Root Getting rid of 2.3.9 leak

pyro786

Newbie
I want to get rid of my crappy rooted 2.3.9 leak, and move to OTA Froyo.

I've heard mixed things on how to do this. Some seem to think you have to SBF to 2.1, reactivate, and then upgrade to OTA from there. Others seem to be under the impression that you can upgrade straight from the ancient 2.3.9 leak to a newer Froyo. Is there a definitive answer to this?

Also, if I do SBF back to 2.1, what will remain of my settings/files/apps/etc? I did a nandroid backup on my 2.3.9, but I don't know if this is sufficient to allow me to keep all my shit. I'm still a newb to all this business.

Thanks, and long live the little green man.

just boot into clockwork recovery and install this file
Once done reroot and reinstall bootstrap ....you will be caught up to speed ...or you can flash the full. 340 sbf
Maderstok zip
maderstcok - OTA 2.3.340 update.zip

Full sbf
Full 2.3.340 Official sbf

I would use the first option but its always good to have the sbf handy

This looks great, I'll probably try the first option later tonight. Just one little sticking point:

According to the maderstcok thread,
What that means is that if you have 2.3.15, 2.3.151, or 2.3.320 you're one update.zip away from the OTA 2.3.340

I don't have any of those. I'm running 2.3.9. Is it similar enough that it should be a nonissue?

You should have no problems at all ....many on the same leak have successfully used this zip

MADERSTOCK!
then grab some z4root, reboot, run z4, bootstrap, backup
and get your ROM (or modified stock) ON!

Just did this myself. I tried the SBF method but it didn't update the bootloader so I ended up using the Maderstcok method to get the full version.

thats because you prob used the .340 system only rather than the .340 full sbf

Yup, just used Maderstcok.zip and it worked great. Make sure you follow the directions and wipe data and cache. Then you just need to activate the phone with *228 and boom baby, back to stock. Then install Z4root and Bootstrap, done! Fresh stock system that is ready for the ROM of your choice.
This community is awesome! Thanks devs and friendly Android helpers! You are the best!

just make sure you guys make a backup prior to flashing a rom but after rooting and installing bootstrap that way you will have the backup as your way out for future ota etc

Yes, excellent advice. I knew I forgot to mention something. I made a fresh rooted nandroid as a fall back.

Thanks for making that point. See, this is the awesome I was referring to. :D

You guys are the shit. I love how vibrant and alive this community is! Makes me very pleased to be an android owner.

Noob question though: if I follow the instructions and wipe data and cache and what have you, how do I get my stuff back aside from adding it all manually? Nandroid wouldn't help with this, would it?

A nandroid is for putting your phone back to where you made your backup. My backup pro has a trial version, that's what I use.

Let your apps reinstall through the cloud automatically ,after you sign into your google account and are back in your x go to the market and open it and give it about 5 min and all your apps should be auto reinstalling .....as far as data for the apps you can always back it up with titanium backup before you wipe then restore it after but I highly advice against this ......after I install a rom or wipe data I start my app data off fresh .....you wipe data for a reason and as far as im concerned should not be restoring it after a clean install ....and of course your contacts ...etc will also reinstall through your google account

It may be easiest for you, if you just install maderstock340.zip. It will update everything from Rom to radio. Hold on. I'll get you the thread.

User this file and follow the directions carefully. http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/254605-update-2-3-340-easily.html

yeah that's the file i downloaded today and i'm planning on using it. i don't wanna do any back ups or pretty much carry anything over from the "old" phone...can it be accomplished?

also one side question..... can i go from maderstcok to GB .595 i read thru bunch of posts but still couldn't figure out if it's possible. (i have read the 7 step process w/ 5-6 different downloads etc so i'm familiar w/ it)

1. Doing the maderstock340.zip required a data/ cache wipe, do nothing is carried over.

2. You can not go from maderstock340 to GB. To go to GB you will have to SBF rather than maderstock340. I can't tell you why, but it just doesn't work directly.

Maderstock340 first in order to get crucial files updated ( radio, bootloader, etc, then SBF.) After that, flash the GB files.

SBF files and directions help are found at www.roooler.com FYI.

^^ This = truth

I went from 2.3.9 to maderstcok to GB 588 (which didn't work), to sbf 340 (you have to use the comptlete system one) through all those flashes I lost no apps, data or settings. Only Amazon mp3 had issues.
