Ginger Bread mans is coming!!

What are the improvements besides theming? I have some of that in my roms anyway. Just asking.

LMAO!
true. at this point its like getting a microsoft update. hoping it fixes things but giving you the piece of mind that you are "up to date".
and praying it doesnt break anything!

GPU accelerated animations, integrated copy/paste (i.e. no manufacturer-added custom solutions), significant power management changes, better gaming support (e.g. more APIs, better background processing so it doesn't interrupt your games)...

There was some other stuff, it's not really specific to the DX. Gingerbread is a pretty substantial polish to the system.

From the looks of it, Motorola is adding (via a Blur overlay) support for profiles, better calendar support, and better app grouping at a minimum.

I think that most of us knew that Gingerbread would eventually come to the X. The question is when.

GB does bring some nice features (I'm looking forward to copy and paste) but it is not a quantum leap in features or technology.

For me Android will only be fully complete once it integrates full hardware acceleration in the UI like the iPhone does.

ive got to say...im pretty excited about a GingerX....i've been LOVING Liberty 1.0 on my X...but will be excited to see how Ginger performs on the X...and then even MORE excited to see what the faithful devs can do with their ROMS moving forward!

Gingerblur, sir. Gignerblur.

And I'm glad to see it's official. That makes me smile.

I dont wanna update until we're sure we get around the bootloader key.

We almost assuredly will not be getting around the bootloader key.

Why does that mean you won't update? You updated to 2.2 without access to the bootloader. You updated to 2.2.1 without bootloader key. Why not upgrade to 2.3 without the bootloader key?

Yeah I agree with that. Gingerbread update will make the phone better, just like if we had full bootloader access would. So its the next best thing.

I mean, I heard rumors that they closed the loophole that got us around the bootloader key, starting with gingerbread. Perhaps that's wrong, but from what I heard, the exploit won't work, or maybe that was just the z4root exploit. I don't remember.

We never got around the bootloader key, really.

The only thing that has ever been had with the DX was root, and bootstrapping.

It's virtually impossible to make a device un-rootable, as any IT person will tell you - physical access is essentially administrative access. There are just too many variables in an OS to prevent rooting. Bootstrapping, once you have root, is similarly difficult to block - the system needs to be able to execute files during startup, and once you have root, you can replace those files.

I agree that it's always good to wait until a device has been re-rooted, but I don't think you have anything to fear about that.

Yes what you are talking about is rooting the device. P3 said they blocked the exploit that we were using, but give it time (probably a week after leaked to public) and it will be rooted. I agree with you though, I will probably wait until there is root access, but I don't think it will be leaked without root access.

Yeah, that's it. I can wait. :)

I'm not goin to update till others that are rooted have done it and test it out with different roms. Mine 's running great with liberty 1.0 without any glitches. But when they say it works fine and compatible and stable with rooting and roms then you bet I will!

I'm also content with Liberty until not only have they rooted, but have Liberty 2.5 or whatever that's compatible with gingerbread.

This is so funny, because I can still remember clear as day seeing people posting on here that they were going to keep 2.1 until the ROMs had caught up to 2.2 which was about to drop. And I thought they were completely crazy for not wanting to update to 2.2 the second it was available!

But that was before I rooted, and knew what a difference a custom ROM made in the over all quality of this phone. So now I'm one of those guys who is unwilling to take the update until there are ROMs available for it.

It's the circle of life.

Has Verizon/moto actually verified that this update will be coming? Or are the screenshots the only proof we have?

Gingerbread will bring image quality improvements to the 2D UI (better color quality, smoother text) which is the main reason I want it.

Does it just look like they changed some colors around to anyone else but me??

same here. Dithering on this phone drives me nuts....makes all my awesome backgrounds look like complete crap.

that, and better copy/paste coupled with a performance boost, makes me want to take the OTA as soon as it dropps. but i will probably wait to take it and see what everyone says about it. i DO like the look of the new Blur, but dont know if i can stand the bloat.
