correctly I should be okay right?

I am afraid I did not catch it in time. I looked over and my phone was at the ! triangle screen on my desk.

I was running the stock ROM that I had rooted with Revolutionary.

So now what do I do? No idea this update was coming today.

Thanks

Ok I cleared the caches and downloaded and renamed PG05IMG to the root. Now Hboot asks to begin recovery when it restarted. Is this what I want to do and then let it do the OTA again?

Sorry I just rooted for the first time last Friday.

What recovery do you have when you go into recovery? If you still have CWM then you don't need to flash a new recovery

It doesn't give me a list. It just says press up to begin recovery, so I did and it then said to hit power to reboot. Seems to have rebooted normally except SetCPU crashes and I don't seem to have any 3G.

:D okay...I guess I was hoping you were on froyo before you just got this update. Try flashing SU in recovery, you will need to remove the PG05IMG.zip from your SD of course. Under your phone's firmware version do you have 2.11.605.3 or 2.11.605.5?

Okay that means you didn't get the OTA for some reason or another, instead of flashing SU flash the rom I linked in the OP that should fix the issues you are having with SU, be sure to follow the directions so you can restore your app data and all

Ugh. After rebooting from recovery last time, it showed a new icon and I believe it factory reset even though I did not choose the option. Restarting again.

Okay that is a PITA download the recovery zip Scotty linked and flash that in hboot, then you should be able to get in recovery

LOL well it immediately started the OTA again after I cancelled the Backup Assistant. I think I will just let it go and then re-root when it's all said and done.

Unless I am just missing something simple.

Oh jeez. It downloaded the OTA and made it 1/4 through the install and stopped. Even though I believe it was reset to factory.

No if you rooted last week then it won't unroot you, you can let it try to install if it works then it won't unroot you, you will just need to flash a recovery and superuser

if im reading this correctly,it looks like you downloaded and installed a stock recovery. you can verify this by powering off, then on into hboot. select recovery with power and the volume rocker. tell him if it goes to clockwork,or to a different screen with a triangle and !.

if you get the ! ,then pull the battery and leave it out for a few minutes. boot the phone normally, set it up and give it an hour or so to settle. if you get pestered for the OTA tell it to install later, and let the phone fully charge.

hopefully at this point the OTA will work.

do not flash clockwork until:
1) you have recieved the OTA
or
2)you want to commit to flashing the custom rom that yeahha reccomended.

OK I am back and synced up after the factory reset. SU is still in the app tray but everything else reset. I am afraid the update will try to download again and fail.

I think I would like to just get back to completely stock so the update can work.

IMO it would be easier for you to just flash clockwork mod recovery and the stock rooted rom, if you really want to just go back to stock unrooted then follow scotty's directions in the howto sticky. If you have stock recovery flashed from scotty's post above then the update should work for you next time you get it and you will just need to flash CWM recovery and SU to remain rooted.
