The Bionic is launching with 2.2? Even though it's months away from being released?
Way to go Moto, date your product before it even launches.
In fairness, I don't know if you've ever worked with a company that does software development, but the R&D cycle for software is pretty long and you need a software platform in order to test a hardware platform. That means they
had to develop a 2.2 platform for the phone, so they can go through their testing cycles.
Gingerbread was only announced, what, 30 days ago? How long do you think the Bionic has been in development?
I'd rather see a phone launch with a stable 2.2 platform than a patchwork 2.3 platform. The software development lifecycle is not something that should be rushed. Code, build, test, bug reports, code, build, test, etc. Keeping proper change control over your software, maintaining bug databases and code changes, controlling your software builds... It's all critical for a big business to keep their code tight.
As much as people point at these small developers and say, "...well
they can do it," it's not the same thing. These individual developers are not hindered by the need to produce traceable, repeatable results that must be coordinated between dozens of developers and tracked every step of the way for financials, audit trails, time/personnel management, maintaining control of property, etc.
