oh incase there HASN'T been a post or mention....CNET today said that the Desire will have the 2.3 rollout at the end of the month....whether we believe that or not is another matter lol
NO NO NO....NOTHING can compare with the Nokia 3210...even saying its the modern day version...no....
the old Nokia 3210 (you have to give it, its FULL title, thats how grand it is) is THAT awesome it retains its epic'ness over everything that will EVER come out...even phones that haven't even been thought of yet that will be released 10 years from now.....the Nokia 3120 has already out *epic'd* them

I think I got froyo from o2 sometime in September last year.
I do hope they get rid of the stupid voice input thing on the numeric keypad.

With the forthcoming update will it be as easy as when you update an app from the market or do you need to backup your data just in case it goes wrongAlso do you retain all your downloaded apps and wallpaper?

Regular backup is always a good idea. You never know when something may go wrong.
However, I think the update will be a simple matter of accepting and letting it install on the phone without affecting the installed apps or data. The widgets and homescreen icons might change though.

I love voice to text and use it all the time! Its my preferred method of texting when driving and it can get amazingly accurate. You can adjust the speed of how it picks up your voice and you can change it to "learn" how you talk in settings. Just go in and fiddle with it. Sometimes I have to talk like a robot but its so with it over texting.

lol but if its a genuine comment then...The poster did say that he uses voice to text, when driving...which means hes completely free to still drive but will just talk to his phone rather than dangerously type things while driving.

doubtful if say its wired to a bluetooth controller *in* the car itself and is voice activated...
(is that possible?) hahah
but yea I would say the poster KNOWS that and is most likely activating it when not driving at say a standstill then driving when talking fine..
ok I'll feed. Your an idiot for making that comment. It saves me from tying out a response when driving. Dont know how to make it any clearer.

now...voice to text helps with texting...can it also say work with the browser? cos would of been even more funnier if you had done your reply with voice to text....you know, just rubbing more salt in kinda

How is that any different to pressing a button on the radio / Sat-nav or using the indicator?
Talking on handsfree is legal and sometimes vital - this is no different.
Footnote: For me it has never worked properly, so I just don't bother using it at all, but I saw this comment and had to reply

The language change only affects Voice instruction, no other apps are affected.
I have my phone on a window cradle and I feel a lot happier using my phone with voice commands. There's no way I would ever type, so being able to tap one button and say "send text to [person] I am on my way" is a great, or "navigate to [place]", etc. What's really needed is the option to turn on a constant voice command app so that you simply say "Android, navigate to [place]", where Android is the word that starts the app running.
This should be a toggle app because obviously it will use battery if it's on all the time.
To those that argue it's still illegal use of a phone, I think it's a grey area. There is a huge difference between typing a text while driving and speaking a text with your eyes on the road. Of course you have to push a button, but your car has plenty of controls, not all of which can be used without taking your eyes of the road briefly.

Both quotes from .gov.uk websites; clearly the message is do not use a phone while driving but the primary offence is actually holding the phone while using it. You may still get pulled over by the Police when using hands free systems if they believe you are not in full control of the vehicle.
I hate seeing drivers holding a phone to the ear while driving, it is inexcusable and not something I've ever done, but a hands free set up does give you safer options to use a phone, but obviously you are still taking a risk.

I use an app called Vlingo when I'm in the car. You activate it by saying "Hey Vlingo" and issue your command. It's taken me about 4 months to get the hang of it but it really is "natural" now for me to tell my phone what I want it to do. It's about 75% accurate (3 out of 4 attempts) but it's not a problem.
Works well in the car and at home if the telly isn't to loud. Forget it outside in the street (Don't like using it there, feel a tad self concious lol )
Anyway, we digress, 2.3 for my Desire......... This side of Xmas?
