HTC's twitter page keeps saying "we're still planning to roll out the update at the end of this month" to people asking where the update is. They haven't posted that since 29th July though.

Update: It seems that HTC has already started to roll out Gingerbread for Desire. Someone put the picture on twitter.

Not the worst suggestion.
I was only aware of LeeDroid 2.x ROMs with Froyo. Loving this ROM, so far.
I hate to tell you this, but it is just gone midnight in Taiwan, so it is now August at HTC HQ. Ho hum......

Thats not a Desire.
The gap between the buttons is wrong. Must be a different htc handset.
Me either. I am fed up with their customers support. I understand that they should sell their new phones that are around. But Desire is only 14 months old device and there are plenty of users that still use it.
I think that my next phone will be Google Nexus 3 or iPhone 5. At least you know that you will get all the updates on time.

I don't see why people are getting so bent up outta shape over this. HTC said they would *AIM* to roll out by the end of the month...doesn't actually mean they 100% will, besides most companys are often a little out with predictions.
Besides, while it might technically be monday at the HTC office in Thailand etc, I would say, if they planned a release a midnight release at the end of July they would most likely wait until their american counterparts were actually at midnight..and considering here in the UK its still a few hours, then america still has MANY more hours to go...
so how bout cool your jets a little with the "I will NEVER trust HTC again"...as thats a little dramatic lol

Actually it if i remember it was HTC Europe that said the phrase, they would *AIM* to roll out by the end of the month... not HTC USA?.
So me saying i will not trust them if they fail to release the 2.3 update before midnight was correct and not said by someone that is panicking or at least jumping the gun as it were.

Seriously guys, drop the dramatic "I will never trust you again" acts.
First off: They don't owe us anything. Don't go playing the customer card here, they don't have to update the phones. Every update we had so far was a gift from HTC to us.
Secondly, we don't pay anything for the updates either. Again, it is a gift from HTC.
And what's so mind-boggling about GB anyway? In my opinion it isn't as spectacular as the FroYo update, where we got app2sd (which was really needed), 720p video recording and some other neat tweaks.

I'm looking forward to it for it's battery/power management improvements. Other devices have reported around a 15% improvement in battery life. Theres lots of other admittedly small improvements, but its things like updating the phone that keeps it at least near the sharp end for thee duration of your contract. Its a selling point really to upgrade it, it keeps the customer coming back.
You are right to a certain extent about not being owed the update. You didn't get Windows 7 on your Vista laptop for free. But you do get service packs and other updates. Updates up to the hardware limitations of a handset should be part of a company's ongoing service to the customer.

Come on guys/gals/whoever lets not have an issue over a petty thing like a delayed update cause arguments. The forum is awesome and I'd hate to see it have immature comments like the HTC Facebook page has. <--- Unliked by me now.
From my experience, from a user point of view, GB has improved in security and battery life. Yes, some ROMs have also saved space internally. All good things and excellent developers who don't ask for anything but a donation (which is completely voluntary). How awesome is open-source! However, I'm still going to try the update, whenever it comes, just to see how it performs.
On the note of the update, does anyone know, technically speaking, if the RUU could wipe the Desire back to 2.2 and then root again? I may not update right away if that is the case.

Hmmm, it appears I have had posts deleted. Oh well.
But anyway, the update is on the HTC developer site, with a million and one disclaimers that it's for dev use, not public consumption, HTC take no reponisibility for loss/leakage of personal info etc. Not looking like an official OTA update will happen.
