I mainly agree, although I would say it would have made the choice a lot harder, not that I would have gone with the HTC.

What might have pushed it the HTC's direction is that I don't usually buy products that are as popular as the S4. I feel sort of uncomfortable having such a common phone.

I'll add on to this, I also wanted to get the HTC One, but there were too many things I disliked about it. I was going to choose from the s4, One, and Sony Xperia Z. I had originally written off the s4, as I wanted something different since I had all the previous galaxy S phones, but there too many things I disliked about the One and too many questions about the Xperia Z, so I went with the one phone I knew would be an upgrade

Absolutely love my S4, best phone I've ever had. Does all what I want, light comfortable, reflects me. I had the Desire HD before I came over to the S4.

I was looking at the One, due to previously having the DesireHD, never considered Sony and the S4, S4 swung it for me in terms of the screen and battery. Plus I am a fan of Samsungs products, so their service to me in the past swung it.

Yes, very pleased with the Galaxy S4.

My only regret is I would have much preferred the the other Galaxy S4 as that supports UHS-1 transfer speeds where as the snapdragon version doesn't.

I considered the HTC One, but the only advantages the HTC One had for me was boom speakers, optical stabilization and a camera which was better in low light conditions.

Whereas the list of reasons for me to get the Galaxy S4 was allot longer..... :D

The wife likes physical keyboards, so we were sort of in the same boat.
Is she used to Swype virtual keyboard by now? Swype seems to be better on the S4 than it was on my D3. Then again, this phone has a lot more horsepower and therefore is a lot more responsive than Swype was on my D3.

I can't get her to swipe! She pecks at the keyboard.

But, she's not complaining about the lack of a physical keyboard. I think the larger screen size helps.

I am so happy I got the Galaxy S4 I came from the S2 and that was a great phone. I never had any problems with it. My first phone was the HTC Desire and was not happy with it at all so I still support Samsung and as of right now I don't even mind TouchWiz

very pleased with the s4. great battery life, great screen, great radios, fast. came from the galaxy nexus and a bunch of other android phones before that.

the upcoming releases on verizon do not capture my interest. no sd card expansion, lack of exchangeable battery and locked bootloaders on those phones make me very comfortable in my choice of the s4. those are features i will not compromise.

i'm aware that my unwillingness to compromise on my wants may result in me staying with the s4 for a while to come. i've never owned any of my android phones for over 18 months or so, but i can see myself staying with the s4 for at least that long. has everything that i need and addresses all the concerns i had with previous android phones. especially the battery life, can't mention that enough. :)

I just got a pair of Sprint S4s for my wife and myself on Friday (8/9). We came over from Virgin Mobile. She had an LG Optimus Elite, I had the EVO V 4G (really an EVO 3D for all intents and purposes). The BOGO offer on the S4 was too good to pass up. Plus, we had our phones in hand less than 24 hours after we placed the order online even though Sprint said it'd take 2-5 days.

While we will miss having to pay only $35 per phone a month, Sprint's new $150 monthly isn't that bad compared to VZW or AT&T. The service so far in the Austin and San Antonio area has been good.

My EVO was running an unofficial CM 10.1 based ROM, but I think I'm going to keep my S4 stock for a while. The S4 does so much more than the EVO could. Even if it's just freaking out people when I use Google Wallet. I'm digging it.

But back to the actual topic.... yeah, I'm very happy with it. :)

Maybe a couple days of "training" and she'll be a wiz at Swyping. But if she doesn't mind using the virtual keyboard, that's fine. Also, the voice dictation when texting is pretty decent.

I narrowed it down to the S4, S4 Active, and HTC One. I'm genuinely glad I decided on the S4. Understand though that the poll results are likely to be somewhat invalid, as many people are reluctant to admit they made a bad decision.

I was an iPhone user for 5 years and then I got the htc one. After I saw my cousins' s4 in use (versus online reviews and in the store), I knew I had to get the s4. I've only had it 1 day but I actually like touchwiz better than sense. I am loving the better camera and bigger screen too. I noticed a lot of color distortion with the ones' camera and the pictures were too grainy for my tastes.

So you're comparing buying the S4 to buying an expensive German car? :D

I think the other thing skewing the results is the relatively poor selection of options. I could have upgraded for several months before the S4 and HTC One came out, but there was nothing worth being stuck with for the next two years.

Then there's also those of us who are first experiencing Jelly Bean. I first experienced it on my Nexus 7, but that OS makes users very happy!

I'm really liking the S4. I upgraded from a Moto Bionic and had an original Droid before that. Moto seems to be so slow with the updates. The ICS update to the Bionic took forever to arrive. Ideally that phone should have rolled out with it already installed.

That soured me on Moto, along with the fact that I never felt that either of the moto devices lived up to their hype. They worked but just not all that well and certainly not as well as advertised or promised. It would be easy to go back and forth and argue whether it's the device or the network but in the end when I'm out somewhere and have the device in my hand and am trying to use it for something important and it fails to deliver, it just doesn't matter who is at fault. I ended up rooting both Moto devices, not so much because I'm a big techie guy but to just get them to perform at a somewhat acceptable level.

The Samsung S4 simply works better. It works as advertised. I'm very happy with it and am still enjoying it.

Galaxy Nexus to S3 to HTC crap for about 3 days then exchange for S4. I love it. Its amazing - little laggy without custom rom but its still the best phone I have had hands down. Kinda wish I waited for the Active - but I did just learn of a company that nano coats for waterproofing. Win win.

What might have pushed it the HTC's direction is that I don't usually buy products that are as popular as the S4. I feel sort of uncomfortable having such a common phone.

I am totally the opposite on this. Having been with the Bionic (which still has a soft spot in my heart despite the whole not working thing) for quite some time, it is exciting to have a phone for which other manufacturers make accessories. So many options in terms of docks, covers, etc. which just didn't exist when I had a less popular phone. (I am also of the belief that VZW pushes android updates to its popular phones faster than its less popular phones. At least, it seemed that way with the Bionic. Although, as marine one points out, that could be a moto issue rather than a VZW one.)

But, honestly, I had a problem with the Bionic that many people in the Bionic community here in the forums had, and VZW just dicked me around on it (try a factory reset, try a replacement Bionic ...) when the forums here had figured out it was something that ICS would solve. (Something which I confirmed when I just gave up and flashed the ICS upgrade myself.) VZW wouldn't so much as acknowledge the problem (er... one of your local towers is out... let me do a "trouble" ticket) and even though I knew other folks had reported it as well, there just weren't enough of us clamoring for the solution. With the S4 being a flagship device and a very popular phone, I like to think that if there's a similar problem, the sheer number of people complaining about it would force a faster solution.

So, yeah, the fact that the S4 is common was a big factor in my decisionmaking.

I love it! The only thing I'm waiting for is the devs to unlock the ME7 bootloader so that I can get rid of some bloat. Other than that, I love most of the features this phone has. I think multi window is probably my favorite

Coming from a Galaxy Nexus for 2 years.

I never had a problem getting cases for my Droid 2 Global, except cases that would work with the Motorola Droid 2 Global car dock. That car dock was far better than anything offered for the S4. Although I will say few cases worked with that dock, even though it had an adapter plate to deal with case/no case.

If you walk into a Fred Meyer or Fry's store, then yes, you're going to have better luck getting accessories. But not at a Verizon store or Amazon.

But I think you might be missing my point. Back in my younger days I would have never considered buying a pair of Air Jordans. I don't tend to buy things that are hyper-popular. Having done so makes me uncomfortable for some reason. I'd rather make good choices than popular choices, but seemingly the S4 is both.

Honestly, I think you dodged the bullet on "hyper-popular" the day you chose an Android over an iPhone.

(It surprises the hell out of me whenever I see that sales figures on a Samsung Galaxy phone are ahead of those for an iPhone, as iPhone cornered the market on trendiness for so damn long.)

That was a bullet I not only actively dodged, but I was also wearing a vest. :D

Seriously, my first smartphone was a Palm Centro, because I wanted built in IR. My second an Android, because the Apple implementation of bluetooth wouldn't work with the IR keyfob which substituted for built in IR.

My problem with both Moto phones has been the speed after release with which Verizon begins to drop them like a hot rock. It is probably all timing and the fact that the two motos I've owned were highly advertised as significant milestone devices, but both were quickly dated almost as soon as they were released. To be fair, I bought both at release day +1, but even so, it seemed that very quickly they were both yesterday's phones. This was particularly true of the Bionic and was especially frustrating after several months of pre-release hype release delays.

Really enjoying my ATT S4. Previously, I was using the LG Nitro HD which I was pretty satisfied with. However, I was eligible for an update so I started looking around. I really wanted the Nokia Lumia 1020 for the camera, but I couldn't get over a few of the limitations of the phone, namely no external card support and no app for Uverse (how dumb - their flagship WP doesn't support their premiere TV service). Then I happened across the S4 for half the price of the Lumia and I was sold. Amazed at the speed, capability and battery life. My wife has an S3, so we're having fun with the NFC tricks.
