Root Ginger Villain 1.6

G'day all :)
Only having the following problem with gingervillain so posting in here ad opposed to starting a new thread.

2G or 3G network connection: At home I use 2G as 3G is really poor there, at work I use 3G as signal is good and I can browse t'internet.

As a result of this I use a switcher to specify which to connect to, all has been grand until I flashed gingervillain last week. Now when I am going to/coming from work and switching between 2G/3G it is a torture :( It usually takes a few reboots and about half an hour of time trying to get onto the required band.

e.g. on 3G at work, go home, switch to 2G ..... phone will either find the feintest of a 3G signal or none at all ..... until 20 or 30mins later and at least a dozen network searches and a few reboots. (I use the '2G only' option in CM settings but phone turns this off sometimes and finds a feint 3G signal)

More or less the opposite happens when arriving at work and going 2G > 3G.

Any ideas? Loving gingervillain but I need a smooth-ish transition when changing locations

Right, I have a bit of a sanity check question.... am i the only using GV that finds that you have to re-enter the log-ins for FB and Twitter every time you have re-boot and also that certain options you may have enabled/disabled have reverted? It's a tad annoying... even more so if i'm the only one though

Which version of GV are you running? I had some similar problems on 1.4/1.5 but since 1.6 it has been fine

I have an irritating bug since GV 1.3:

If I switch on WiFi and then switch it on, my phone doesn't connect to my 3G network. I can uncheck it, and recheck it, but nothing happens. Rebooting fixes the problem, or if I go in flight mode and then Go back to the normal mode, 3g works again. I tried different SIM cards, same problem. If I get 3g working and switch to WiFi, and then turn it of without turning the screen off, the 3g connection works.

When it doesn't work, I've looked at the APN settings and they are fine. i was going to ask this at XDA, but you must have 10 posts before you can posts in these threads.

Any help is appreciated.

Just wiped my old Leedroid ROM and tried Gingervillain (1.6) for the first time. Very impressed so far, it's pretty quick, seems stable so far, and tbh, I haven't found anything wrong with it yet. Running LP on top of it...everything's smooth :)

Been running this rom for 5 days now. Issues I've had all seem to be gone now.
Navigon - I was trying to put it on from a backup - didn't work. Had to re download from the Android Marketplace. Went straight on and worked fine.
Wifi - initially slow to connect to my home network - typically the icon stayed white for a minute before going green and working. This issue seems to have resolved itself too.
No F/C's other than the Navigon backup (which is now sorted)
Everything working fine.

Have to say I'm impressed with this rom. If I decide to stay with it long term I think I may have to send a few beer tokens to the dev.

If you think for a moment about the effort that goes into making a ROM, or indeed a well-performing kernel, and what the user gets from it, a couple of beers is really quite cheap. If you think it's easy, you might be this guy.

So yeah, if you are using someone's ROM as your phone's main OS day in, day out, a bit of reward is a nice idea. :)

(In case my "thanks" doesn't make it clear, this isn't a complaint to togger, but a suggestion for anyone who is using a ROM and has never thought of donating. And I do not have the time for ROM development, so have no financial interest in this myself - I'm just amazed at what you can get for nothing, and think it's worth recognising what some devs are giving us).

The gv thread over at xda can be a bit annoying. Lots of first time Rom flashers jumped to gv just to have 2.3 and unfortunately for them they have no experience or logical approach to resolving issues so they flood the thread with basic issues over and over.

We need to get them over here so we can help them in silence ;)

actually dan, its not just the GV thread thats like that...it seems more an more like that on ALOT of XDA threads...hence why I creep bout these boards so much and take any IMPORTANT XDA news from here...

anyways, im still in two minds whether to install this...cos I KNOW its superficial but I like the cam app from the sense ROMS, I didnt like the CM cam when I had GV 1.0..

also I dunno, I wasn't too impressed with the stock browser with it...and I LOVE the stock browser with stock roms..

also the whole tethering/disk drive thing bugged me on how if you wanted tethering you had to go through a menu. It didn't bring an automatic list up like stock ROM's

Completely agree about the topics in XDA - its a mess...

I have GV, and I don't use the stock browser. Opera Mobile 11 is far superior both in terms of spead, features, UI, scroll/zoom smoothness.

I love the stock browser. Not as pretty as HTC one with the blue progress, but its better for switching windows etc.

Dan this issue isnt isolated its occurring all over the place on xda. Problem is nobody help the 1st timers cos of that I rarely post my issues on there. This forum is great everybody chips in to help tahts how it oughta be! :)

I ont really go in other threads so hard for me to see.

I try to help as much as I can, but it does get tedious.

Lol I have to admit you have a patience of a saint! Most people would get fed up of repeating themselves all the time!

I use Opera mini 6...didnt much like mobile....love the stock browser just for the simpleness it is...flash support too..

The scrolling and zooming is much better on the Opera Mobile 11 (it was just released).

I dont have a problem with mine. I used to like the opera mini beta (5?) on Blackberry, but when full version was released, it was chunkier and uglier.

The only reason for Opera is mini for me, dont see the point in mobile as it doesnt compress.

I just dont like the interface. Its clunky to me.

yea see this is why I love mini 6, the compression is just great...I can do without the flash when either im low data amount left or just wanna quickly see something :D

EDIT: Well I gave 11 a test and its just not that fast in comparison to the stock browser...the flash seems a lil hit an miss too...some adverts etc dont show still..

it might still get some tweaks so will keep an eye on it..

Does anyone know where does the feature "folders on homescreen" come from in GV (Add to Home screen - Folders)?
Is it part of the Launcher, Gingerbread, or something else that the developer has added to the ROM?
