Ginger Bread mans is coming!!

Does it just look like they changed some colors around to anyone else but me??

they did do this, along with a bunch of other things that will make the phone faster, and have better battery life, and better image quality in the main UI.

its not just slapping makeup on a chick, it is slapping makeup on her, and giving here some horny goat weed in the process :)

Is that a Droid X in your pocket, or did you just eat a bunch of horny goat weed?

Pssh. A turnstile? Little man, you must feel inadequate most of the time..

I have trouble walking down most hallways and the TSA threatened to make me check it when I was traveling last week.

...what? It's a big phone.

Sure as it's been snowing all winter here in New York, I am going to wait it out this time round until I read a LOT of reviews about gingerbread. Having rooted and violently customized my DX, it's as smooth as a baby now. The 2.2 update process taught me all I needed to know about holding off a little bit until the pros and cons were measured.

Violently customized?

I have a picture of you with a bunch of icons in one hand and a hammer in the other bent over your phone with a look of vicious glee as you swing your hammer...

Sorry, it's just the image that comes to mind.

So, the horrible inevitable question... do we have a timeframe for the release?

Considering that Motorola confirmed the Droid Bionic will be launching with 2.2, I don't think we will be getting it on the X at least until some time after the Bionic launches.

Holy moly. Have you been spying on me? :D

Let's definitely hope that's not the case. The Bionic isn't expected for a pretty good while yet.

+1 I concur sir although I am desperately waiting for it's arrival as I have become rather tired with my current set up and have been playing far too much Red Dead Redemption lately.

The Bionic is launching with 2.2? Even though it's months away from being released?

Way to go Moto, date your product before it even launches. I'm sure the ROM developers will have it up to flash on most (unlocked) devices by then. Maybe Motorola should look into hiring some of these guys to come work for them.

... if they'd even work for Moto that is.

In fairness, I don't know if you've ever worked with a company that does software development, but the R&D cycle for software is pretty long and you need a software platform in order to test a hardware platform. That means they had to develop a 2.2 platform for the phone, so they can go through their testing cycles.

Gingerbread was only announced, what, 30 days ago? How long do you think the Bionic has been in development?

I'd rather see a phone launch with a stable 2.2 platform than a patchwork 2.3 platform. The software development lifecycle is not something that should be rushed. Code, build, test, bug reports, code, build, test, etc. Keeping proper change control over your software, maintaining bug databases and code changes, controlling your software builds... It's all critical for a big business to keep their code tight.

As much as people point at these small developers and say, "...well they can do it," it's not the same thing. These individual developers are not hindered by the need to produce traceable, repeatable results that must be coordinated between dozens of developers and tracked every step of the way for financials, audit trails, time/personnel management, maintaining control of property, etc.
