Root Ginger Break,Superuser, now what?

went back to the Terminal Emulator, entered the code and it reads:
mtd: read error at 0x000a000 (out of memory)
what does that mean?

when I download the IHOrecovery.img file to the sdcard, am I supposed to do anything with it or am I just supposed to rename the file to vrecovery.img?

Ok, so I got the code on the Terminal Emulator to finally go through! About how long does the backup and restore process take? Right now I got a black screen with a black top hat on top of an orange circular arrow.

Ok that means you used the wrong button as the selection button. If you have a CWM recovery the selection button is the camera key. Hit the button you used to get it back to menu screen. When it's backing up properly it will be showing you what it's doing .

"1. You will actually need two recovery's if you have OS version 2.2.1,Xionia_cwma_12518.4,which is good to have on the sd card because it has an option in the advanced section that will fix a recovery loop, which can be found here Xionia_CWMA_12518.4_VM_Recovery.zip . And what ever CWMod recovery you decide to flash to the phone(with the new IHO-CM7 gingerbread ROM's I like asopCWMod version which can be found here aospCWMod-VM670-20110531.img"

Does this mean I should have used the Xionia and NOT the IHO recovery file?

So I hit the home key and it took me back to the recovery menu
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
install zip from sdcard
backup and restore
mounts and storage
advanced

Can I get out of this by hitting the home key or do I have to work from this menu?

It means that Xionia has a tool to fix your current problem. It doesn't automatically mean you should have used one over the other, or made a bad choice.

No the IHO recovery is fine. I personally like the new BobZohme modified CWMod recovery.
Wait till after you get the ROM installed then play around with recovery's.
The Xionia recovery is kept on the sd card as a "just in case". You can have as many recovery's you want on the sd card, but can only have one installed. I've renamed the xionia to xrecovery.img and the aosp recovery to arecoveryimg, and the BobZohme to brecovery.img
This makes it easy for me to remember when I want to change one using the terminal emulator.

So is it safe for me to get out of this recovery menu and try again?

Your ok. Just scroll down to the backup and restore option then select backup. It will do it's thing. Then back to install zip from sd card.

SORRY! Install zip from sd card. Then read the rest of my linked post as long as you have the gapps for the gingerbread ROM you chose.

So I went to backup and restore, then backup. It did its thing and backup complete. Clicked on install zip from sdcard, now do I click on choose zip from sdcard? or apply /sdcard/update.zip? Just double checking.

because I followed a different guide and not the "do not factory reset your..." guide, I only have the xioniarerecovery.img on the sdcard right now.

Choose zip. You can scroll up to get to the bottom quicker because scrolling thru the sd card loops.

Choose a zip to apply. I am looking for the xioniarerecovery.img right? I dont see it. Would it be under backups/ or download/ maybe?

Ok. Go to reboot system now.
Then download and install the BobZohme modified recovery found here https://github.com/inferiorhumanorgans/android_device_lge_thunderc/wiki/Binary
look just under the list of V ROM'S. IN BLUE IHO- Recovery-That-Works-With-New-Screens. This is the best all around recovery. Then download the ROM and gapps from the sites listed. Make sure the recovery is unzipped and the ROM and gapps stay zipped.
Rename the recovery to recovery.img so it will not connflict with the IHOrecovery that you renamed vrecovery.img
Disregard this if they both say VM670NH_ recovery.img

What ROM did you choose? What gapps did you get? The reason for the BobZohme recovery is if you got the original IHO recovery it sometimes doesn't work properly.
