In short, there should be an improvement in battery life, more internal storage available after moving apps to SD card, some UI changes, and in general more stable software on the phone. Probably, also opening the way to access apps/services that are only available in Gingerbread.

My update will be via Vodafone, but they were pretty quick last time (ignoring all that aggro with their 360 services they tried to push on people!). When 2.2 arrived it was a clean (brand free) installation and worked without problem.

Hi everyone. We have more news about our build of Gingerbread for Desire. Our testing has gone well so we will begin rolling out the update by the end of July! Thank you again for your support!

Will this stop my phone overheating when I use copilot satnav
Maybe. My Desire is on Android v2.3.4 (custom ROM) and it gets warm (but not hot) when I use Copilot.
It is best to ensure that the phone is not prolonged under direct sunlight.

My mates sensation looks fantastic. Hope the desire looks like it after update. I guess it is the new sence that makes it look that way though

don't forget by the time the networks get there hands on it and they do there bit to it and test it i think end of September maybe November before its available

Not sure how this will work on my Desire. I'm with Virgin Mobile in the UK. I assume that it won't automatically update and that I will be able to update manually if I decide I want to? I understand that the battery life will be better with Gingerbread which would be great but that something would have to be sacrificed from the current setup. Do we have any information as to what that would be yet? I see talk of Sense being taken away but what does that mean in real terms? Thanks for any help.

Got my update to 2.3.3 GB on 3 last week - must have been lucky, no issues, no detrimental effect on phone or battery. Like the new lay out of apps. all in all pretty successful for me. Seems as responsive, and touch wood, no crashes (yet) or other failings.

I doubt that it will. Getting the new sense on Desires right now through rooting and custom ROMs requires putting a fairly large amount of data on the SD card in some cases.

The Incredible S had a gingerbread update a month or so back, but it didn't get a new version of Sense, so I very much doubt we'll see it.

So gingerbread will be the final update for the HTC Desire, the daddy of all HTC smartphones and still going strong despite the competition.

I did hear a while back that HTC were going to formally discontinue it so I reckon I may just keep hold of mine regardless of what phone I get next. It's a modern classic!
