What phone did you guys have before the S4?
Droid DNA/Nightmare. Went through a handful, and glad I finally jumped ship on it.

I mainly agree, although I would say it would have made the choice a lot harder, not that I would have gone with the HTC.
What might have pushed it the HTC's direction is that I don't usually buy products that are as popular as the S4. I feel sort of uncomfortable having such a common phone.

Is she used to Swype virtual keyboard by now? Swype seems to be better on the S4 than it was on my D3. Then again, this phone has a lot more horsepower and therefore is a lot more responsive than Swype was on my D3.The wife likes physical keyboards, so we were sort of in the same boat.

Maybe a couple days of "training" and she'll be a wiz at Swyping. But if she doesn't mind using the virtual keyboard, that's fine. Also, the voice dictation when texting is pretty decent.I can't get her to swipe! She pecks at the keyboard.
But, she's not complaining about the lack of a physical keyboard. I think the larger screen size helps.
I narrowed it down to the S4, S4 Active, and HTC One. I'm genuinely glad I decided on the S4. Understand though that the poll results are likely to be somewhat invalid, as many people are reluctant to admit they made a bad decision.

I am totally the opposite on this. Having been with the Bionic (which still has a soft spot in my heart despite the whole not working thing) for quite some time, it is exciting to have a phone for which other manufacturers make accessories. So many options in terms of docks, covers, etc. which just didn't exist when I had a less popular phone. (I am also of the belief that VZW pushes android updates to its popular phones faster than its less popular phones. At least, it seemed that way with the Bionic. Although, as marine one points out, that could be a moto issue rather than a VZW one.)
Honestly, I think you dodged the bullet on "hyper-popular" the day you chose an Android over an iPhone. )
